6 More Woodworking Projects That Sell – Low Cost High Profit – Make Money Woodworking (Episode 13)

6 More Woodworking Projects That Sell – Low Cost High Profit – Make Money Woodworking (Episode 13)

Grow your woodworking business with “smalls”! Ready for the latest trends??? Let’s break down some more builds and I’ll also show you step-by-step how to make a garden basket using only 1 fence picket!
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for “that one build” that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren’t considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I’ll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let’s change that.

The phrase originated in the 1800s when simple cornmeal versions were sold at church bake sales and snapped up by the congregation before they went cold.

Quick story that I need to share. I wanted to look and see where you got the button plugs so I check in the video description but when I went to look I couldn’t find it. Then I realized I was reading it wrong for some reason everytime I looked at it I kept reading WOODEN BUTT PLUG. I don’t know what is wrong with me but something definitely is. Oolololololololol

I find two things astonishing – 1. That Americans can sell crap for insane prices. 2. That the materials are dirt cheap.
Comparing to Sweden where you could probably get the material for 20 bucks and the finished product could be bought at Ikea or similar stores for 15.

On that tissue box, put a corner cap on the points and one strap in the middle of each corner. Save ya a few more pennies,,,, per box!
NICE BASKET!! Yep, drop a handful of long stem flowers in it and you won’t be able to build them fast enough!

Something I remember from grade school, if you fold a piece of paper in half the long way and draw half a heart then cut it out and unfold you will have a heart with perfectly matched sides. Any size, and it keeps that hand drawn look.

  29. Cathy Myers on March 12, 2023 at 7:45 am

Selling like hotcakes comes from 1800s when churches and fairs selling corn cakes wanted to sell them before they cooled. A book full of these sayings and meanings would be a great read.

  30. Bill Cressy on March 12, 2023 at 7:46 am

Cranked out the garden harvest basket yesterday. Watched the video once. Then once more writing down measurements. If you set some stop blocks and use a batch mode mentality, these baskets will go really quick.

    Thanks for sharing.

Subscribed and liked too, thanks for the video, I love working with wood, usually I make kitchen cutting boards, tables, chairs etc but there’s millions of things I could make like wooden lampshades, shelving, simple bookends, and a few other things which can all sell well 👍

  39. k Hans on March 12, 2023 at 7:55 am

I love these videos! So many people hate to share how to make things because they are afraid it takes away from their profits. Super nice of you to do these and inspire people to not only make their own but to also sell them!

  41. Jim Roberts on March 12, 2023 at 7:56 am

Hey Matthew, I’m trying to source those little metal straps on the tissue box and can’t seem to find anything similar. Do you have sources for them?

  42. Percy Phelps on March 12, 2023 at 8:00 am

Yep if you have cheap fence pickets but 94% of the world do not.

  43. Ozwald Gardner on March 12, 2023 at 8:00 am

Pan Cakes come from early Christianity. They were the unleavened bread from the Bible and eaten during Lent.

They then became a popular food item. They were easy to make and quick to cook. They were often eaten on ranches and farms as a quick way to serve breakfast.

With stage coach stops, they became a food item that was more associated with the west.

With the advent of early diners, they were the main breakfast food sometimes prepared in advance. They became popular with the public for a fast breakfast.

The saying comes from the cooks, as they were selling like hot cakes (or pancakes depending on were you were from.).

Had to quit my equipment operation job due to spine surgery gone wrong, the wife and I decided that I will turn my love for woodworking into my new job. So I’m getting ready for this summer’s craft fairs and I must say. You’re an inspiration to me and many others I’m sure. This is a big gamble but when I wake up I look forward to my day vs the past 20yrs of working. Thanks again

I am so happy that we live in this modern era, so I get to say without shame.. I love this man.

  46. LadyInKY on March 12, 2023 at 8:02 am

The Hot cakes originally referred to were not pancakes. They were a fried cornbread “hoecake” or cornbread pancake shaped bread. Served with butter. Put the butter on while hot and it melts the butter.
Anyway Now that we know what that hot cake is, the origin of the saying makes more sense. In the 1800’s at bake sales, Usually church bake sales, the ladies would cook and sell hot cakes. They sold fast so the congregation members who bought them could either eat them hot or put butter on them so it melted and they could eat it hot.
They are quick to make and hungry churchgoers of the 1800s lined up to get them hot.
Why a fried “cornbread pancake” is called a hoecake is another story. Can you guess why?

  47. Philip Willeford on March 12, 2023 at 8:03 am

I bought the plans for the basket. Your first illustration shows a 50 degree angle, while your video and the remainder within the plans show 40 degree cut. Not an issue, but you must choose an angle! Thanks, good series and videos.
