I will have to admit many years ago before ever stepping foot inside a Harbor Freight store, I thought this must be the place that sells high quality items. After driving past this one store hundreds of times. I finally went inside to take a look around. That’s my bubble burst, I have never seen so much low quality stuff in one place.
They should change their name from Harbor Freight Tools to Harbor Freight "Toys"! . I use to have Tonka Toys and Erector Sets back when I was a kid that were better made than this stuff.

I recommend being very careful with generator purchases. You want something that has a good sine wave and maintains it under load. A former Generac distributor in Washington State did testing of generators on behalf of Costco. All the ones tested that were made in Mexico at the time did poorly. The ones I have seen at Costco are good. Generac, Briggs and Stratton, Onan, Honda, Kohler are brands I would stick with for home because of all the electronics in a house that could be damaged over time by a cheap generator. Many inverter generators are good if they produce a pure sine wave.

  9. Ryan G on February 6, 2023 at 4:54 am

    2 cheapest is a understatement I feel like you’re a hardcore backyard

  10. Reece Griffith on February 6, 2023 at 4:54 am

I am a precision CNC guy… I buy harbor freight as long as my safety doesn’t depend on the tool and its not a measurement tool. Anything that I use for measurements is Mitutoyo, Brown&Sharpe Interapid, Starrett or sometimes, Fowler. You learn the hard way where the investments must be made, and where corners can be cut.

  11. Hank Jones on February 6, 2023 at 4:56 am

The only good thing about harbor freight is most likely if we go to war with China their military equipment will be junk too.

  12. Michael Hord on February 6, 2023 at 4:58 am

My son learned how to be a mechanic by working with a diesel mechanic that worked on big rigs. I had to buy him an insane amount of tools to get a job as a mechanic with the county . He told me that there is no such thing as "impact" sockets. They just paint them black and charge twice as much.

  13. Gary Hasseberg on February 6, 2023 at 5:01 am

Scotty you sure are windy like a three day fart, but MAN DO I ENJOY AND LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, you mentioned or showed a predator generator that harbor freight sells, I believe that it was a 4000 generator is it any good and could you run your house on it in case all of your power was knocked out, harbor freight said that I would need like a 9500 inverter generator for my house to run like central air or heat, freezer’s, ice box, water heater, and lights well you get the picture, in other words everything, the whole house, I can’t believe the run time on half of a load it’s unbelievable and none of the others are even close in that respect, but do you happen to know which brand is a really good one or the best one to use for your house like that

Harbor freight – Bauer tools and Hercules are not bad, obviously tools I use often like drills I will use DeWalt Makita Milwaukee but something I need like a chainsaw I bought a Bauer chainsaw with a battery a third of the cost and it still working great I’m using it once a month

  17. Swede McGuire on February 6, 2023 at 5:06 am

This is prattle. I respect Scotty Kilmer, but this segment here is not providing any genuine insight, it’s just wind. When you want to buy a good quality tool, talk to a tradesman you know and trust, get their guidance on what features to look for and why. For example…. Scotty says his ‘vacuum pump’ has lasted him for ‘years and years’. Well I do HVAC/R work (certified journeyman for decades), and certainly a vacuum pump will ‘run’ for years and years, but it won’t draw a useful vacuum for anywhere near that length of time…. it mechanically wears inside and it’s internal clearances/bearings and blades/vanes will all wear. Then the pump will draw a poor vacuum, you’ll charge the system with ‘freon’ (refrigerant) but it’ll still have too much air in it… it won’t have been effectively evacuated as the first crucial step, and the system won’t function well. This same skepticism needs to be brought to bear for many professional or high end tools… know the characteristics and limitations that the tool you’re wanting to purchase needs to meet or exceed. And that requires research and working insight rather than lazy feel-good guesswork.

I don’t get the hate towards Chinese made stuff – that’s how we’re able to afford and enjoy the lifestyle we have and get stuff for affordable prices… One thing to note is that with Sears (Craftsman tools) out of business (yeah, I know, they’re technically still sold at Lowe’s)– Harbor Freight with their lifetime warranty on their hand tools became my substitute. Craftsman were also made in China towards the end of their run, so it’s no different in my eyes. I’ve had to replace 2 handtools from Sears/Craftsman and 1 from HF in about 25 years of use.

