Heavy Duty Workbench for Cheap.

Heavy Duty Workbench for Cheap.

How to make a simple heavy duty workbench out of nothing but 2x4s. Brought to us by EcoFlow. Check out their portable power stations here: https://us.ecoflow.com/?aff=279

Making a woodworking workbench doesn’t have to be complicated and expensive. In this build I use nothing but 2x4s (as well as glue and brad nails). There’s no complicated joinery and can be made without any clamps. One of the things I struggled with when I got started with woodworking is how to make a workbench without a workbench to work on? This project is so simple it can be done out of the back of your truck or driveway with very few tools. You could get by with only a circular saw and a drill if needed. You ready to Make Something?! surprised you didn’t take the staples and tags off those 2x4s before running them through the planer

Made a trip to Kencraft today and i gotta say, ive never seen so many great choices in wood, from color and species to grain patterns. Think i found my adult, toys-r-us, lol. And they asked how i heard about them, so i said you, lol.

I like how you do your sponsors justice in the way u advertise their products, very passionate. I admire that

Love it! Thank you. What a great, simple tutorial!

  5. Zero Cool on February 23, 2023 at 6:07 am

I’m really diggin this idea of building in the woods using off-grid tech like battery generators. Do it again! Maybe start finding more elaborate nature scenes??? This is so cool.

  6. John Arnold on February 23, 2023 at 6:08 am

His is an ad for that foolish battery. Not a video on how to build a good bench. You suck

  7. Tim Costin on February 23, 2023 at 6:08 am

Love your video. Quick question. Will this hold 350 lbs? I need a bench for a UV printer with wheels. Thanks

Filter for the battery… they dont like such dusty environs when temps get hot and fans start to kick in.

Good video as usual just wish the commercials were shorter.

    Great job!

  12. Joseph Watson on February 23, 2023 at 6:13 am

I made the dumb mistake of not building one without considering the top width for my planer. So I had to flatten with hand planes. The upside now I look like Popeye after eating spinach. 😂

This is freaking awesome. Nice video.

  14. Hunt's Workshop on February 23, 2023 at 6:21 am

Love your videos! I almost cried though 3:40 leaving that tag stapled on made my OCD hurt 😂

  15. DestroManiak on February 23, 2023 at 6:24 am

How is the time breakdown without the table top? Did it take as long as the rest of the build combined?

  16. Kevin Mooney on February 23, 2023 at 6:25 am

Great to see a back-to-basics project by David. This was a great vid to watch (nice power unit too!).

I have some 20 year old douglas fir removed from a false ceiling. I think I have enpough.

  18. Bud De on February 23, 2023 at 6:27 am

Awesome workbench, something I could really use. I have all the tools to build. My problem is trying to find 2×4’s that match the quality of the ones you have. At my Home Depot you have to check out 2000 boards to find 1 that is close to straight.
What grade are the 2×4’s you used?

  19. Danny Self on February 23, 2023 at 6:27 am

Happy 47th. Don’t get too knocked back. :p

  20. Forward Engineering on February 23, 2023 at 6:28 am

What Marine coating did you use?

  21. K LE on February 23, 2023 at 6:29 am

After glueing the leg pieces, brad nailing them is just as good as using screws instead?

  22. Paul Behrens on February 23, 2023 at 6:30 am

There is a constant buzz on the left channel.

  23. Forward Engineering on February 23, 2023 at 6:31 am

Are brad nails really successful enough for this? I will mount a vice to mine and be beating on it. I know glue holds stronger than nails or screws but as far as pulling the wood together I’m thinking using threaded rod or something.

  24. Lester Dela Cruz on February 23, 2023 at 6:33 am

Can I just use two sheets of 4×2 mdf for the table top? Seems to be more economical.

  25. Tim Daniels on February 23, 2023 at 6:34 am

    Thanks!

  26. Hachibahn 88 on February 23, 2023 at 6:34 am

thanks so much, love the bench , the simplicity, the quality, the strength. whod a thunk to use a nail gun, no clamps. very nice. love the solar charging battery pack too !

  27. Bud Wrigley on February 23, 2023 at 6:35 am

Thanks for a great video. If I wanted to make it a 6 foot top, Could I just increase the cross supports by 24 inches?

