I like the workmate idea. Ive done somthing like that but now im going to make a fold down jig for it somthing that folds down flat and opens to to a platform for either my table saw and or radial arm saw.

I disagree. Three that Le saw is keyed to the blade, not the maitre slots.

No your not. Reason is 1 is the framing squar true, 2 is the blade parallel to the miter slots 3 is the miter sloppy in the slot? 4 did flipping it backwards set it twice as far out? Compound the inaccuracies.
Nothings perfect. Come on its wood.
Its always going to be off by a minute or so. Your framing square only good to its size its only a line segment Stratch that out 4 miles this way 9 miles that way you’ll start to see the imperfections.
Its close enough for good but its not perfect. You act as if measurements don’t break down into smaller amounts but they do. Its acceptable to what your doing. Thats the best you can do.

this is the best tips and tricks video I’ve seen so far! so useful and actually fast and accessible. Don’t have to spend a whole day and a bunch of money making different fancy jigs and such. Thanks!

One of the main things I love about my Hitachi is it has a 35 inch fence extension but the best part is you can flip the fence over and it already has that ledge built into it. For a contractor saw this thing has everything I need. I can even fit up to 7/8 dado stack on the arbor

I turn my miter gage upside down and push it against the Fence , which should be square to the blade. Fast and accurate. Ps made my living on a table saw for 35 year’s.

  15. TwoSense on February 14, 2022 at 10:43 pm

Why do you store your table saw blades like that? Is there a removable cover?

  16. emmanuel carretero on February 14, 2022 at 10:44 pm

    Who disliked this tho? 🤦‍♂️

  17. Chris Yi on February 14, 2022 at 10:46 pm

Oh, and to follow on to the 45 degree trick – you can memorize other pairs of numbers to get other angles. For example 2 and a hair under 3.5 will get you awfully close to 30 and 60, if you don’t need dead accurate precision. 3 and 15/32 gives you 29.97 degrees. 3.5 gives you 29.74.

Good Lord, man. I am GOBSMACKED at the simple elegant brilliant of the outfeed. My whole shop might look different if I’d seen this video sooner, maybe not built a whole table around it. Other tips are great too. Great stuff as always!

it horrifies me to see people not using riving knife and putting their hands past the blade

  24. Brian Dwyer on February 14, 2022 at 10:53 pm

You made me laugh when you said that the work mates are strong. The two I have are built using the thinest material going. They flex just looking at them.
But I will be making that out table T top, what a great simple idea

  25. Prakhar vijay on February 14, 2022 at 10:57 pm

For the board that was rough on the side…why screw in the plywood? Why not just pull the fence close and put the wood against the straight fence?…Beginner here

Just bought my first table saw. Thank you for the tips!!!

  27. Time for Wakey Wakey on February 14, 2022 at 10:59 pm

i have a dewalt table saw. i have the riving knife still atattched. just recently ive noticed once the wood i push through the blade gets to a certain point, i find myself pushing harder and harder as if its catching on something. i feel like if i slip ile cause massive blood shed 😉 which obvioulsy i dont want. i do move the table saw in and out the shed alot and sometimes ive caught the corners. my question is, do you think ive hit the riving knife and caused it to be out to one side of the blade more than the other and also should the riving knife be inline with the blade?

i was thinking of putting the fence on the opposite side to see if i get this jamming sensation. its cold wet windy and dark these nights so dont fancy doing it. Thanks from Gloucestershire UK

    Very useful tips 🙏👍

  29. sleepingtiger on February 14, 2022 at 11:01 pm

Uh… The screw into the plywood may scratch your table saw, but what would be very scary is if it hits the blade!!

  30. 7y4e9d2 on February 14, 2022 at 11:02 pm

I like the quick slot jig idea.

  31. Bernard Douthit on February 14, 2022 at 11:02 pm

Carl – this might be the most helpful 7-minute video I’ve seen. I just started using a table saw a few weeks ago and I’ve been trying to find a way to make rip cuts when boards aren’t straight on either side. Your screw-down idea is brilliant. Thanks for making this video. I’ve also subscribed. I really like how you explain everything in a low key, modest way.

  32. Kelly Kelley on February 14, 2022 at 11:02 pm

Thanks, Colin. Like the 45’ carpenters square hack. I have had a Workmate for almost 50 years and still use it.

  49. gary hollenbaugh on February 14, 2022 at 11:20 pm

The outfeed table idea was timely for me too. I purchased a simple B&D stand to use for that purpose and to lay a larger board on top to use as a work area. Many thanks for the great ideas and sharing with us.
