Art at Noon: Artist-Researcher-Teacher: Making Art with/in/about Community with Dr. Pamela Lawton
Art at Noon: Artist-Researcher-Teacher: Making Art with/in/about Community with Dr. Pamela Lawton
Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton is the Florence Gaskins Harper Chair in Art Education at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Lawton’s artwork is grounded in social liberation, seeking to illuminate contemporary issues, cultural traditions, and the stories of people impacted by them. She refers to this work as artstories: the process of combining written and visual narratives into artworks representative of a multiplicity of generational voices on issues related to coming of age within a multicultural society. Lawton will discuss her fascination with narrative forms of expression, the artists and family experiences that inspire her, and the ways in which she holistically integrates her art practice into her research and teaching practice with, in, and about communities.
