A complete newbie here and thought these tips were extremely helpful. Looking forward to some additional tips/tricks as I progress through my own skills. Thanks Katz!

  2. SilentDiablo on January 27, 2022 at 9:43 pm

You never realize how much skill it takes and all the time and effort and repeatability it takes to actually get that way until you need to be accurate. 🤣

  3. Petar Paskov on January 27, 2022 at 9:44 pm

drilling at exactly 90 degree would be so much easier if the drill wasn’t designed as a toy. If it had flat top… man… So much better

  4. Six Point Forge on January 27, 2022 at 9:45 pm

I use my pocket knife as a marking knife, because I just got started like 4 weeks ago. I was cutting dovetails and a pencil was not cutting it, and I watched your video and used my pocket knife, and got the best dovetails ever thank you for the tip.

  5. michael carney on January 27, 2022 at 9:46 pm

What kind of plane do you recommend for a shooting board. Im New to woodworking .I wont to make a shooting board ,but don’t know what kind of plane to use

  6. Orryo on January 27, 2022 at 9:47 pm

I like to use drill blocks when I can’t use a drill press.

The two different marking tools have different purposes. So essentially not the same thing.

  10. PsiCommando on January 27, 2022 at 9:50 pm

I like to drill through the work bench. I know it’s wrong and makes my work bench look like Stalingrad, but it’s satisfying as f***.

  11. Marvin Horn on January 27, 2022 at 9:51 pm

Thanks for the info. And you have a vid on squares and where to buy them for less could I receive that info please, @ 1mchorn@gmail.com

thank you for your good ideas. A few tools can really improve your accuracy.

If every video taught me so many new tricks I’d be a master craftsman by now. Very useful stuff

  14. lintelle on January 27, 2022 at 9:53 pm

who makes the spring loaded center punch? I have a few of the all-metal punches made by general tool but I really like the looks of the one you use. the ball end looks like it would be much easier on the palm…

    great videos, brother.

6:20. OMG. The reflection on the blade!!! How have I never noticed that?! That’s such a great tip for keeping your saw square. It’s almost like a magic trick — it’s been in front of me the whole time, and I never saw it. I love this channel more every day.

I didn’t know Jimmy Kimmel was a wood worker !

  19. Bob Brown on January 27, 2022 at 10:02 pm

Some good info, but scoring with calipers is a flaud idea. Calipers are about precision, and marking at an angle throws precision out the window.

  20. Anthony Sorensen on January 27, 2022 at 10:02 pm

Might be my favourite woodworking channel. I don’t know if I’ll ever need this level of accuracy, but I appreciate it.

  21. jaayjones on January 27, 2022 at 10:03 pm

Does the Saw Stop table saw still stop the blade when it’s turned off? I am making an assumption that when Mr. Katz-Moses reached over the spinning blade he had turned the saw off. No criticism intended as I have scars, just curious about the mechanics of the saw.

  22. Sean Richards on January 27, 2022 at 10:03 pm

    Thanks mate, great video

  24. Alex Surh on January 27, 2022 at 10:04 pm

@8:27 Im sure you knew where your hands were but that scared me when you moved your right hand over the saw before it came to stop

  25. Joe Newman on January 27, 2022 at 10:04 pm

nice sensible ideas for decent accuracy thanks its improved my woodworking no end 🙂

  31. Louis Shambarger on January 27, 2022 at 10:20 pm

For the drill press with a small piece of wood like you used in the video, I often hold the work piece up to the drill bit to find the divot then lower the work piece and drill bit down to the table with the drill bit still in the divot.

  32. bobbg on January 27, 2022 at 10:21 pm

Well Son: First you have to find the sheep!

My problem is dead on accurate is not dead on!
I can say that because I worked in a machine shop for 7-8 years. you split toothpicks I split hairs!
Woodworking calls for toothpicks, Machine shops call for hairs or even closer.
Wood is a living material it moves a lot,
Metal moves also but not as far and under more extreme

By the way your combination square is not also square I would buy a 6" and 12" machines square and use them on setups or for your machines. the longer the distance 90 dgr goes from the start to the end of the line the more you will see how close the end is to that line you can be 90 dgr – a few min at the far edge of the longest distance.
you want to get as far away from start as you can to look at any angle you have.

The problem with a combination square is they wear out from use or get full of dirt or other reasons, Fast way to check one is the same way you see if a framing square is true.

  33. Eric Barton on January 27, 2022 at 10:21 pm

    Anchor that shooting board Man…..JesusChrist !!!!! J/K man I cld careless 😉

  34. Mailleweaver on January 27, 2022 at 10:22 pm

Just be careful not to cut your thumb when scribing your line, else you might get confused later on which line to follow and end up cutting your thumb off at the table saw.

  35. Kent on January 27, 2022 at 10:23 pm

2 points about what you do (that I also do) that you didn’t speak about: firstly, at https://youtu.be/goUc74RQRus?t=271, you made sure that the flat side of your marking knife was the side that you run along your straight edge, and secondly, transfer dimensions directly using your gauges and squares as you described instead of measuring X inches (or millimetres) several times. Every time that you use the scale on a ruler, you’re introducing a variation that will eventually work against you.

Also, when using marking gauges I find that I have more control when pulling the gauge towards me. Canting the pin-style gauges slightly so that the pins are dragged helps keep them from wandering with the grain.

  36. David Hobson on January 27, 2022 at 10:26 pm

I use referencial dimensions, not the dimensions from the plan I created.

  37. Andrew Bennett on January 27, 2022 at 10:26 pm

Pencil is a plan. Knife is a decision.

  38. twentykeys on January 27, 2022 at 10:29 pm

Amazing video my friend please keep them coming! Have you tried the match fit dovetail clamp system instead of all your beautiful t-track setups? I’m going to use all your designs but with dovetail clams 🙂 so excited thanks for the inspiration! Much love from 🇨🇦

  39. crob83 on January 27, 2022 at 10:29 pm

Where did you get that clamp that holds your vacuum hose to your drill press?

  40. Phil West on January 27, 2022 at 10:29 pm

How long is your engineer’s square?

  41. Fins on January 27, 2022 at 10:30 pm

If the blade in the table saw is the one used to make the cross cut sled, then the edges of the groove should be your cut lines. You shouldn’t need to line up against a tooth.

  42. Bishop Tice on January 27, 2022 at 10:31 pm

Being a newbie I found this very helpful. Thanks bunches.

  43. Heyalth on January 27, 2022 at 10:31 pm

    click the smash button? done

  44. Draztiq Meshaz on January 27, 2022 at 10:34 pm

I don’t know if I mentioned this last time I heard it, but you’re clipping somewhere in your mic chain. You have a powerful voice, just keep it in the green or yellow while recording and bring it up louder in the edit phase. 🤙
These videos are tops, otherwise. Very helpful

  45. David on January 27, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Just one question: Is "the mark" on the minus side, in the middle or on the plus side on a rule or tape measure? Is there an industry standard? Is there ANY standard?

  46. Gary Pillischafske on January 27, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Where did you get that apron? Looks heavy duty and well made. I ruin a lot of clothes in my shop!

  47. Chris Quirk on January 27, 2022 at 10:35 pm
