2 of 3 – BLOCK PLANE SHARPENING: Belt Sander and the Ultimate Sharpening Jig
In this video I finish rough grinding the block plane blade using the VerySuperCool Tools jig on the belt sander before going on to the diamond stones for final edge work.
what are you using in the bottle for lubricant? what stones do I need if I decided to get some? I have a 1000/6000 combo water stone, do i need any others or is it just if I’m regrinding a badly abused edge?
Allan – What is the grit you are using on the sanding belt?
Do you prefer this old bosch sander or 9404? What are the differences?
great work!!!
Hi Dave, That was an 80 grit aluminum oxide belt. It was not new but had enough life to dress the damage and poor bevel out of the tool. When I first realized how the jig could be used like this I was really excited. I will show doing the same thing on my Makita 9820 with another rough tool. The jig just has so much reach.
Do you prefer a handheld sander to a bench sander for this purpose, or is it just a matter of what you have available?
