In this week’s video, I built a modern blanket chest or, what we’re going to be using it for, a toy box. The piece is constructed from solid Red Oak and Poplar but was built using approachable techniques, no table saw required! Hope y’all enjoy this one.

Can I use pine? Or some plywood (that might make it heavy though)!

Great video, and SMART ADVERTISING!!! Perfect little box in the corner , while Not interuppting the video and gaurenteeing it doesn’t get fast forwarded. Very smart

    Great cabinet. Great build.

It’s not a big deal in the slightest, but you can hide half the base- rail pocket holes by orienting them upward. The cabinet itself will hide them.

I like how at 3:53 it looks like you cut the Kregg Accu-Cut but didn’t address how or why it happened LOL.

Skips too many steps for this to be a DIY

The Douper gas supports is too much support…the lid won’t stay shut, just pops back up, any suggestions?

Beautiful! Great lid that stays open imgs.love/HTrunks perfect for my witchy stuff to keep from prying eyes of people that may be offended or freaked out by my practice. My friend got this for me as a surprise for all my stuff and I was thrilled! Love it. Pretty roomy, too!

Is there a drawing or a lumber list with sizes?

  26. szyhaPL on April 13, 2022 at 6:32 pm

Tons of sophisticated tools are needed to diy ๐Ÿ™

  27. Mike Petzold on April 13, 2022 at 6:32 pm

How long will this last with no joinery or screws? Is the glue alone enough for lifetime? I like the easy of the build but want one to last

  31. Richard Cagle on April 13, 2022 at 6:41 pm

@ 3:54 sup with all that blue plastic? Looks like you had two guides put together, but the edge guide on one was further out than the other one. That normal? Like do you cut them to precision on first use or something?

  32. Phil Mims on April 13, 2022 at 6:41 pm

Very nice job… the rabbet joint was a great choice.

Is it possible to make the chest with out the legs? Because I don’t think I have enough wood to make the legs I might substitute red oak for popler wood because mine is a beginner project I also wanted to make it because I was looking on Amazon for blanket boxes and blanket baskets and I couldn’t find anything that I liked so imma make one my self not only do I want to do set design but I also love woodworking And making something of my own because it’s great to have something you made it’s Awesome but but also when you are a woodworking inthusiast keep in mind that your work table won’t always be clean because you are creative and you don’t sit around and watch tv all day that’s boring unless you are a tim burton nightmare before Christmas geek that’s me I am a goth person but I definitely love woodworking Shakespeare theater ๐ŸŽญ and just Theatre goth in general Especially Hamlet that’s hardcore theatre goth but I also love unicorns๐Ÿฆ„ mermaids โ˜ ๏ธpirates and ships in general I live in San Diego so ships are a big thing because we have the maritime museum they also have ships that are so historical they are chalk full of ghosts ๐Ÿ’€

I think the strain choice killed it but overall beautiful build

  45. mark duncan on April 13, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Great project! Quick question. You like the poplar 2x2s because they are square rather rounded at the corners. Then you chamfer and sand the corners. Doesnโ€™t that end up the same? Thanks!

  48. Horror Animations on April 13, 2022 at 6:55 pm

I love woodworking because I love the smell of wood and I love the contact and it’s more relaxing then sewing I tried sewing, it just didn’t work for me because making something according to a pattern was really hard for me and stressful I love the Smell of Wood so much I wear a purfume that smells identical to ceder or pine even though it’s a floral fragrence it smells completely the opposite but I only wear that certain purfume because floral Scents give me head aches but I have never liked them anyway they are just not my jam I like Coco EDP because it makes me feel like a lady also drinking tea makes me feel like a classy woman even though I am 13 years old LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I also like it because it adds a touch of elegance but masculine also because woody fragrances are very masculine and I like to also feel masculine because when you do woodworking you use power tools and you have to be really strong to use those because those things have force but just that contact can take all your worries and cares away it just feels good and I sholding something that you made Is just cool in general it’s a shame that woodworking is too underrated because if you just try it it might turn out to be your favorite hobby and I think that more women should do woodworking also it doesn’t have to be for guys in fact a lot of guys in courage women to do woodworking
