Thank you Jay, your videos are always very useful.
This was super helpful, thank you!
Great video, very helpful tips on how to use. Thank you.
I dont agree on the first tip, especially when jointing or hollowing or bowing out wood with a smoothing plane. There are different techniques in order to flatten the side of a board
Excellent tips!!
Very well thought out video. Thank you for the tips.
How to maintain the wood handles and/or restore a old "dry" handles
Great tips for people just starting out! Well done!
Great explanation Jay you’re one of my favorite youtuber’s!
Don’t know how but I just noticed your drawer pulls. Cool, but go Pens!
How do you know when your wood piece is actually flat and level? Do you draw a line and just plane down to it?
Thank you!!
perfect explanation, thank you bro
I hate the Redwings as I am and have been an AVS fan my whole life, BUT from one hockey guy to another I love your drawer handles.!! I am curious how you made so many of them!?
Ps, I would love too see an old Stanley cup final with Detroit and CO for old times sake!
Great video and I appreciate your delivery!
Great. Thanks.
Thanks Jay! Great information.
Thank you! I needed that bit of info. That will definitely help my understanding and get some hand planning experience.
Solid valuable content…
I have this exact planer but I cannot figure out how to put it together. It’s was a hand me down and came in bits… please help 🙏🏼
Nice video really helpfull
How can I round off a edge using a hand wood planer?🙂
Jay really good 6 tip especially no. 6.
I did my practice on 2×4 the same way when I got my first play great suggestion. Also tip 7 take a 2×2 and make a dimensional square stick all 4 sides the same dimension to scribe line till you get it learned! Tip 8 have a bright light source to check squareness and flatness.
Good job Jay!

Do you think he knows who are the Red Wings? 🤔🤔🤔
I like your POW sticker. What is the biggest cons and pros on a hand planer vs electric besides a batter/cord? Thanks a lot.
Thank you Jay! You succinctly, yet thoroughly, informed me how to begin using this new hand planer!!
Thanks so much for this…Great insights.
Thanks Jay. Your method for explaining stuff is so simple to understand. I appreciate the effort you’re putting in!
Jay Bates!! You the man. I needed the down hill direction explanation. Never understood it until watching your video. Awesome
my first time using a bench plane, awesome video, Thanks for the tips! do you have a video on your carpenters vise? i’d like to install one on my work bench.
Nice! I’m looking to get wood shavings for BBQ fire tinder. Never really done wood working, so these tips are big help. Thanks for sharing this!
Good video thanks.
The last #5 is SO important and so true.
great video thanks Jay
Helpful, never used one before and realizing how much it helps uilding things (since most wood is not square). Will use this going forward (just wish I did it before my project, but it’s already finished, haha but I have shelves to add which this will come in handy.
such a great teacher
Thank you for the skewed tip !!! It’s not as simple as it looks – somethings just take experience 🙂

at tip my dad gave me, when putting down your plane you should raise the blade, to lay the plane on its side to help protect the blade
Can you make a video demonstrating how to properly adjust the blade to the hand planer?
You forgot one big tip/must do which would have saved my knuckles from a wrap with a rule, from the tradesmen as an apprentice That is never put the plan down on its face (unless the blade has been retracted), it will damage the blade. A plane should always be placed on its side.
Its one of the best tips or advice I’ve heard, it’s clear and well demonstrated, and I have one question or need advice on planing a long wood, I can’t just do it right, it always has bumps and hills on the middle could you please help me out.
Excellent tips. Thanks very much.
