In this week’s video, I talk about whether or not you need a front vise system on your small shop workbench. There are many options for securing your work to your work table. I go over some of the alternatives for clamping workpieces for planing, chiseling or power tool operations. Some of these solutions might be useful if you are working with hand tools in a room with limited space.

Interessant, det er bestemt en overvejelse værd. Har længe tænkt på gammeldags holdfast og dit sætop passer ind i den tankegang. God video 👍
Great setup! What do you call the 2 screw down clamps that you put into the holes on your table? Thanks!
buena idea
Trabalho perfeito parabéns 👏
What’s the height of your main MF workbench? Thanks Eric. Another thoughtful and helpful video!
Nice set up Eric which obviously works well for you. Simple & very effective, can’t ask for more than that! 👍👍😉😉
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely love, your take on the MFWT, have been trying to figure a way of dropping my leg vice and dead man, you ledge and side clamping technique is the perfect solution. Thanks for sharing
Dead man? Besides a body found in an alley, what’s that? Sign me Total Newb.
This video came at just the right time. Was thinking about getting a vise for my bench and this looks like a way better solution for me!
Are you locking the mft top in place, or do you not feel the need for that?
Thanks for sharing your skills, food for thought, I am just about to change things in my work shop so it’s given me a few ideas. Thanks👍
ótimo vídeo! Me fez pensar em reavaliar minhas configurações de bancadas. Obrigado .
great video! It made me think about reevaluating my bench configurations. Thank you
Everyone needs to find an effective work holding system for themselves. Love your setup, but for me I needed a more traditional setup. I found that I didn’t need a solid maple bench, etc… My bench cost $61 to build including a traditional leg vice and a wagon vise and dog setup. I used a scaffold screw for the leg vise and a $13 veneer press screw for the wagon vise. They are fast, hold like a rock and the Nicholson style front apron provides the side work holding you show on yours (My next bench will probably be a Roubo style). It’s not perfect for every situation (none are) but it is pretty awesome. I love sacrileges !!!
Eric, could you help me if you can ask this question. Drawing conventions should normally conform to what technical drawing code?
I found this video too late
Damn, all those hand tools! Color me envious!
What are those red handled long chisels?
Who the hell is Jon Peters?
what is the brand of these Clamps? thanks
