Easy Woodworking Project For Beginners (Anyone Can Build This!) #woodworking #woodenflag
Today I am going to show you how to build this American Wooden Flag Concealment Case with a key-less lock for safety and security.
It will also have a sliding front face that will open using shelving glides with ball bearings for a smooth opening and closing. Foam was not added as that would be a specific measurement for the owner and the items that he/she would want to hide.
The tools that I used to build this American Flag can be found with the links below.
Cabinet Lock https://amzn.to/2KXqmCz
Wood https://homedepot.sjv.io/k1PDv
Drawer Sliders https://homedepot.sjv.io/A1YxD
Kreg Jig https://homedepot.sjv.io/G4YPB
How did you attach to the wall?
What size kreg jig screws did you use
Would have been nice to see how you bolted this to the wall
Way too thick. Not hiding anything from anyone in that chunky case.
Where do you get the flag stencils? Is it 10.5×15”
All my concealment flags are based on your video. I recommend putting the back on last it’s easy to put the lock on
What happens if the lock runs out of battery when it’s closed
What’s the space you have between the flag & the frame?
How do you like that Makita 16g nailer?
Hello, love your project. Question, will it be fitted in to an alcove , so just to show the flag as if its hanged flush with the wall? and did you add shelves on the inside?
Thank you! Clear instructions of the working parts that I was curious about 👍
How did you hang it! ?
The one thing I would do different: I wouldn’t make it a flag. It would be either be a plain piece of wood that I could hang something on or some non-flag related artwork. Why? Because everyone makes these things with flags. It’s like an advertisement that there might be a hidden gun safe back there. But get an artist to paint an anime character on a sheet of plywood for you and no one would suspect a thing.
One nice enhancement would be to add a painted gold, wooden molding (commercially available) that looks like rope, around all four edges of the flag. Takes a little modification of the molding itself but adds a great look to the finished project. (Sorry, I don’t have pictures of the one I made).
So, what happens when the battery dies in that lock?
On the inside where you put the two pieces of 1×6 for the slides couldn’t you use 2×4 instead possibly?
What size box do you ship with? And where do you get them please and thank you
So when you view it from the side you can see the drawer slides?
Very nice. I like that you show the problems you had, and solutions. I agree with RH below, notch our the case so the slides go thru, so the flag will be flush.
Awesome project. I’m about to do one now that I’ve seen your video. One question what thickness did you use on the plywood for the back?
Cool bro
Amazing job with this
I’d have cut the bottom side of the frame shorter to accommodate the slides so the front flag face was flush with the other sides. Still beautiful work.
I was talking in my work about making a compartment like this and making ideas in my mind about how to do it and now I go to YouTube and I get this video in recommended XD hahahaha
Do you sell these ??
nicely done
It would have been easier to leave the back off and set everything from other side
What Cnc machine is that?
Don’t judge me , lol
Thank you. Just finishing mine. One good tip I can pass along is if you don’t put the back of the box on until the end, fitting the locking mechanism is super easy from the back.
Can I purchase one from you?
Very nice, and cost it great.
Thanks for the tips and tricks Very good job. I would have made it thinner from front to back… and you need a small hole in the front to activate the lock by battery backup when you forget to change the batteries inside the lock…
Fyi, I forgot to mention in the video that you can add foam sheets in the case and cut them out around the bang, bang machines. The reason I did not add this is because each bang, bang has a different shape and design.
You could have build the frame and the flag mounted it all before you add the back this way your lock is spot on
Thousands of lifetime projects with Woodglut plans.
This would be a great coffee table
I’m going to leave the Union White and spray a white base coat. Place down star stencils then spray the blue on top. After it dries remove the stencils and there should be white stars. Do you think this will work? I’m headed to home depot shortly to purchase supplies and start building tomorrow. This will be an xmas gift for my hubby. Wish me luck and THANK YOU FOR THE BEST TUTORIAL BUILD VIDEO ON YOUTUBE!
I made the frame 16” per the video. It looks very short compared to the front.
Whats the name of the cnc machine
Not judging you bro. Great job 👍
Love it
My youngest Son just bought his first fire arm this would be beautiful for him to keep it in 👍
Got a ? Got a 3’ box I want my lid to slide left what length of rails should I go with?
how does it open if the batteries of the rfid lock go bad?
Awesome work man. What machine you use to do the stars?
Very nice! This gave me an idea, thank you. I’m thinking it’s going to be pretty awesome flush mounted on one of my shop walls! Add French cleating on the inside back wall, (&maybe sides too) to have arrangeable stands for cordless tools. The sky’s the limit…
*Note to self: Make sure to mark locking mechanism location BEFORE securing box bottom 😉…
Check✌🏼
Couldn’t find a concealment flag on YouTube? Huh? Anyone can do this, just use your CNC machine… uh… wut? 😉
Where can I find the list of the hardware (rolling tracks and lock)
I’m judging you measure twice screw once
