AMAZON TOOL HAUL: The Best Gadgets I've found.

AMAZON TOOL HAUL: The Best Gadgets I've found.

Black Friday sales often drive out new and innovative products for the new season and into the future, it is also a time when we can save a bit of money on things … or so I thought, when one item from my purchases of three was lost, I canceled the order and re-ordered about 2 weeks later, only to find that the small item I ordered was $15 cheaper than the Black Friday Sale – buyer beware I remind myself. But there they are, a new version of a clamping device that I often use when assembling or dry fitting projects, a very innovative speed square with some new kinds of features, that was surprisingly accurate, and the jig I will find most useful, a series of round-over templates for using my palm router to round over the corners of tables and similar items and get perfectly matched rounded corners. So check out tool deals from this Amazon Haul!

That is all they are, useless gadgets.

  2. dave PRUITT on August 28, 2023 at 6:42 pm

Just when I recover financially from holidays, you post something neat like this.. 😊

I think I will try to design and print those router templates as needed with a 3D printer.
Having said that it just came to me that I could also design more complex router templates not only for corners
    Thanks for the inspiration!

When using a square as a guide for my circular saw I always it with the “shoulder edge” towards me so that pushing the saw forward keeps it right up to the wood I’m cutting. The way you showed to use it would tend to push it away from the wood?

I love your videos and the content is well-chosen and sells itself. I notice that you make a lot of remarks under your breath. What you’re saying is usually important, but appears as a sort of tossed-off aside as you are forming your next thought. I listen to YouTube through a fairly aggressive audio compressor, so I’m able to hear when videos are quiet–but your content manages to slip past because everything else you say is relatively loud. Test this by having somebody who doesn’t know what you’re saying listen. Chances are that since you know the script and know your own thoughts, you may (?) miss these verbal asides. Cheers and best to you. Again, thank you for excellent content that has gotten zillions of clicks from this user! Listen around 2:40 for an example.

Awesome my friend.. continued success to your channel

  10. Jim Clark on August 28, 2023 at 6:50 pm

On the first corner squares, a nice feature would be a ledge across the top to level the edges. What do the viewers think?

  11. Robert Cornelius on August 28, 2023 at 6:51 pm

Thanks to Biden/Kamala’s inflation I can’t afford to buy anymore tools.

  12. David Dura on August 28, 2023 at 6:51 pm

    GREAT VIDEO…THX

  13. Buck McDaniel on August 28, 2023 at 6:53 pm

I have some of those yellow speed squares. They were inaccurate so I did not use them. Then I saw someone on YT use a piece of sandpaper on a glass to square the sides square. So, don’t throw it away. You can salvage it.

I must have been slow. The first two items are sold out. Thanks for sharing.

  14. cletus robinson on August 28, 2023 at 6:55 pm

Hah! I have the same set of red angles!

  15. Chris Griffith on August 28, 2023 at 6:56 pm

Your speed square is currently "unavailable", however I found no less than 5 other listings for the exact same square, ranging from as little as $19.00 on up to $32.00. These are the EXACT same thing, but using different marketing pictures, and coupled with one additional item, such as a marking pen, or a rafter square, whatever!

  16. billybike57 on August 28, 2023 at 6:57 pm

Evidently you haven’t used your circular saw in a while it was full of cobwebs 😆

  17. KpxUrz5745 on August 28, 2023 at 6:58 pm

I’m not a fan of the radius templates or the folding speed square. I avidly study catalogs of woodworking tools and specialty items, and what I usually find is that not only are most such items far overpriced, but they actually seem superfluous. I usually finish studying the catalog and buy nothing. I really love tools, but so many extra gadgets are not worth the money or the aggravation of using them, plus I already have an overwhelming number of tools.

  18. martino amello on August 28, 2023 at 6:58 pm

I make L brackets from 3/4" cabinet grade plywood and drill 3/8" holes in them and use fence clamps.. Much cheaper and easier to setup..Nice thing about plywood is you can make corner braces any size you like and use any style clamp you want..cheapo spring clamps, etc.. I build cabinets and shelves, etc., every week.. Can’t afford every single overpriced gadget from China and not too crazy about supporting the CCP anyway..

  19. S Jones on August 28, 2023 at 6:58 pm

Liked the square and radius blocks.

  20. John Thompson on August 28, 2023 at 7:02 pm

You should checkout Dennis at Hooked on wood he does excellent totally unbiased revues of a lot of the China tools. And lets you know when a sale is close.

  21. John Jensen on August 28, 2023 at 7:02 pm

I have those red L clamping brackets and I have found that the clamps that come with them are also very nice for attaching an auxiliary fence to your table saw fence using a board that has holes drilled into the top edge to accept the clamps. John Jensen from British Columbia.

You are a staple to YouTube wood working videos. Awesome video eh?

