God has gifted me with many “hands on” skills and it is my calling and purpose to share those skills by teaching others. Whether it is to seek a career in carpentry, become a general contractor or improve one’s DIY skills and knowledge, the motivation behind THA is to help others successfully learn how to work with their hands.
I’m 15 and I’m slowly getting into carpentry. Thanks for the tips and terminology!
i want to build cabins and contribute to rural housing so badly. i can’t wait!
What a good video, thanks bro
Thank You.
I wanted to become an Army officer. Watching your videos, i want to become a Carpenter. From Pakistan (Asia)
I’m speechless at the amount of clarity this video (and your others) have given me. I’ve been interested in woodworking before and have read up on it as well as watched various videos but it has been mostly confusing to me, making me apprehensive about attempting much of what I’ve learned beyond hammering in a piece of trim…until now. There was literally a sequence of, let’s call them "mental domino clicks", where I suddenly understood certain concepts and most things just fell into place. I’m posting on this video but have watched so many others and am just in awe of just how much I didn’t know that I didn’t know. Thank you for the patience and simplicity in explaining and helping me understand. I think I may have a new interest in making this a hobby!!
Great video! Well produced, and good delivery of information. My only quibbles: 13mm is 1/2", not 3/4, and it’s spelled kerf. Ultimately unimportant, as far as this video goes, though! Nice work!
13(33/64) mil is not 3/4 (19)

Thanks so much I’m trying learn basics I appreciate you
Thank you for great videos.
DUDE!!!! Thank you!
Awesome content, superbly presented! Thanks!
Thank you, this was very helpful!
Honing is bringing the cutting edge back to its proper alignment (basically, straight) while sharpening is actually removing material towards toward the edge to thin it (which also hones it if done correctly).
BUT STILL GREAR VIDEO
New to working and very much appreciate your video series. I want to identify skills and knowledge I need to be better. Thanks!
What does veneer mean
Thank you for such an amazing introduction of the basics ❤️ It was very informative thank you so so much 😍 also i watched part 2 too and it was great 👍🏻 hoping u would make a more parts of this please so we’d know exactly everything from A-Z about carpentry and wood work ❤️ thank youu
Thanks man you just helped me find my true passion ! I’m currently in cdl school and graduate in a few weeks, but I’m starting to realize that I’m in the process of building a killer kicker ramp with a friend for when we skateboard. Hate to say it but I’m actually staring to enjoy doing the math behind it since it directly coordinates with what you’re doing. And I am absolutely intrigued and dig’n this carpentry stuff and how it works. Who’d thought I’ve never enjoy math!?! I HATED it but now I’m starting to like it. Thanks again man, I totally forgot I was in cdl school at the moment😂
These are very helpful, I have an exam next month🙏🙏

BEST. TEACHER. EVER.
This video helps me to determine what i’m going to do before i do my project, still learning for woodwork thanks for this sir.
Absolutely brilliant! I have great respect for the art of carpentry. I’ve always nurtured a ‘secret’ desire to learn some carpentry skills and have my very own little workshop, but being a lady sometimes means that people might not take you seriously if you try to step into this very male dominated world of construction. You are a GREAT teacher! Very inspiring! 👏👏👏👏
You are a great teacher.
Thank you brother
I’m a 68yr old retired RN. You won’t find me sitting and knotting. I want to do woodworking! I can’t find local woodworking classes. I just found this and I’m excited about it. Very informative. Thank you, so much!
Thank you 😘❤
Genuine: Is this a high effort comment? – I always had a soft spot with woodworking, even though I was 5 or younger. And so when I was first introduced to wood, yarn, metal, clay and art materials so maybe with a lover of either gender, we can customize our interior from scratch and I would have just enough knowledge for our home to be enough for the both of us.
Anyways, this series is going to be extremely useful for us viewers and those in the future. I have high hopes to those who find woodworking/crafting of any medium – indoors and outdoors – fascinating enough to go on a streak and find out secrets of all sorts on this topic after they become introduced to this wonderful series.
Another lumber defect I’ve noticed that the sides are not peripendicular to the surface, making the lumber from the end grain looks like parallelogram
Great style of comms, no unnecessary music or gimmicks, clear & concise with excellent on-topc information – I always learn and retain a lot from this presenter.
Your awesome brother!!
Marvellous very talented person.
I’ve learned a lot on this one vid.
Honing and sharpening are not the same thing. Still a good video though
Thank you so much for this video! Answered so many questions for me right off the bat. I am a “mama-bird” who’s wanted to learn how to make wild bird houses and feeders. I will be glued to this channel now that I’ve found you! KC, Cumberland MD.
This video was for me ! Thank you Josh ! God bless all you do ! 🙏
Very good video, Thank You!
I learned more in 12 minutes than I have in most of my life
FYI…. All the ads are seriously uncalled for
Wow You are hands on and my hats off to you Much valued YouTube thank you
Great video. Thanks.
One error in an awesome training video. Actually, 13 mm is closer to 1/2” than 3/4”. Normally 3/4” ish Baltic birch is nominally 18 mm.
