DIY | Table Saw Fence UPGRADE

DIY | Table Saw Fence UPGRADE

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my table saw fence for some time. Some baltic birch ply wood is all you need to make your saw more accurate. Let me know if you have any questions about the build!

Where did you get your counter sink bit at and it’s name?

  2. studiOdara on July 12, 2023 at 2:25 pm

Did you put a new measuring tape on your fence rail too? Or does your sight glass have 3/4" adjustment to calibrate for the thicker fence?

*Just completed a big trim project on my house **MyBest.Tools** Performed very well. Also appreciate how easy it is to move, set up and store with the integrated stand. No more cutting wood on my knees.*

I’m a n00b and I don’t understand why this is an upgrade. Does this improve your cut quality? I’ve been thinking of building a custom outfeed table around my jobsite saw, and I was thinking about a bigger fence. But in this case, it seems like this upgrade will reduce your rip capacity without improving how parallel the fence is to your blade. Can you explain this to me? I feel like I missed something. Thank you!

Digging the orioles hat. I just received a craftsman 113 without a fence so this is great.

  6. PECY92 on July 12, 2023 at 2:31 pm

Great video. Easy and simple. Help me out here. I can never get my cut right on my measurement line. Is this going to help me keep cuts straight cause new fence lines up parallel?

Will this build work on my m18 fuel tablesaw thanks

  8. Dadzor on July 12, 2023 at 2:34 pm

Exactly what I needed to upgrade my table saw fence. Thanks for sharing.

I like the clone thing, that was funny. I am trying to find how to make a fence for the craftsman fence will never lock so I tried to make a metal fence but I have to keep using clamps and it is a pain to keep adjusting. I just don’t see spending 200-300 on a fence when the saw is 30 years old. any ideas on how to make easy adjustable clamps ???

Two questions for you, what table saw do you have? It seems like your fence slides extremely smooth to the sides and that definitely interests me. Second question is why the preference towards black for your out feed and fence? Is it purely looks, or does it help you with seeing gaps or something of the nature?

  11. Rick Friesen on July 12, 2023 at 2:35 pm

What exactly was wrong with the fence face of the Vega? Other than not being tall enough? I’m shopping for a new fence.

  12. Justin Gortman on July 12, 2023 at 2:42 pm

Love the black finish! Looks so sharp! Might need to look into something like this for my Grizzly 🤔

  13. Liam Mcguire on July 12, 2023 at 2:42 pm

Love this video. But i have to ask, what are the pros and cons of this build???? mcguire.liam79@gmail.com

Pimp my fence. It’s a thing… nice one Nick.

  15. Holmberg Handicraft on July 12, 2023 at 2:43 pm

Make sure to adjust the tape on the saw because now you’re auxiliary fence is that much further over. Hope that made sense

  16. Chris Korenkiewicz on July 12, 2023 at 2:44 pm

wow… I too have memory of a… wait what are we talking about?

  17. R M on July 12, 2023 at 2:44 pm

Have question regarding the fence you have on this Craftsman saw. I have same saw bought old one few years back. I am an hobbyist and looking to replace original fence on it. If you don’t mind sharing, which Vega fence model you end up changing with? Since I am hobbyist don’t want to spend on something that doesn’t fit.
    Thank you.

  18. David Hahn on July 12, 2023 at 2:45 pm

Maybe a stupid question but what did you do to adjust for the measuring marks on the rail since you have an extra 3/4" on the blade side of the fence, or do you just adjust by 3/4" on your positioning?

  19. TheDrblu on July 12, 2023 at 2:45 pm

I’ve got a craftsman table saw as well and been wanting to upgrade my fence for a while but my rails are different from its I have like an L bar rail not like a pipe rail any suggestions for something like that?( sorry I don’t know all the proper jargon ) but I hope u understand what I’m saying

  20. T C on July 12, 2023 at 2:46 pm

Would this work on my Bosch 4100 job site saw

  21. Bill williams on July 12, 2023 at 2:46 pm

Just what I was looking for, thanks

  22. Jerry Kelley on July 12, 2023 at 2:46 pm

    I will make this.