  23. William Readon on August 28, 2023 at 7:06 pm

the 90 degree clamps work good on butt joints but terrible on miter joints

  24. Martin Thurston on August 28, 2023 at 7:08 pm

Just found you. Definite sub. Love the tool review. Bought the square. Thanks for the info. Will be watching

  25. Michael Love on August 28, 2023 at 7:08 pm

Thanks for your useful review. I like the innovation shown by the designers. Isn’t that an innovative way clamps attached to the corner frame on the corner clamps. Good idea.

  26. Greg Wood on August 28, 2023 at 7:09 pm

I can spend hours at your store, it’s just pure a dream come true for woodworkers!
    Thank you!

  27. Christopher Dean on August 28, 2023 at 7:10 pm

I’ve been thinking about getting those corner clamps for a while now, and I think you’ve just sold me on them!

    Great idea 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  31. Acer Juglans on August 28, 2023 at 7:17 pm

Is that a…..cobweb….on your circular saw?? Lol, guess its not a commonly used tool in your repertoire.

  32. The Beagle Beat on August 28, 2023 at 7:17 pm

    Nice one, love the templates.

  33. Mark Macauley on August 28, 2023 at 7:17 pm

Thanks for another great video, Colin. 👍

  34. Jay Haughton on August 28, 2023 at 7:19 pm

I love you man, you make videos that have an oddly rare, almost singular balance of style and substance. Quick and easy and accurate if you need it; also clever, in-depth and robust; for when you want more. Thankyou gaffer.x

  35. Andre Roussel on August 28, 2023 at 7:20 pm

Love your videos, thanks for making them. For your untrustworthy square there is a simple solution. I had bought several cheap aluminium squares from Princess Auto and half of them were off square. All I did is square them on the table saw using my sled and placing a small piece of wood underneath the square that was a bit higher than the lip of the square so I could butt the thick part against my sled. Just a bit of light sanding after to remove the sharp edges and I had some good squares. This would obviously also work with plastic squares. Tip: I use a permanent marker to draw a right angle on the corner of my squares once I have verified they are truly square. This way I know I can trust them.

  36. Gary Coyne on August 28, 2023 at 7:20 pm

Wow, I do not know how you’re using the Jevons squares but I’ve never had ANY issue with them — using inside or outside. They are my favorite squares. I have to admit I was amused that you said you "had to use speed clamps with them." later, with the (always over-priced) Woodpecker squares, you showed how it could be faster with a speed square. Sorry, I’ve followed you for years, and you are usually right on target, but on that one tool, you missed first base. Sorry

  37. Joe Brown on August 28, 2023 at 7:20 pm

That’s a nice Square & corner radius pieces.

  38. Jeff Thomas on August 28, 2023 at 7:20 pm

I have a set of metal router templates, I usually use mine on my router table

  39. Ken Sze on August 28, 2023 at 7:23 pm

    Where are these made?

  40. Bob Sacamano on August 28, 2023 at 7:24 pm

Colin is the Mr Rogers of woodworking YouTubers…so kindly of manner that you barely notice you’re being schooled. No wonder he has so many subs. 😊

  41. Thomas Hendrikx on August 28, 2023 at 7:27 pm

I 3D printed the last thing you showed – I recognized it immediately. Very interesting video!

  42. vashon100 on August 28, 2023 at 7:31 pm

    Triangle "currently unavailable " LOL

  43. Vanesa de Blas Montoya on August 28, 2023 at 7:36 pm

I’m so glad I came across your channel. Thanks for sharing, I have a lot to catch up!

  44. Mark Higgins on August 28, 2023 at 7:36 pm

Thanks heaps – do the lugs get in the way of the router base as I have the same one.

  45. vashon100 on August 28, 2023 at 7:37 pm

    7:51 radii vs radiusessss

  46. Kam Leo on August 28, 2023 at 7:37 pm

Collin, would you have been able to do the same demonstration using a compact or larger size router? Most videos and printed literature that I have seen show a table mounted router and the user holding the template in place while guiding the wood through the operation.

  47. BOBBY on August 28, 2023 at 7:38 pm

Black Friday is a big farse.

  48. old king Crow on August 28, 2023 at 7:38 pm

I noticed my Swanson combo square got accurate once I flipped the lock around to thr opposite side. You have to flip the ruler, unscrew the lock completely, pull it out snd flip it.

I actually like it now, and thr plastic spee dsquares too I love. They’re hard enough that they’ve not yet dented from dropping, but they’re cheap enough anyway to stock multiples, ans they’re dead on, evidenced by multiple perfect cuts on a track saw

Almost nothing hurts quite like doing all these measurements, being confused why they’re off, rhen realizing your square is junk 🤣

  49. Timothy Steadham on August 28, 2023 at 7:39 pm

Why does the corner that you cut out look odd? In the video from my perspective, the left side of it doesn’t look like it meets the edge of the board very well.

  50. 9catlover on August 28, 2023 at 7:39 pm

i got the same triangle. Thanks for this video…really helpful
