Excellent tips, Shawn! I knew most of them, but you added more knowledge to a couple. I especially liked the one about pointing. It was much more detailed than what I’ve heard before about taking flexibility out of your wrist. Very interesting!

Great tips Shaun. I’m curious, what is your preference of product for removing pitch from your plane bottom or blade?

  6. David Neale-Lorello on September 23, 2022 at 12:39 am

So, "sharpen the blade" is kind of like "turn your computer off and on again" it sounds like. šŸ˜œšŸ˜‚šŸ‘šŸ»
    Seriously, great tips — Thanks!

Great tips! Now I know why some of my edge planing doesn’t turn out flat. Improper technique with my fingers providing too much side to side leverage.

I love when your so passionate with hand tools … Love this video

  11. Derek Smith on September 23, 2022 at 12:44 am

Feeling the blade to train my fingers. Wow, brilliant! Once that skill is developed I can see how much of a timer saver that would be. Thank you!

Hi Shaun. Thank you for a great video.
Can I ask please: how tight is the cap iron on your low angle jack plane? I often struggle to get this part right. Thanks cheers Alan

Fantastic insights, and wonderful explanation as well. Always a pleasure to see someone who has actually been a teacher, explaining things with solid paradigms. This is what truly makes you stand out, and why I anyways love watching your videos. Thank you

have not seen you in some time. I thought you had dropped out of YouTube. You are an awesome teacher and am glad I have found you again. You deserve a far larger subscriber base.
    You are the best.

I was always taught growing up to only use the little finger and ring finger when using a handsaw and a plane. "Let the tool do the work". When you use all four fingers, you take control away from the tool.
