For purple heart, you can also just use a heat gun. Little tougher to get the purple to be even though.
That shirt doesn’t have a pocket …how did you do that
For keeping the purple in purple heart we bake the piece in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

You don’t need acetone on the Purple Heart. Some time in the sun or pop it in the oven for a 15min @350 for a deep permanent change.
Thanks for the acetone/purple heart tip…. I have been waiting about a week between sanding purple heart and applying tung oil. It would be great to cut that down to 20 minutes! I’ll probably start working with purple heart more often now (It’s such a beautiful wood).
Matt, the business card trick all depends upon what the GSM is of the cardstock/paper thats used to create the business card and lots of companies use different card thickness ( GSM). As always brother π―% π π¬π§.
I had some old plastic magazine files that I put my sheets in, but I have to sort them yet. Hope this helps. Thanks for the tips!
The purple-heart tip is terrific. Will definitely try that.
I use a lot of rectangular sandpaper sheets, and use an expanding, manila office file folder. About 20 individual pockets. Holds a ton of paper. Costs around 15 bucks.
Great information, thank-you!
Man you never build anything anymore. Love to see a new build video soon.
Smooth edit with the shirt pocket!
Construction master also has an iOS version of their awesome construction calculator
Cutlist Optimizer is such a life saver! And money saver π
I use the tape measure calculator app on my android phone, which defaults to a 16th and can be changed to a 32nd and 64th.
For the trick to make the purple wood more purple, is it the heat from the sun or would any uv light work? or is it a combination of both of them?
Great video! Been looking for a cutting board site like that since the shoulder surgery
That’s a lot of great info in less than 7 minutes. I appreciate all you’ve done for the woodworking community. π
I think the reading on the 2 business cards was 1/32 of an inch and 4 would be 1/16 on an inch.
I hope that my earlier comment didn’t somehow break the community rules since I don’t see it anymore. If it did, sorry, it wasn’t intentional.
Amazing wealth of knowledge! Thanks Matt!π
Sorry but this was painful to watch. Unfortunately your channel has turned into the YT equivalent of an infomercial.
Instead of business cards use playing cards, they are also good as spacers to be able to get the correct gap in say drawers
If you come across a good book regarding defining wood species in the world would really appreciate it. Thanks again for all your great videos
I’ve made a few pens from purple heart. Once I get it shaped and sanded, I let it spin on the lathe at a slow speed and hold a heat gun to it for a while. Brings back the purple, then I’ll seal it up.
Thank you for the video brother!
Good tips Matt! Iβm definitely going to have to organize my sandpaper that same way – right now itβs all just thrown in the bottom of a big box and I have to sort through it every time haha!
Cutlist also has an app, ive used it several times
You can also cook Purple heart to dial the color in. 350 for half hour makes it a pretty deep purple. Any higher temp or time makes it too dark, IMHO.
Hey buddy. Just finished listening/ watching your first podcast. Great stuff. What chairs were you talking about that you started making off of Jay Bates? I went to look but he’s got a lot. I’d like to start with the ones you did. Didn’t know how else to contact you
The other thing I like about cut list is I put all the parts I need into it, then try different size lumber to see what will get the least waste before I buy my lumber for the project
Great video Matt. Thanks for sharing it.
Sandpaper organization tip is my favorite, I need to buy that box
Did you make that bat above your toolbox? Been wanting to make one.
Thanks for the tips
The plastic ben also stabilizes the humidity and prevents the paper from warping.
I use a torch to carefully torch, the Purple Heart to gain maximum colour.
Iβll definitely checkout those calculators
More thumbnail clickbait from 731
.032" is 1/32". It isn’t 1/64".
Great video as always. Thanks for the shout out!
VERY helpful information!!! Thanks for sharing!
Vinegar works as well for the purpleheart
I use a $3 dish rack from the dollar store to organize my sanding discs. Playing cards for micro adjustments, 75 cents a pack at the dollar store π
I use that Cutlist Optimizer for when I cut sheets for my subwoofer boxes.
I use cultist for more than just plywood. If i need multiple pieces from larger boards, I’ll add those sizes to the stock list, make sure im buying enough or not over buying. Especially when you have a mix of longer amd shorter pieces
I have to check my math, I calculated 92.34% didnβt know!
