Nice miter gauge but the Jessem IS nicer( and a bit less expensive).
If harvey sent me a $360 miter gauge for free, I’d do a video on it too. Entirely too expensive for your typical home woodworker. Absolutely gorgeous piece of hardware, and I’m sure it’s probably the absolute best in what it does. It’s just excessively priced for those of us "getting by".
Matt….you do this craft well. Stay grounded and realize not all of your subscribers can afford a beautiful piece like that. 🙂 Thanks for the links to the more affordable miter gauges.
Can this Harvey miter gauge can be use on a jobsite saw?
Question? In your video you have this litlle black box you keep moving. It looks like it measure distance from to miter fence what is that device please. Ty in advance
There is one major design flaw: When the gauge is set to 45 degrees or more, tightening the knob tilts the fence back so that it is not square to the table surface. That means that angle cuts of stock up to 31/4 inches are not square. To correct this design flaw, one must place a shim of .025 to .027 between the gap so that tightening down the knob doesn’t tilt the fence. I own this gauge. I appreciate all its strengths, but this should have been foreseen by the manufactures.
Shinny
That Harvey mitre gauge is nothing more than Expensive, inaccurate no thought given junk. Best part is the packaging . If you want to spend the big $ and get a great mitre gauge then Jess em mitre excell 2 is the ultimate mitre gauge.
I had the Harvey MG-36 miter gauge. I just got rid of it. It is really nice looking however, it left a lot to be desired. I sold it and replaced it with the JessEm and I’m glad I did. JessEm solved all the issues that the overpriced Harvey had and then some. The best thing about it is the JessEm is a lot less
So, I have seen several reviews on the gauge and while it was built well but not much is able to be calibrated. Also, the gauge markers are so far away from the arrow it is hard to near impossible to make a real accurate setting. The Wood Whisperer did an excellent job pointing out some of the faults.
OMG! Can you get to the point? So much wasted time in this video. Edit! Edit! Edit!
It sure is nice and you Definitely weren’t wrong about that Premium price!
That’s a really pretty miter gauge. But it’s really pricey for most woodworkers, more so for hobbyists, it can’t be justified. More power to those who can afford this. There are a lot out there that’s more affordable and reasonably priced.
Been looking for a nice miter and was thinking the Incra 1000 but now I’m torn. The Incra is currently 209 on amazon and the Harvey is currently 259. For 50 bucks the Harvey looks just a little more premium, over engineered. Thank you! Thanks to your channel, and a couple others, I’ve been building out my weekend shop. You’ve saved me from a bunch of pitfalls and helped me discover tools and approaches I would have never come across!
Is this good enough to replace a cross cut sled if it can go out to 36"? Easier to store with the more compact size compared to a cumbersome sled.
I have the Harvey Alpha HW110LC-36P and it came with this miter gauge included, it’s the nicest miter gauge I have ever used it’s like butter and the saw is AMAZING too.
Hand cuffs? :))). I have incra and MG-36, incra is good, does an ok job, I don’t like their fidgety adjustments, have to have the hex wrench. But the Harvey miter gage is in the separate category and they include it with all their table saws and others should too. Harvey support and service are great too.
you cannot make the piece longer but you can cut another piece to the correct size. nobody can cut a piece of timber and it comes out longer. ???
I couldn’t justify that cost either only paid $350 for my miter saw
Matt – Love this video, keep up the great work. I’d be interested in your thoughts on the Harvey vs. the Incra 1000/HD vs the Kreg Precision at Home Depot? I’m looking at all three and there is a significant price difference. The Kreg is not quite as sexy, but I’m a beginner and on a budget. Is there maybe a quality, less expensive gauge only op that I could build a fence for?
I had to laugh when you said you can make the piece longer by dialing that knob. I can sell my wood welder now!
Accerut cuts. Thanks for this video. After watching this one, one by stumpy nubs and a few others I purchase this miter gauge for $270 on Black Friday. Just got it this afternoon. Haven’t been able to use it yet but out of the box I love it.
$369???????????????????????????? ouch!
This is super nice but at that price my Ryobi one is looking pretty freaking nice!! Lol.
Matt, I appreciate you, and I love your work, but I can’t afford to keep up with you. I’ll research the fulton.
Do you have a how to video on the flags?
It’s nice! But not nice enough to pay that price. For my small shop, like most, it simply doesn’t make financial sense. And I am selling about $2000 – $3000 a month in product.