  23. Jeremy Specce on July 12, 2023 at 2:46 pm

Every time I see your black cat push stick it makes me happy and sad. Happy because I love it, sad because I had the same idea and didn’t execute it.

  24. Dawna Stephenson on July 12, 2023 at 2:47 pm

HA! I thought you were going to build a fence, but looks like it was a fence cover. you should change the title to the video to Fence cover build!

  25. Hammond Miers on July 12, 2023 at 2:48 pm

I’m sure you can find awesome woodworking plans on Stodoys

  26. Bluegill20 on July 12, 2023 at 2:50 pm

Looks good except how do you know if the front is square to the blade and you have the same exact measurements in the front and back of the blade?? My Ryobi fence is garbage and doesn’t lock square to the blade at all. I have to measure it front and rear then give some taps to the fence to make sure is perfect

  27. Penalty Box Woodshop on July 12, 2023 at 2:50 pm

Table saw fences are expensive so this is a nice option!

  28. Adam Garrett on July 12, 2023 at 2:51 pm

Exactly the info I was looking for, and from an O’s fan. Win win

  29. Bruce A. Ulrich on July 12, 2023 at 2:53 pm

Looks great! Like it was always there, in fact. What is the main purpose of having the shop made fence. I’m not aware of the benefits other than maybe it is sacrificial?

  30. Greg Raycher on July 12, 2023 at 2:53 pm

This is exactly what I need for my job site Rigid Table Saw! The stock fence is sub par and this would make it so much more solid and reliable.

  31. Eureka GA on July 12, 2023 at 2:54 pm

Can you explain what this adds to the function of your table saw please? I’m a newbie, just trying to understand how this upgrades the saw. And what more that can be done with this installed. Thank you!

  32. Richard Roby on July 12, 2023 at 2:56 pm

Impressive outfeed table. Any video or photos?

  33. Clark Kent on July 12, 2023 at 2:57 pm

Hmm need to make one to completely replace a lost one. Any ideas???

  35. JJaE on July 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

Quick question what/where do you get the countersink bit your using to pre drill the holes?

  36. floydfrk69 on July 12, 2023 at 3:02 pm

Thanks for orioles fan. I was surprised to find a woodworker video who likes my same team. Take care.

  37. Lunar Mooner on July 12, 2023 at 3:03 pm

Talks about importance of wearing gloves because the stain hasn’t fully dried. Takes off gloves and dinks fence with bare finger. 😆 Nice video as always! I have my Pop’s old Craftsman contractor table saw with original fence but have thought about upgrading to the current standard ones I see. Are most saws a standard size or does the fence have an adjustment on the bottom?

  38. John Ham on July 12, 2023 at 3:03 pm

    Great videos!!

    Nice

  40. Robert Garcia Jr on July 12, 2023 at 3:06 pm

I also have a Craftman 10" table saw but I have the T-slot for my miter slot. Mt miter gauge is loose. Do you have a video on how to make one. Please let me know. Thanks

  41. John Mckell on July 12, 2023 at 3:07 pm

Well that was simple enough…Thanks for posting

  42. Reynante Acuña on July 12, 2023 at 3:12 pm

Awesome video! This is exactly what I was looking for to upgrade the fence on my cheap Craftsman table saw, as the factory fence is not exactly straight or square. Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. 😎

  43. Pat M on July 12, 2023 at 3:14 pm

Does the horizontal part of the "H" sit on the fence or slightly above?

  44. Dawit Abate on July 12, 2023 at 3:18 pm

Good job next time close up please that way we can see clearly what you doing 👍👍

  45. Andrew Hammond on July 12, 2023 at 3:18 pm

Can you link that track saw square you have? Would you recommend it?
