  6. SomeDudeOnline on July 27, 2023 at 3:11 pm

For purple heart, you can also just use a heat gun. Little tougher to get the purple to be even though.

  7. Neo's Epic Gaming on July 27, 2023 at 3:13 pm

That shirt doesn’t have a pocket …how did you do that

  8. W&I Woodworks on July 27, 2023 at 3:13 pm

For keeping the purple in purple heart we bake the piece in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

You don’t need acetone on the Purple Heart. Some time in the sun or pop it in the oven for a 15min @350 for a deep permanent change.

  11. Joshua Bray on July 27, 2023 at 3:14 pm

Thanks for the acetone/purple heart tip…. I have been waiting about a week between sanding purple heart and applying tung oil. It would be great to cut that down to 20 minutes! I’ll probably start working with purple heart more often now (It’s such a beautiful wood).

  12. Simon r on July 27, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Matt, the business card trick all depends upon what the GSM is of the cardstock/paper thats used to create the business card and lots of companies use different card thickness ( GSM). As always brother πŸ’―% πŸ‘ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§.

  13. Ed Kinsel on July 27, 2023 at 3:16 pm

I had some old plastic magazine files that I put my sheets in, but I have to sort them yet. Hope this helps. Thanks for the tips!

  14. Mark Moran on July 27, 2023 at 3:17 pm

The purple-heart tip is terrific. Will definitely try that.

  15. Mellow Guy on July 27, 2023 at 3:17 pm

I use a lot of rectangular sandpaper sheets, and use an expanding, manila office file folder. About 20 individual pockets. Holds a ton of paper. Costs around 15 bucks.

  16. autoguygl on July 27, 2023 at 3:19 pm

    Great information, thank-you!

  17. Mason Coffey on July 27, 2023 at 3:22 pm

Man you never build anything anymore. Love to see a new build video soon.

  18. Del Sem on July 27, 2023 at 3:24 pm

Smooth edit with the shirt pocket!

  19. David Herrin on July 27, 2023 at 3:24 pm

Construction master also has an iOS version of their awesome construction calculator

  20. Runar Magnussen on July 27, 2023 at 3:26 pm

Cutlist Optimizer is such a life saver! And money saver πŸ˜…

  21. Darlin Brady-Caro on July 27, 2023 at 3:28 pm

I use the tape measure calculator app on my android phone, which defaults to a 16th and can be changed to a 32nd and 64th.

  22. mayo boi on July 27, 2023 at 3:29 pm

For the trick to make the purple wood more purple, is it the heat from the sun or would any uv light work? or is it a combination of both of them?

  23. Payne's Custom Carpentry Co. on July 27, 2023 at 3:33 pm

Great video! Been looking for a cutting board site like that since the shoulder surgery

  24. Jason Peltier on July 27, 2023 at 3:36 pm

That’s a lot of great info in less than 7 minutes. I appreciate all you’ve done for the woodworking community. πŸ™‚

  25. RWWarner on July 27, 2023 at 3:38 pm

I think the reading on the 2 business cards was 1/32 of an inch and 4 would be 1/16 on an inch.

  26. Lee Rolls on July 27, 2023 at 3:40 pm

I hope that my earlier comment didn’t somehow break the community rules since I don’t see it anymore. If it did, sorry, it wasn’t intentional.

  27. bbest8 on July 27, 2023 at 3:41 pm

Amazing wealth of knowledge! Thanks Matt!πŸ‘Š

  28. 8heist on July 27, 2023 at 3:44 pm

Sorry but this was painful to watch. Unfortunately your channel has turned into the YT equivalent of an infomercial.

  29. M.Sweeney7 on July 27, 2023 at 3:44 pm

Instead of business cards use playing cards, they are also good as spacers to be able to get the correct gap in say drawers

  30. Cameron2874 on July 27, 2023 at 3:46 pm

If you come across a good book regarding defining wood species in the world would really appreciate it. Thanks again for all your great videos

  31. Ryan Niemer on July 27, 2023 at 3:46 pm

I’ve made a few pens from purple heart. Once I get it shaped and sanded, I let it spin on the lathe at a slow speed and hold a heat gun to it for a while. Brings back the purple, then I’ll seal it up.

  32. JarsRacing on July 27, 2023 at 3:49 pm

Thank you for the video brother!

  33. McMath Woodworks - Hugh McMath on July 27, 2023 at 3:50 pm

Good tips Matt! I’m definitely going to have to organize my sandpaper that same way – right now it’s all just thrown in the bottom of a big box and I have to sort through it every time haha!

  34. Razma on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Cutlist also has an app, ive used it several times

  35. CodeXCDM on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

You can also cook Purple heart to dial the color in. 350 for half hour makes it a pretty deep purple. Any higher temp or time makes it too dark, IMHO.

  36. Joe Cagle on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Hey buddy. Just finished listening/ watching your first podcast. Great stuff. What chairs were you talking about that you started making off of Jay Bates? I went to look but he’s got a lot. I’d like to start with the ones you did. Didn’t know how else to contact you

  37. Richard Colman on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

The other thing I like about cut list is I put all the parts I need into it, then try different size lumber to see what will get the least waste before I buy my lumber for the project

  38. Bill K. on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Great video Matt. Thanks for sharing it.

  39. FlyingWind on July 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Sandpaper organization tip is my favorite, I need to buy that box

  40. Larry C on July 27, 2023 at 3:52 pm

Did you make that bat above your toolbox? Been wanting to make one.

  41. Monte Glover on July 27, 2023 at 3:52 pm

    Thanks for the tips
The plastic ben also stabilizes the humidity and prevents the paper from warping.
I use a torch to carefully torch, the Purple Heart to gain maximum colour.
    I’ll definitely checkout those calculators

    More thumbnail clickbait from 731

  43. ItsDirtNapTime on July 27, 2023 at 3:56 pm

    .032" is 1/32". It isn’t 1/64".

  44. Kings Fine Woodworking on July 27, 2023 at 3:56 pm

Great video as always. Thanks for the shout out!

  45. Lori on July 27, 2023 at 3:57 pm

VERY helpful information!!! Thanks for sharing!

  46. Benton Landry on July 27, 2023 at 3:58 pm

Vinegar works as well for the purpleheart

  47. True Snuh on July 27, 2023 at 3:58 pm

I use a $3 dish rack from the dollar store to organize my sanding discs. Playing cards for micro adjustments, 75 cents a pack at the dollar store πŸ˜‰

  48. JimmyBass on July 27, 2023 at 4:01 pm

I use that Cutlist Optimizer for when I cut sheets for my subwoofer boxes.

  49. Jeff Taylor on July 27, 2023 at 4:02 pm

I use cultist for more than just plywood. If i need multiple pieces from larger boards, I’ll add those sizes to the stock list, make sure im buying enough or not over buying. Especially when you have a mix of longer amd shorter pieces

  50. Brian Monks on July 27, 2023 at 4:03 pm

I have to check my math, I calculated 92.34% didn’t know!
