You’re an absolute genius, what about a dowling hack? Last week I made a pine bench seat all with dowel joints, turned out beautiful only the dowels on top weren’t all inline.

  14. bosunashley on May 1, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Some ole solutions here. I’m 75 and my grandma taught me the toothpaste trick. Glad it’s still a handy one!

  15. dennis minks on May 1, 2022 at 6:57 pm

I used to not have many clamps. Depending on the size of pieces needing clamps, I cut pvc pipe then cut the ring in a single place parallel to axis. For more holding power, cut the ring wider.

  16. Scott Pankhurst on May 1, 2022 at 6:58 pm

so… someone who has the ability cut wedges doesn’t have clamps?

  17. Paul Bussey on May 1, 2022 at 6:58 pm

I can see me using every one of these hacks at some point, although Iโ€™d probably only use the toothpaste in an absolute emergency! Thanks very much, Iโ€™m now subscribed and looking forward to seeing more from you.

If you don’t have wood filler or sawdust, raid your kids pencil sharpener. Take the sawdust from a pencil sharpener and keep in a small jar for hole filling. Mix with Elmers regular or wood glue, and you have a small amount of wood filler.

I did service calls about 20 years ago for a stair company. Filled a couple holes in some white balusters. I felt guilty and thought for sure the homeowner would smell it.

  25. artlm2002 on May 1, 2022 at 7:07 pm

    Good content, annoying background music.

  26. Short Stories By Jerry on May 1, 2022 at 7:08 pm

I like the drilling straight holes with the two blocks of wood. Thanks. I always get in a hurry and do sloppy work.

  27. Don B on May 1, 2022 at 7:09 pm

In the UK we call joiners "chippys" one of our traditional meals is fish and chips which we buy from a "chippie" and we like lashings of salt and malt vinegar on our fish and chips. Having watched your brilliant tip with the salt and explaining the weirdness of the English language I feel hungry. Not many wood working tips can have that affect on me๐Ÿ˜‚serious note, liked and subscribed you have a great presentation manner.

  42. Scott Stubberud on May 1, 2022 at 7:29 pm

The top of your car door window also works say if out hunting or fishing camping etc. Probably a little finer than bottom of coffee mug. Very similar tho. Eezy peezy

  45. Ernest Horning on May 1, 2022 at 7:32 pm

Iโ€™ve been using the nail in a drill for several years. Iโ€™ve found that most drill chucks have an open cavity in the back which negates the need to cut the head off.