  28. Arnie's Tech on February 23, 2023 at 6:36 am

The trees around him look especially nervous. Processing a former tree infront of its buddies is borderline savage.

  29. Mickey Bailey on February 23, 2023 at 6:38 am

Really great design and problem solving. One of the best clips (IMHO) yet!

  30. memo1269 on February 23, 2023 at 6:39 am

Oh hey! A shit project that doubles as a shit commercial! Nice!

  31. Marion Dorsett on February 23, 2023 at 6:41 am

Thank you for this build. I just made your bench this month. I added locking casters, and doubled up on the plywood top. I made a cabinet out of the lower portion of the bench. I’m going to add a shelf on drawer slides to access smaller tools and I’ll put my larger tools on the bottom shelf. To finish it off I’ll add doors to keep the dust out. It’s working well for me right now, and I’ll get rid of one of my rubber maid tubs!

  32. Daniele Ciroi on February 23, 2023 at 6:41 am

Me laughting ,thinking a workbench under 100 dollars but using over 5k bucks of powertools

  33. Greg T on February 23, 2023 at 6:41 am

Wait you did this in your back yard…. cheap youtube trick….🙂 But I love it!! Love your hard work bro

Did they repair the Kpex ? It kinda looks new!

  35. Sheerios Sheerios on February 23, 2023 at 6:43 am

Those 2×4’s look good. Not like what my local HomeDepot has.

  36. Amateur Carpenter on February 23, 2023 at 6:44 am

    It’s great 👍👍👍

  37. John Arnold on February 23, 2023 at 6:45 am

This bench will last as long as you look at it. Once you use it it’s going to rack, twist and bounce. You will be incredibly disappointed and end up giving up woodworking. Go to “Rex fugues it out” on YT and search for his planets bench. THAT is a good bench.

  38. Daniel Leal on February 23, 2023 at 6:45 am

Fantastic bench! I think I’ll replace my garage bench someday with this one. I guess if you really wanted to not use clamps you could screw down some boards wider that the width of the bench top and then use wedges to on each side to shove em together. (For anyone looking to avoid clamps for whatever reason)

  39. EggyOrphan on February 23, 2023 at 6:45 am

Hey guys, does anyone know if it’s ok to make the table without rounding over 2x4s? Don’t have much power tools and mines have too many knots to hand plane flat…

  40. Ready Set Build It on February 23, 2023 at 6:46 am

This was an awesome build. I’m def going to building something similar for my shop. Oh and that eco battery pack is amazing. I wouldn’t have thought you can power all of those tools seamlessly and it retained a ton of battery life.

  41. zmurah on February 23, 2023 at 6:48 am

Is this the first video David didn’t close with his signature phrase? *sigh*

  42. Kevin Higgenbottom on February 23, 2023 at 6:49 am

I like the workbench I wish I had something like that but not so big and that’s so wide for me to put a can crushing device on there for the apartment life I want that do something different besides using my temper I crashed my can I want to do something fun with my candy crushing but this workbench was in perfect but needs to be just a little bit closer instead of wider for my apartment life cuz I’ll find the spot for it if I had something made like this don’t have to be that wide it might have to have a shelf on the bottom to put my trash bags down when I need the trash bag to put my cans in but I like this table breakfast I wish I had something like this but smaller but heavy duty where it’s not going to tip over or anything like that but for right now it’s just an ideal in my head I’m trying to get ideal how to make my own can crushing device everybody else comes up with all these cool ones and I should have thought that before they did but for right now I like your workbench

  43. Lessko Brandon on February 23, 2023 at 6:50 am

    Impressive. Especially the battery part.

Next on Make Something: Pit Stop Piano Bench

  45. David Walsh on February 23, 2023 at 6:53 am

Put a section of that melamine under the top when you run it through the planer and it will come out flat!

  46. Milan Dzunda on February 23, 2023 at 6:53 am

Wonder what did you manage to break when throwing those scrap pieces 😆

  47. Name on February 23, 2023 at 6:55 am

It would be cool if you connected the two top slabs with a 2×4 laid on its side. This would put a tool well in it like a traditional jointers bench and if you used pocket screws you wouldn’t need clamps at all for the entire project. I don’t need a bench but I think I’m going to use this idea as a base for shelves in my garage.

  48. Jehan Martinez on February 23, 2023 at 6:56 am

What position did you screw the expansion brackets?
