Essential Outdoor Chair Frame with FREE PLANS

Free Plans: http://ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/essential-wood-outdoor-chair-frame-standard-chair-cushion

Build your own outdoor chairs using free plans from Ana-White.com – step by step diagrams, shopping and cut lists, and video tutorial.

This is a very comfortable, sturdy chair made of 2x4s, that can be stained or painted. It is an easy to build design suitable for beginners. This chair is designed to fit standard 20″ x 20″ seat cushions, with optional back pillows. The arm rests are generous and comfortable, and yes, will hold your drink! It’s heavy enough to not blow over in the wind, but light enough to easily move around. This is one of my favorite chair plans.

I made a couple of these now and they are great. One chair took less than a day, thanks to the plans, and that includes painting.

Like the looks of this chair! You look comfortable in it; I need a chair with good back support & easy to get out of (getting old isn’t as fun as you would think…arthritis is the pits!)

Is the cut list for just one chair or for two?

I have 2x6s on hand, can I use those?

Love this idea. I have made the Adirondack chair many times. About 3 years ago I made a set for our fire pit then all our friends wanted them. But now I am a little older and want something easier to get in and out of. This is perfect.

It’s a bit toasty in the shop this time of year, but I’m going to build these with my daughter this fall! It’s going to be a good opportunity to show her how to take an existing plan and tweak it a bit, to make it your own, for your own needs. But this is a fantastic plan! Thanks! We always look forward to your tips and tricks videos, as well as your feature ones!

Many thanks and greetings from Germany. I’m a big fan of your channel, even if it requires a bit more calculation work. Luckily I found a site that already has the most common formats switched from imperial wood measurements to metric. But the plans you draw are always very helpful.

I really enjoy your work, it makes woodworking approachable to us newbies. Also, thank you for not being one of those channels that only wants to sell us stuff from their sponsors!

  28. Ирина Курбатова on July 17, 2023 at 3:20 pm

Hi Ana, from the UK. I think I am quite ‘handy’ around the house but what would you suggest are the absolute ‘must have’ tools for the work you do?

  42. stilcrazychris on July 17, 2023 at 3:36 pm

4 2×2’s OMG. Building the chair, for me, isn’t the problem, it’s building the padded seat that’s my problem. Do you build it or have/fine some one to build it for you?
I know the foam would be easy. We use to have a store that had it in our town but they have since closed, so now to find a new store that sells it. I do not want or know how or where to find a new store that sells it. I hate to research new places where to find new places to buy new foam seats. And I hate Amazon, bc if it does work you have all that problem to return it back. I want to walk in & tell them the size, let them cutt it & boom done. Have them put the covers on & boom done. Boom done, done now seat it it.
    Any ideas are welcome, please!
Thank you Ana, have a wonderful weekend,
    Chris from Missouri

  50. Holger Jakobs on July 17, 2023 at 3:41 pm

Your ideas and plans are great, an inspiration for many and very easy to build. This is a huge difference to many other channels on YT where you have to invest a couple of thousands into tools in order to save a few hundreds by building stuff yourself.
    Thank you very much, Ana.
