Evolution Rage 5S Table Saw Re-Review After One Year of Use
Evolution Rage 5S Table Saw Re-Review After One Year of Use.
In this video I will go through some of the issues I had with the Rage 5S, I will talk about what I love about this machine and what has failed me. I will cover some important points in this video so please watch the hole video to get the full picture. Points that I will be raising in my video may sway you to buy this table saw or in the contrary, avoid it like fire.

Yo Tomasz, I got it all sorted out, stupid me!
I send Evolution a mail with the question about a kind of “storage” clamps on the side of the plastic housing of the saw, but no reply. Do you know why they are there, it looks to lay or hang something there but what!!
Keep on doing your nice and helpfull videos.
Hey Thomaz thanks for the review, are u aware that Amazon have the Saxton blades now with the right bore to fit the 5s , ive just picked up 1 myself so no more reducer rings 😀 happy new yr my friend 👍🍸
Make a new cover out of hardwood.
As a newbie, I’m just starting out, I have been looking at table saws and this Evo was at the top of my list. Having watched your very informative video (thank you) I am just a little worried that it may not be the best choice. I can afford a little more than £300 for a saw, but not the thousands that are needed for professional ones. Would you recommend this saw for a beginner, or should I perhaps consider spending another 1 or 2 hundred pounds on a DW, Bosch or similar?
I bought this saw in September 2020 and it was shockingly bad. Fence out by 11mm back to front, mitre carriage rattles in the slot and the mitre fence also rattles in the slot in the carriage. This makes accurate cuts impossible. The blade would not bevel over to 45° and the saw itself swings loose in when the locking lever released. I’ve have returned the saw receiving a replacement 11 days later this one is even worse. Currently (13/1/20) fighting with evolution customer services for a full refund, they are being difficult to say the least. Overall a terrible experience, DO NOT BUY THIS SAW!!
A demonstration of the bench saw would have been nice.
Thank you Thomas, for a great informative and interesting video, I check my riving knife on my saw today, although my machine is a Titan, which is ok, I will probably update in the near future.
Thank you again
Take care
Sam
Does the standard blade cut white board cleaning without chipping it?
Thank you for a comprehensive video. I have used bosch full kerf woodworking blades (with reducing ring for the bore) and the saw has performed flawlessly. Still a great saw for the price and very happy with my purchase.
P.s. I have a similar problem with my riving knife with it angled slightly so it pulls the work piece away from the fence. I will try your advice to adjust the bolt tension. Great tips.
I’m going to try and paint quality enamel onto the miter gauge and bake it in the oven and see if that closes the gap.
This video was excellent, really excellent! Very matter of fact whilst remaining interesting. You have a very relaxed style, very natural. Subscribed! I came specifically as want this saw, I don’t trust the manufacturer reviews for honestly outlining the pros and cons as you did. Great job!
Just a comment on your t-shirt. I’m a big believer in making peace & not war but doesn’t war make dust? Ashes to ashes, dust to dust 🙂
I bought this saw because of this video I’ve been trying to rip down some large pieces of oak and I’m having a few issues the blade seems to keep bending and moving while I’m cutting I think this could be due to the thin blade and maybe some issues with the rything knife can anyone give me some tips and advice on how to solve this I would really apriciate the help
Great review I’m still unsure if I should get one 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Is the newer Rage 5 worth the extra £100 over Screwfix one at about £250 ? Useful comments, thank you.
Another fantastic review. I managed to resolve my rip fence and riving blade after watching your video. Thanks Tomasz 😊
Ive just taken delivery of a new Rage 5-s and its a great unit but I agree about the poor flimsy orange plastic plate – utter rubbish, and the new design safety guard is still not functioning properly, jamming the wood before the blade. They also took off the panic stop switch – why would they do that? I’ve ordered an alternative one from a guy on Etsy so I can stop it easier in an emergency. Its more costly than many budegt or entry-level table saws and has some great feautres like the exptending work surface and the slliding panel for the crappy mitre guide. This is my first table saw and its a game changer for my projeects.
It seems making a zero clearance plate for this particular saw should give you more options. Seeing that you can make it of sheet metal or aluminum. Thanks for sharing your experience with this saw.
So based on your informative review i had committed myself to grabbing one at screwfix……. But! Yes there is a blade issue! I telephoned evolution and they confirmed that using any blade other than dedicated evolution blade will absolutely invalidate the warranty.
They stated that other blades designed to run at higher speeds will overwork the motor and other blades generally have a bigger kerf which will damage the gearbox 😂
Hitachi here i come!
Thanks for the review. I am receiving mine today and I am looking forward to it.
Saxton Saw blades do blades that will fit, they are 30mm bore but they supply a reduction ring to fit 25.4mm. I but all my blades from them, they are better priced and decent quality. I use them for my Dewalt recipocating saw, my circular, and my current table saw. I am thinking about one of these for space purposes. I have an evolution motor- gen- power wash setup and it’s great, not had any problems (yet). by the way you can find Saxton on Amazon, or direct.
Saxton do 25.4 bore blades… they’re all I use
👍 thanks Thomas for sharing your video and information, very informative.
Just got this saw. Very disappointed. Did not realize it does not support a dato blade kit. Not enough room. Called evolution and they confirmed its for single blade only. Who the hell makes a table saw that can’t support a dato blade. Taking back. My last table saw from harbor freight was better.