I appreciate your honest opinions about tools, I’ve been working on and maintaining my own vehicles since the early 80’s

    No one gonna mention 20% off 200$ is not 180$ it’s 160$ 😂😂

  21. Hayden Denard on February 6, 2023 at 5:09 am

Twist drill not "drill bits " don’t talk about tools if you don’t know the correct name

  22. Dr. Cryptox on February 6, 2023 at 5:10 am

Dewalt sawzall is only 100 bucks. It’s not SUPER more expensive, but I always tell ;people, if you need a cheap tool for a SINGLE or a COUPLE jobs, harbor freight usually has you covered, if you are going to use these tools a LOT, get betterr

  23. Henry Kim on February 6, 2023 at 5:12 am

Harbor Freight makes good jacks, jack stands, tarps, covers and impact sockets. That’s how you lure customers into buying their other junky tool such as their tool boxes and other garbage power tools.

  24. USN8591VA on February 6, 2023 at 5:12 am

Im not one to go gaga over Made in China tools,, but Ive had a corded impact driver from HF for 5 years and its an absolute beast!!! its the 7 amp Chicago electric red one!

  25. Richard Wilpers on February 6, 2023 at 5:13 am

What’s hilarious is that this dude literally poopoos everything that’s cool or makes sense for the poor mechanic trying to have fun on the cheap. Basically – every single thing I do according to this guy is wrong. Lmao

  26. Jeff Boulton on February 6, 2023 at 5:15 am

most of their stuff that plugs in is junk but I do buy the right angle grinders and have about 10 of them. it’s great to have one with grinder, cut wheel flap disk or wire brush ready to go without having to change each time I always thought the drill bits were kind of OK for the money but the new Warrior brand is worse than junk.

  27. Chuck Lucas on February 6, 2023 at 5:15 am

Have Bauer tools an have had good luck with them but I don’t use them daily

  28. Marty McFly on February 6, 2023 at 5:16 am

You bought the wrong drill bits. The TiN ones SUCK, like you say. You want to get the Cobalt Steel bits which ate like 3x the price. They are fantastic.

  29. V WorldWide on February 6, 2023 at 5:16 am

    I. Am not sure i would ever buy a floor stand from there or jack anything that you have to lay under. You don’t want the bad review in that one your relatives would be telling it .

ALRIGHT SIR I AM ALWAYS LEARNING SOMETHING WHEN I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS THANK YOU.

  31. S on February 6, 2023 at 5:17 am

I had a debate with a shovel and went with a DeWalt rather than the cheap one.

  32. Muffs 55mercury on February 6, 2023 at 5:18 am

I also bought one of the saws from your first example but I’ve had no problems with it so far. I don’t use it that often, mostly for cutting light metal, 2 x 4s or tree trimming. The subject of drill bits has been a royal pain. I’ve bought so-called good titanium drill bits only for them to get dull (or break!) the very first attempt at drilling thru hard steel such as a car frame. The heavy floor jacks (3 ton or more) I’ve had great luck with them (2 of them in 18 years, so not bad)
When you have old or classic vehicles like I do then you are the car’s mechanic for the most part so it’s important you have good tools to do those jobs.

  33. Kathy Ortiz on February 6, 2023 at 5:19 am

Good advice Scotty! However, allow me to point out that I have purchased four $19 reciprocating saws and found them acceptable. Yes, they lack the quality of good, more expensive tools, and yes, the bearings/bushings wear and die too rapidly, but it has been much easier to absorb the cost of four $19 reciprocating saws than the cost impact of an $80 higher quality tool, particularly since I am a DIYer, and the tools do not support a business. I have the same comments for their $9 TiN drill bits and their $15/$19 oscillating saws. But, this is not to say that you are wrong, but rather to point out that for me, so far, the cheapest Harbor Freight tools—on sale—have been acceptable. Joe

  34. Chris Morgan on February 6, 2023 at 5:20 am

Don’t buy anything from Harbor Freight

  35. Primus on February 6, 2023 at 5:20 am

You should list the entire Harbor Freight website as a “not to buy” video. It’s all Chinese crap. It’s like Pier 1 Imports for dudes.

    Vulcon
    Merlin
    Quantum
    and more …

  42. 100GTAGUY on February 6, 2023 at 5:26 am

Typically when it comes to HF tools I try to stick to stuff that’s basic hand tools I happen to need in a bind, I live like right around the corner from one so that’s handy. I tend to avoid anything electronic for the most part seeing the reviews on lower end stuff makes it hard to bite the bullet on stuff that might actually be pretty decent.

They saved my butt a lot of frustration from using a 14mm bolt, double nutted on the threads as a hex head driver when rebuilding my motorcycle forks. Said screw this it’s flexing too much and went and got the mid range metric hex driver set I needed only one of lol. So far the rest of em have come in handy since I didn’t have anything but an old set of Allen keys.

purchsed the zr15 scan tool to check misfire data on one vehicle and trans data on another. yea waste of $300. didnt do either. 300 is alot to pull codes and get some basic liver data or functional test. better off buying a diffrent product. paid a little more for my autel and it blows this thing out of the water
