I built a hardwood woodworking moxon vise on a budget. I used maple and cherry and some parts I sourced from the net. There’s two ways to build it ranging from $80-$120. I put bench dogs in for clamping on the workbench and the vise uses zinc plated hand wheels, ¾ inch #10 all thread, 3/4 “ nuts and washers. For my version I splurged a little and got some 3 degree washers but this could easily be done with regular ¾” washers. Please subscribe, comment and like. Thanks for watching!

Hi Jonathan, I am truly a big fan of yours and also a buyer of your fine products. I do not mean to be critical of your format at all but I just wanted to offer a little advice to you; granted it is unasked for. I realized that my being older than you are and obviously than a lot of your subscribers, my tastes in music might be different than yours, but regardless of that it is most distracting when one is trying to watch your instructive videos to listen to such cacophonous sounds at the same time. Of course I could just turn down the sound so I couldn’t hear your music but then I couldn’t hear your instructions. 😕
I love it. This will give me the elevation I need on top of my Assembly/Outfeed table so I don’t strain my back.
I hate math because I suck at it. Just thought I’d share that.
It would have been so much better to see you build a $100 vice using commonly available tools. Using biscuit joiner, and many tools I don’t have makes this great vice out of reach for me.
Question: Aren’t you concerned about the cross-grain "growth" (expansion contraction) between the top and the legs? LOVE your work–you ARE the MAN!
$100 wouldn’t buy the hardwood today.

I really like your design.
Question;
Could you put dowels in the bottom of the base and use your dog holes to hold the vise?
Of course, you would need to clamp it to the bench.
The video and plans made this build straightforward (basic).
I decided to buy the “Laser Cut Physical Templates for the jaws on both my Moxon Vise Builds.”
This took 11days to deliver to New Zealand couldn’t get any faster than that USA to NZ surprising quick.
Great product! 👍👍👍👍
Hello @Jonathan Katz-Moses;
The hardware for your configuration is over $150, are you providing the stocks or your math is not correct?
Thanks,
The only thing my fiancé heard was outlining your nuts.
Wish you would sell these. My shop lacks the power tools to build it.
WHERE in the world do you get beautiful …thick maple and cherry wood like that?
Hi, I just bought these plans but the dimensions for the thickness of the jaws and the workbench portion are missing.
Great 👍
Talks about doing this on a budget, but uses thousands of dollars of equipment to build it.
Absolutely loved this project as I truly need a Moxen vise in my ONE Wall woodshop in my 2 car garage……….space is at a real premimum……..I was already preparing to make Tamar’s Moxen vise but now, seeing this one……….IT’S Da Bomb!!……..Thank you Jonathan…………
Hi Jonathan! Perhaps a cost update for this project would be in order. Check out the new McMaster’s prices! Thanks
I love this; beautiful job
Does the front jaw move with the handle?
What is that song at the start ?
Great video love it 😀
Great build, at first I thought I was watching Jimmy Kimmel, lol
Dang inflation – a lot of this stuff has doubled at McMaster
What is the name of that song at 4:50?
Красивое изделие получилось.
Однозначно ➕ плюс.
It’s not said nearly enough, but the Katz-Moses channel has the best b-roll music… I’m jamming out on every vid.
Thanks for the great videos!
What spray gun were you using??
Has wood movement been an issue with the top glued to legs. Thanks
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
You made that look so easy. And for under a hundred dollars when most are around $200. I have to ask because you said you live in California. You said it was hot in your shop because you could not have a AC unit in there cooling it off. Why no AC for your shop.
Hope you keep the videos comming
👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍 from the calif. wild man. 88 yrs and still going.how long only GOD KNOWS, all be safe .
I’ve always thought the music in your videos was next level. Would you publish playlists?
Nice Moxon vise. Great tunes!
The ¾ inch rod is $43 bucks now.
DROOLING…..
Thanks Jonathan! Think this is going to be my first shop project for the year. Grabbing the plans from your website now!
Jonathan…………you specify purchasing a 3′ – 0 section of the 3/4" and in your plans you say to cut 2 19" pieces…………is it a misprint or do I need to purchase say 2 – 2′-0" pieces?? Just an observation……….Thank you
Is your new, CNC’d plywood dovetail jig able to be used with this vise? Looks perfect for laying out the pins, but not sure if the jig works.
I just finished building my Moxon vise and I am really pleased with the results. One comment you might want to update your estimates of cost. Wood is now $8 a BF and higher and the hardware such as the threaded rod is close to twice what it was when you first posted the links.
Great build! What type of finish did you spray on it? And what was the weight of the mallet you used? 12oz? Thanks!
A totally unuseful video, just a show off. For learners and beginners, there is nothing to learn here. 😞
I’m here following your link from the newsletter which has already become a valuable resource for me
I feel like I was sweating with you. By the way check into making a swamp cooler. Not as good as an air conditioner but a cheap alternative.
1:11
For beginners a little more verbal description with various steps would have been more helpful. Great build however.
Love your work!
Thank you for the free plans!
I’m guessing the price you quoted was just for the hardware… Not the lumber.
4 :51 what is that song????!!!
