Cutting Board for Beginners | Woodworking Basics
Cutting Board for Beginners | Woodworking Basics
A step-by-step tutorial and everything you need to know about making a CUTTING BOARD.
Cutting boards are typically a beginner woodworker’s first project, BUT there are a few things you should know before gluing some pieces of wood together. In this video, I document my entire process of making a beautiful, edge grain, walnut cutting board from start to finish.

Thanks for the video, may I ask what blade brand on the table saw did you use?
For beginners of what??
Looks great! Nice job.
That is a beautifull cutting board. My wife would love this thank you.
There are other issues not mentioned regarding choice. I’ve never seen long grain, whether face or long, recommended for cutting boards as a) it can cause splintering b) end grain wicks out moisture. Was the justification for long grain just that it’s quicker or easier? I can understand that but I would really recommend everyone take the extra time to make it end grain, which is just all round safer and more long lived.
People need to leave this guy alone he is using basic tools beginner WOODWORKERS HAVE he is not saying starters have these Or most of them you can always use a hand planer electric hand one or pay to get it planed down also use a table saw with a jig instead of jointer table saw hand planer mitre saw clamps glue that’s basic tools maybe not thicknesser or jointer but you can do without what I’m trying to say is simply you can’t do woodworking without any tools if you expect to make this with a hand saw PVA glue and sandpaper it dosent work like that
do you want your food on mineral oil?
Hi. Is the glue, conditioner and oil used food safe? Thanks. JohnO.
"beginner diy" – $3000 table saw, $2000 thicknesser, $200 palm router, $100 sander. Dude, you’re totally out of touch.
This looks like fun. I wish I had all the toys so I could make a few.
How can this be for beginners? Beginners don’t have a a miter saw, table saw, jointer, planer.
Very good job with the video.
impressive
what kind of dremel bit did you use to soften the edges? kinda wish you went more into that, looked neat
Nice
The real secret is the recording… he’s not adjusting 1 camera… he has 37 strategically placed
Edge grain boards are definitely the way to go. I’ve made a total of 3 end grain boards for myself and the amount of sanding was painful. Plus I like the look of edge grain better. Awesome video. Keep up the great work.
Great video. When you are jointing the slat does it matter what side you joint? Then after you joint the slat what side goes face down on the jointer? Thanks so much
This is very helpful and informative. Thank you 🙏
I tried to cover everything about making cutting boards – let me know if I missed anything below!
Like your style my friend UK 💯
Love the shop setup
nice work! beautiful walnut! too soft of a choice of woods in my opinion to be practical. yes, it is technically a hardwood, just not a very hard wood.
is inch and a quarter a good thickness for a cutting board? I have a lot of spare maple I plan to make a cutting board out of if it is. I have enough wood to make a 9 x 11 3/4 inch cutting board and wanted to know if this was good
I’m a 53 year old beginner woodworker and this looks like a really nice project to try. Just subscribed to your channel.
Would definitely buy one of theee
What CNC machine do you use? I am a beginner and would like to get one but don’t want to spend too much money
Love walnut. I have some that I need to turn into a cutting board.
Where did you find the cookies?
If this is how “beginners” make cutting boards ima tap out now.
Hey bro absolutely love this! Could you give some detail on your CNC setup, it looks like you were using a DeWalt router, how does this work? Sorry for the newbie question.
Loved it!! Thank you cutie!
Damn, that board is way too beautiful to cut on it 😂
What size board did you use.
What beginner has all those tools?
What does a beatiful board such as this sell for?
I can glue, sand and apply oil. I wish to get precut wood with instructions in it to make good cutting board like (kit).
You think beginners have table saw, jointer, planer, cnc machine? …..dream on dude
Looks great but many people just don’t have all those tools
Thank you! And by the way, you have my ideal workshop. Nice.
one of the best videos on making cutting boards, BTW, music is excellent
You should try and make one using basic tools that a BEGINNER would have, so a mostly battery powered tools
I’m in the process of designing/building my shop. What size table saw do you have? HP? I will be a single shop user doing this as a hobby/side hustle to start. Hoping I catch the serious bug and it becomes my semi-retired job. 58yr old carpenter. Deck and porch builder with a wide range of experience in residential construction over the years. Also a very quick learner. I’ve always learned from watching and repeating. Trial and error so to speak. Carpentry does come naturally to me though. I finally have an opportunity to build a shop. 24×24 w room to extend in future if opportune.
Woodworking beginner project = $2000 worth of tools.
Dam bro i just bought a tool kit from home depot i don’t have any idea what any of this all is 😅
Hey, I plan to make this but wanted to make sure the product was actually food safe?
is it ok to accelerate the drying time, from water poping, with heat or a heat gun?

… I just came here cause I wanted to know how to care for the slab of wood that is my cutting board as the sides doesn’t look like it was sanded properly and I wanted to know how to take care of it as it is the first wooden cutting board I ever bought and I can barely remember anything I learned in woodworking class in highschool due to my poor short term memory…. The equipment is reminding me of skating while using the huge industrial table saw as I was too short and needing help from the teacher so that I won’t damage myself on the machinery … I could use the other equipment just not the table saw.
i mean my friend found out about this vid from his woodwork shop class
