In this episode I’m exploring a new (to me) technique for embossing / debossing / engraving onto wood. I show how to make complex patterns, simple patterns, logos and more. I’m really happy with the way this came out, and definitely plan on implementing this technique into some future projects.

Nice project but do you think this guy is sponsored or something!!!

  2. ccgsales on April 12, 2023 at 8:25 am

Have you ever thought of making a ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ of the cnc routed shape, apply and heat the wrap, then ‘press’ the two pieces together to ’emboss’ with cleaner edges? That would seem much quicker than hand pressing and using a credit card to press into the nooks and crannies.

Youtube just stopped recommending your videos to me. The last Video I saw was months ago. Today I just thought "Hmm, does Chris still make videos?" and searched for you on my own. Activating the bell now…

That vinyl will hold up fine. I’ve had my garage cabinet doors wrapped for several years now just like you did it, with no signs of peeling. Still looks better than paint! I’m loving you creativity with the embossed idea!

Was that maple? What finish did you use? I have some leftover maple, an end table would be a great use for it

  21. Ray Campbell on April 12, 2023 at 8:53 am

Cool design. Curious—(just watched your finishing video you released today). Would putting on some kind of clear coat preserve the vinyl coating and save the edges? Also, have you thought about using carbon fiber in any of your designs? And lastly, what inspires you to do your next project? Do you surf Pinterest? Do you wander Abbott Kinney in Venice? Hmm?

I can’t argue with it looking nice.

I wonder if some high density cilicone roller would help with the pressing. Or vacuum sealer

  32. Nick Porter on April 12, 2023 at 9:08 am

This is genius and I love love love the Kieth Haring pattern 😍. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m definitely going to do this with paper cut on my laser. I think you can also get custom patterns from the cricut. A little T-spline edge banding might be the perfect way to protect the laminate. Cheers!

depending on what quality of vinyl you use cast / calendered they are labeled to hold up 5 till 9 years outside on advertising signs. important is to heat the vinyl up especially on uneven surfaces.
sometimes they advertise some types of vinyl specifically for furniture but the ones I bought didn’t feel different than calendered vinyl there may be a difference in the adhesive but I am not sure about that. sometimes it’s hard to tell even the brand they are selling.
as someone that did some vinyl wrapping with thicker materials, the V-Cut still works great! consider to leave it long enough so you can get it on to the back as well.

  37. L C on April 12, 2023 at 9:12 am

This looks great. Do you have plans for this side table? Can’t find them on your website.

Woah, I just noticed you are using a Hitachi router! Just got one myself, and it works so well. Absolutely steal at $100. I just wish it came with a edge guide fence.

  42. NicoleHerrickDIY on April 12, 2023 at 9:13 am

    Beautiful.

  43. Goku on April 12, 2023 at 9:14 am

You can use "Edge Sealer" which will lock the edges of the vinyl down.

  44. Derek Olander on April 12, 2023 at 9:15 am

I like your solution for not allowing a drawer to be accidentally pulled out. As a second option, and maybe even easier, what I’ve done in the past is to use a hinge screwed to the top with the other leg dangling down. Gravity always works in your favor, you simply push the hinge up to pull the drawer out. Also then when you put the drawer back in, the catch mechanism always "resets" itself once the back of the drawer passes by the hinge leg that is hanging down.

  45. Oggybobo on April 12, 2023 at 9:16 am

Chris – I would be ecstatic to own a side table like this, absolute perfection.

  46. DrTurtleBee on April 12, 2023 at 9:19 am

I little cheaper than an x-carve is a cricut or silouette paper cutting machine if all you need is cardstock thickness.

  47. Hellen Smith on April 12, 2023 at 9:22 am

I feel you all pains on the rippers I’ve had good luck with getting dumps from Cardsteve on telegram, he’s one of the few that didn’t block me after I sent him btc

  48. Stephen Zumbach on April 12, 2023 at 9:22 am

So just an idea, but instead of using a CnC for your designs, you could buy a Cricut machine

Conceptually like a CNC, but on a small scale, and designed to work with a drag knives and vinylidene

  49. Larry Miceli on April 12, 2023 at 9:23 am

    And those are called hypocycloids