Great..,I’m ruined….I will not be satisfied until I can get one
Matt what a sweet video and thanks for sharing. I have been like ok’ing at the Harvey lineup and I am certainly impressed and you have sold me. Guess what my problem is. I bought a nice used craftsman table saw and the silly mitter tracks have in four places a goofy little hang over spot on the top of the track. Looking at the mitter gauge it looks like the track is a flat bar from end to end. I’m going to need to save up for a new table saw and miter gauge it looks like. Although from what you have shown and what I have seen in the shops it looks like this tool is a beast of a mitter gauge. Please also revisit how well the gauge has held up over time. In fact I think that would be a great series to veer off occasionally to show the honesty of well tools have held up in the work environment. Because I know as time goes on pieces wear and don’t hold as accurate or operate as well as they did when they were brand new. On the Harvey item I’m more worried about that plastic bushing piece I’m 5 years and where do I get a replacement if it is compromised and worn after use and no longer holds right after years of use. Otherwise the tool looks like a beast. Again a loyal fan and love to see how God has blessed you and I love trying to get started as well.
There marketing IS GOOD, you are a part of the team now.
Let’s forget about the bad samples sold
$329 for a mitre gauge, go buy a mitre saw it’s more useful
To much money for a miter gauge for me. I got the Hongdui one for a little over $100. Plenty good for me.
After watching this, I ordered one. Let me tell you, the Harvey customer service is 2nd to none. So are their products. Thanks for introducing me to them.
Matt, is your audience really made up of guys who can afford equipment like this? If so, great. Keep on reviewing this level of equipment. If, however, your key audience is made up of woodworking beginners and intermediate, “regular” guys who need to stretch their dollars, you would serve that audience well to review more reasonably priced tools and accessories.
I love this channel but I would recommend watching the wood WHisperer.he did a video on the top miter gauges and the Harvey did not not do well at all.better choices for cheaper
So you wanted one and they just sent you one? Wouldn’t you get one to use it for actually working on something, not just because its premium? You aren’t broke and can easily afford one but you shop around your subscriber count and hock expensive tools you don’t use. I think you should be a little more honest and not say "I’m not getting paid for this video" because it is deceptive and less than honest.
Take a shot everytime he says extremely. 🤪
I’m needing a new miter gauge and have been looking at the incra and thinking about the Harvey also. They’re both really expensive, just trying to figure out which one would be best for me because that’s a LOT of money for me.
The Wood Whisperer evaluated a slew of miter gauges and put two on his "do not buy list", one being the Harvey (though he likes other Harvey products). Yes, it’s gorgeous, but he found several functional shortcomings. He’s not the only ‘tuber to have panned the product.
There were 3 major things that drove me to buy a Harvey table saw, that miter gauge being one of them. My saw should be here in a couple weeks. Can’t wait.
BTW I have learned so much from your channel! And Ty for that too.
Currently on sale at $256 on Harvey website.
have a sip every time he says "extremely" lol, good fun
What you like is what I hate 🙂 Packaging seems way OTT, so much waste :/. I know it looks and feel premium but I find premium products packaged in a responsible way. Good review thought :).
About a month prior to this video you posted your reasons for buying a SawStop video. You mentioned table to blade alignment briefly and from what you showed in the video it seems you did so with a combination square. Or, maybe you didn’t because these are supposed to come out of the box already parallel and were just talking about it? Cant say cause you didn’t go into it enough. Fast forward to this video…
At around 5:10 you tell us that this gauge is supposed to be calibrated at the factory. Then you show us how to remove the factory calibration of this tool but you didn’t really indicate that you knew it wasn’t correct for any reason other than a plastic and metal square seemingly showing it not at 90 with the blade.
Did you actually set the table to the blade or just mention it in the previous video?
If you did align it did you actually do it with a combination square as it seemed in the previous video?
How did you measure the gauge to determine it was not 90?
If so did you really do that with the metal and plastic square you showed in this video?
Knobs are ribbed for your pleasure…..hahahaha
I’ll pass at that price. That’s ridiculous!
Watch the review from the Wood Whisperer before buying this miter gauge. The video is located here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBQtzhCiMhY .
Looks like a wonderful tool to add to the shop, but that isn’t gonna happen until I sell my truck,or win the lottery! Neither of those is happening any time soon!🤷🏻♂️
Not even close to being priced where I would buy it…so I didn’t watch it.
