1 Hour Box Build – Reddit challenge
1 Hour Box Build – Reddit challenge
I built this box for the 1 hour box build challenge on the woodworking subreddit. A bit of warning, this box is rough to say the least. With only an hour, I wasn’t able to flush up the joints and sand it like I normally would.
You can read more about it here:
I made the box using white oak. The dimensions are as follows:
Length: 6 1/2 inches
Width: 4 inches
Height: 3 1/2 inches (including thickness of the top)
Thickness of wood: 1/2 inch.
It took me like a week to finish my first box. I only used hand tools.
I guess I don’t get it. I hate to be a negative nancy but why not spend the extra 5 min sanding, or screw the clock and make an actual nice box in 1hr 15 min.
I love the joinery on this. Simple and quick. I’m sure that if time would have allowed, you could have cleaned those up and make them look great.
To Brian Schroeder: I wasn’t able to reply directly to your comment, but there was a challenge on reddit to try and build the box in under an hour. I know I had 8 minutes left before I put the finish on, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t run into any finishing issues. I will be making a new video soon on creating a box and will do better on the construction 🙂
3 minutes on the belt sander would have trued up a lot of your edges. Skipping the rabbit and going for a miter would have saved you enough time to improve things as well. Decent little box, but could be better.
I’d be ashamed to admit I built that box
For a simple and time restrictive build this is actually really good. I’d like to see more as these are usually the best and most entertaining projects.
