Cord to Cordless Jigsaw Conversion from 110V to 18V | RYOBI MJ-21

Cord to Cordless Jigsaw Conversion from 110V to 18V | RYOBI MJ-21

I have 5 electric jigsaws that runs with 110V. It is hard for me for working outside or far away from electric source. I decide to choose one of them and convert it into cordless power tool. “In condition I fail, I still have 4 tools left, but if I succeed I learn something new and have video for you” this is what think before I start the project.

DC motor
Price 4$
The new original 775 high-power DC motor, both front and rear are ball bearings, the rated voltage is DC18V, 17400 rpm (can also be used for 12V or 24V), high-speed and large torque, originally estimated to be used on power tools.
Motor diameter: 42mm
Motor height: 67mm
Shaft diameter: 5 mm (4mm in flat position)
Output shaft length: 14.5 mm
Weight: 350 grams
Rated voltage: DC18V
No-load current: 1.45 A
No-load speed: 17400 RPM
DC12V current: 1.3 A No-load speed: 11300 rpm
DC24V current: 1.68 A No-load speed: 23500 rpm

Battery adapter
I bought this adapter form China price 4$
The adapter is suitable for the Makita lithium battery

Battery Lithium battery & charger
I bought this battery and charger from China price 20$
The battery is similar to 18V Makita battery, but different quality.

I hope you find this video useful and enjoy!
I am happy to receive feedback, suggestions to improve myself.
!!! I’m sorry for the mistake if I did this video !!!
*** I still keep some parts, I want to help the world environment ***

Hey bro, i am a bit ‘angry’ with you. It is obvious that u r very talented, so you should know that these power tools are not only for fancy show-off. The original electric motor had its not cylindrical frame shape with a very good reason. In other tools the motors are also fixed with several screws agains unwanted rotation in the housing. I am quite surprised that you ignored the fact that this tool is for tough jobs and must be assembled accordingly. Keep up in development!

did you fasten the Motor, or is it just press fit? It yould wiggle itself loose and Twist in the housing i suppose.. great project anyway!

IMHO it would be nice to hear you talk and discuss the project struggles, costs. Silent movies went out in the 30s

  28. Joshkun Turk on June 19, 2022 at 9:41 pm

pros: creative, entertaining and educative – cons: it does not make sense for such time consuming and money wasting operation. Not practical in terms of economics of it ( buying the DC motor, and lion batteries and charger!!!! better to buy new cordless equipment). Also technically you will never get same cutting power unless you cutting a newspaper with it.

    Nice idea..
But it lacks deep discharge protection.
So a destruction of the battery is inevitable!

  37. chad Thornburgh on June 19, 2022 at 9:54 pm

being a brushed motor couldn’t you use a 110/120 dc battery pack or bank ?

I’m a Huge fan of your work, I love the way you present your restoration and it means a lot to us when we are in need of such DIY restorations.

My only request is to see you restoring a Table Fan and making it run with 12v Bosch powertool Battery and an 895 DC motor, so that it could serve as an emergency fan in times of power outages who’s is very important for fathers of small babies like me

  41. Victor Lee on June 19, 2022 at 9:58 pm

Experimental, not practical. To make it portable, use a 12V battery + 110V ac inverter.

  42. Trần Vũ on June 19, 2022 at 10:00 pm

you need change original switch to bigger switch or connect it via relay, will enough power from battery to motor

Hello, I’m writing to you from Spain… how can I send you 2 machines, one has a battery problem and the other doesn’t work (220v current), if you can improve them it would be great, if I can I’ll give you my email… thanks

  45. Thrill98 on June 19, 2022 at 10:03 pm

that on/off switch is designed for ac current. using dc power supply the switch life-time reduced
