Hello my dear friends.
I am happy to present you a new story. Our guest in this story is Mr. Stanley.
Stanley 9-1/2 Block (1872 – 1981). We can call him antique or old or vintage. Anyway…
I really love this block plane and decided to give my best effort.
In this type of work, I keep functionality above aesthetics.
Especially some parts of hand planes should never be thinned.
The thickness of the blade, the geometry of the blade and the throat are very important. I always prefer to sharpen the blade without using any jigs and I always make it razor sharp 🙂
A little part of the adjustable throat was missing when I got it but It doesn’t matter, it can be adjusted manually.
Let’s leave aside the technical points of the restoration. I always decide on the aesthetic approach completely on the way. I am ready to listen to all your thoughts and approaches.
I also have a surprise for you. We worked with a very well known craftsman on this story. I won’t write his name, surprise, but many of you have already guessed 🙂 @Meine Mechaniker
As you know I am a woodworker too and tool maker and also restorator. Deeply in love with fine woodworking. This work was a pleasure for me and wanted to share with you. As a full-time craftsman , I told you the story the way I lived it. So this is not just a restoration video, few days of a craftsman.
I hope you like our story.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe if you like it. i would be glad.
I greet you all sincerely.

Such beautiful work, I just wish I had an ounce of your talent. Take care.
Another excellent restoration. I doubt that original makers ever saw their tools look as magnificent. I absolutely love these small Stanley planes. I have one that was my grandfathers and it is still the best plane of many that I own.

I know that…. You are a great master!!!! Compliments. Good whiskey!
Hi!
I enjoyed this video immensely. I really appreciate your subtile sense of humor, your attention to detail and the artistic way you present your video. Of course I really like the small bits of Argentine Tango music as well 😀 Thanks for sharing.

Hello my love, do not be tired, you always surprise us. Thank you from earth to sky 🥰🥰💐💐❤❤😎😎🌷🌷🌹🌹😍😍👌🏻👌🏻🖤🖤😘😘🇮🇷🇮🇷😊😊
I’ve watched this one twice now and just as amazed the 2nd time around. Actually it was better. I picked up on several things I overlooked the 1st time. Loved the collaboration too with M.M., two of my favorites on YouTube. Thank you for sharing your talent Mr Old Hand. Looking forward to your latest project! Stay busy for all your fans out here 😊🛠️
🦍
Great restoration. Just wondering where you get the multi tool accessories, scotch pad, wire brush, buffing wheel and compound? Have you got a link for them please as they look great quality and perform excellently.
Fantastic workmanship. Glad I found this channel. New subscriber.
Finally a real artist that doesn’t cover up his videos with obnoxious music. Just the natural sounds of his shop.
@Meine Mechaniker ve @by OldHand müthiş olmuş ikinizde çok iyi iş çıkarmışsınız, tebrikler. 👍👌
Another great restoration! I love your Omega pocket watch, very beautiful! I am trying to learn how to work on pocket watches here at home. Very beautiful crystal decanter too, Mr. Stanley would be pleased to share a drink with I would suspect. Cheers.
There’s a story in the video very fun to watch I also like the result Congratulations
Well damn! Great!
Brilliant! Most plane restorations are for show only, and don’t actually get the thing working properly.
Just a couple of minor observations….when flattening the sole, you should ideally have the plane fully assembled and everything tightened down (obviously with the blade withdrawn). The theory is that the casting is malleable and the tensions in it whilst assembled are different compared with when it is dis-assembled. It probably makes no difference for a block plane like this, but can make a substantial difference for a larger plane, such as a number 6 or 7. Secondly, you planed that wood against the grain!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing, and I love the humour, well done 👏
Hace un par de meses me encontré un cepillo antiguo, igual a ese, en un tianguis. Lo compré bien barato, lo restauré y quedó hermoso como el del vídeo. Con ese ya tengo dos cepillos pequeñitos.
Lovely👍
Спасибо большое
Приятно смотреть ваши работы, в
Ютубе в плюсе.

Now that was just plane awesome! You do incredible work. Love your style & the environment you display it in!
Ein Poet des Handwerks. Und er erzählt kurze, originelle Geschichten. Einfach schön, danke!
Bravo. Sua oficina é linda. 👏👏🇧🇷
Another beautiful transformation.
Now that’s what I call special air delivery of a package! 🤗 Peace 💫
that was perfect
Beautiful job. Next time I would try testing it with the grain of the wood though. Although, I could be wrong. Not a severe criticism, just an observation that could make the test more effective.
Stanley block Trophy …
Outstanding !
Well done…and I like your light-hearted approach to the video.
Hi,
Very nice job. What kind of microscope 🔬 did you use to check the blade?
How that tool is called?
Outstanding work! I’m sure, every time you reach for this little block plane, it will be a pleasure to use. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for 2022. 🙂
A tool is a work of art only when the work of art is a tool. beautiful.
Another fabulous restoration. Thank you Meine Mechaniker for your assistance in this project.
If you ever make it to Arizona I have quite a bit of restoration that needs done in my shop. I can keep you busy for a long while.
Nice restore!
You could easily be a curator for a museum, nice work brother. Who makes that steel sharpening block?
Just discovered your videos, I really enjoy watching your workmanship and attention to detail. One question about this video, what is the coffee pot in the video at 14:37:00?
Very nice job
Amazing result, very nice looking tool, works really smooth. Greatings, excellent job!
This is one of the most important and useful tools in any woodworkers toolkit. I used mine for forty years and still have it. The secret is in the angle of the blade. Brilliant for removing arrises on freshly machined timber.
👏👏
Parabéns bela LIMPEZA você fez nessa plaina, mas isso qualquer um faz.
The love used on this…
20:34 “I remeber”
Great job restoring that small hand plane to look like new. It works like a charm as well. Good work.
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Wonderful!!!!!!!A great job,a master piece;congratulation !!!!!!!
Very nice. I would say " Rejuvenated" as some old character has been left in and some polishing to the parts that needed it has brought it back to life and its usefulness. Very enjoyable video. I have watcheda few now, asw a couple of vids a few weeks ago but didnt know it was you. I have subscribed and hit the all ball to see what else you do.
We had to learn all about planes (especially the Stamley planes) in school in 1973, our first woodworking class. I have forgotten most now as I have not used one for many years, but we were taught about them and how to use them properly.
just a bit creepy ???