HELLO.IHAVE A NEW RAGE 5 EVO AND A HAVE AN ISSUE.tHE BLADE IS NOT PARALLEL WITH FENCE. AT THE EXIT OF MATERIAL ,BLADE IS CLOSER TO THE GUARD.bOUT 0.6….1 MM.dO YOU HAVE A SOLUTION?
are u selling this saw?
Hi Thomas…. would you still recommend this table saw in a price range of £500-700? I have watched a lot of reviews for this table saw which seem ok but there are lots of glitches like you’ve mentioned and the horror stories on Amazon UK 🇬🇧 with damaged tables etc has put me off.
I did look at the Metabo TS254 and i tried to find a Dewalt model which it says is currently unavailable.
I’m a beginner looking to get into woodworking so would appreciate any advice. Thanks 👍🏻
Wow good price and awesome features on this table saw, interesting…
"It cuts at 2400 RPM"
K thx bye.
tomasz that very same saw i(evolution rage 5 s) is 690 euro here in ireland + 130 euro delivery. the dewalt dwe7485 is around 680 euro (much better saw )
. what is going on here? are amazon ripping the irish people off ???….. i buy stuff from amazon frequently and find them very good
but the comparison with these 2 items is insane , as you said you paid 230 to 250 british pounds for the evolution rage 5 s . not impressed !
Just FYI, I’m using a Diablo 90-tooth blade (expensive beast but great for wood crosscuts, ply, etc.). The blade is 30mm bore but comes with its own set of adaptor rings including 25.4mm, and I’ve had no problems with it.
BTW my blade guard works fine (it’s the clear type). I had to raise the riving knife so that the guard attachment hole is at least 10mm above the blade; then the work piece always fits under the guard when the blade is at that height.
What’s you view on accuracy of this saw? i.e. if you wanted to remove a fraction of a mm from a previously cut piece is it easy to adjust the fence? also does the fence by small amounts? And does the fence always stay square when moved?
Thomas it’s not ok to delete peoples posts.
i had one problem with this saw which was an easy fix. using it one day i found the timber was coming away from fence after the cut .the problem was dust extraction hose was attached from the side of saw and had the saw blade assemble under tension and was tilting the blade . easy fix made sure hose was fitted in line with saw and under no tension, after that cuts where good again. Regarding miter gauge looseness , i put some shims in track under gauge pushing it up into track tightening into the sliding bed
Hi Tomasz I notice your riving knife is about level with your blade. To stop the crown guard from interfering with your work piece you will need to adjust the riving knife so it sits about 10mm above the blade level. This should solve your issue.
saxton do a 25.4 mm bore blade for this saw , I use it & it cuts fine if you don’t rush it ,( I am a qualified wood-machinist & cabinet maker)
Hi great review. You say this saw can cut full sheets of plywood. With the saw cutting width only 590mm and plywood having a width of 1220mm how would you cut a full sheet down the middle to 610mm
How can I adjust the rip fence? My rip fence has a play in the untightened state, which means that the rip fence is not really parallel when tightened. Thanks for your answer.
Relevant hoodie.
Hi Thomas, I have had big problems with the RAGE5-Stable saw. I bought one and found the table was distorted, so I changed the machine. However the new one also had exactly the same faults. This means that some or all of these machines are made with a table that is not sufficently flat. You can see the video I made showing the faults. Neither of the two machines I have had are able to cut accurately. The machines were both fine for cutting large sheet material but you could not machine up a nice rectangular section of timber for joinery purposes. The measured angular distortion between the table to the left and to the right of the blade is between 2-4degrees. @ . Can you check your machine and see if your table is flat. I wonder if I should try and swap for a third machine or give up? Many thanks.
Hello Tomasz, this I know but on both of these sides are also a space and clip-kind of things from which I do not know why they are there, but no worries because it looks Evolution also do not know as they do not answer both my mails. Anyway, thanks for your replies and dont worry.
Keep up the good work and fun. Djenkujė, probably wrong spelling :0
where are you from?
Is it noisy? Was looking forward to hearing it in action
Thomas, could you please advise the cross-section dimensions of the Evolution Rage 5S mitre track? many Thanks.
Hello. I thinking about Dewalt but it’s not the cheapest table saw. I’m just starting my travel in woodworking. Do you think i can take something mutch better for more money? I think about couple projects in my garden like pergola, chair, table, fence. Maybe in future if i learned more make kitchen cabinets. Thanks
From the evolution website:
Evolution does not warrant the repair or replacement of a product as a result of:
…Use of parts and accessories (including blades) which are not Evolution Genuine Components…
Whaaaaat???
Make a plywood zero clearance insert, then change the aluminium mitre gauge insert for a hardwood one to stop the slop, SORTED!!
Thanks for the info.
Great information! While assembling my Rage 5s, I found a small black spring about half an inch long and a little over a quarter inch in diameter with a hook on each end. The instruction doesn’t mention this anywhere. Online parts print seem to have it around the latch pin of the stand, but it’s a bit difficult to tell due to small size. Do you know where this black spring belongs and how it should be installed? Thanks!
This machine made in China, what isn’t made in China that is the problem, you no longer get many items that arn’t made in China. I have this table saw and WOULD NOT recommend it, cannot get a straight cut and have spent a lot of time adjusting the blade and the fence. Not expecting 100% accuracy, but just something that is usable which atm it is not.
Hej, pytanie od współplemieńca – czy ta piła jest aż tak niezła? Krążę wokół jej zakupu i mam wybór między DeWalt dwe7492 a nią. Wciąż zwlekam z decyzją bo to jednak prawie nieznany model w Polsce i brak obiektywnych ocen
