How Safe is a Sawstop Saw? – Never Before Seen 19,000 FPS HD Slow-Mo Video

To better understand how safe a Sawstop Tablesaw is we rented the Phantom V2640 high definition slow motion camera. We did nine activations and analyzed the footage. This was done on their 5 hp ICS Model and would certainly perform even better on a PCS or Job-site Model. I really can’t wait to see what you create! Let me know what you’d like to see next. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

    1,000 G’s of stopping power……shiat

  2. Ivan Krushensky on June 12, 2022 at 8:53 pm

Thank you for doing the speed test! I’ve always wondered that exact thing- full speed, what kind of damage we talking? I’d take a few stitches over missing fingers any day.

  3. Oneness Seeker on June 12, 2022 at 8:53 pm

I would never trust using one of these saws full stop.

  4. حمید رضا on June 12, 2022 at 8:54 pm

Your finger’s skin is an insulating material! the best simulation is covering the hotdog with a thin layer of insulating material then testing!

  5. Curtis Franks on June 12, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Really it only works on hot dogs 🌭

  6. Adog312 on June 12, 2022 at 8:57 pm

    that’s some really awesome technology

  7. Luke Nukem on June 12, 2022 at 8:58 pm

The dado teeth coming off wasn’t breaking of the brazing, but because the outside blades have more inertia than the inner blades, and would have rotated against the inner blades and the teeth collided. Regardless, super impressive and I would love to have this sort of safety on every tool in the workshop

  8. ImSkittzle on June 12, 2022 at 9:04 pm

That is unbelievable . Reason #52567 why you can trust science

the question i have when I see these is, what about the shrapnel? i see clips online of saw teeth flying off in the direction of the user’s body at high speed… seems like saving saving a finger at the expense of metal shrapnel in the neck is a scary trade but maybe i’m missing something?

  12. John Abrahamsen on June 12, 2022 at 9:06 pm

Id like one of these. I always lost a finger some years back. Luckily the only thing I lost were a pair of trousers. After that you learn to respect a blade going at a high speed with its own will…

  13. Yung Tuna on June 12, 2022 at 9:06 pm

I tried this with my penis. I was a bit nervous at first but I can confirm this does work like a charm! Just a slight mark but nothing serious!

  14. Skidbladnir on June 12, 2022 at 9:08 pm

Them you lost approximately $2000 or really more just for that ?
Is it not better to becarful… ?

  15. Cj Janoss on June 12, 2022 at 9:08 pm

We have 2 at work. They work! A guy got a kick and hand went in and it was LOUD. he put a bandaid on and took it off after lunch. SCRATCH.

  16. Ben Bawden on June 12, 2022 at 9:09 pm

    Totally impressed 👏👏👏

  17. Specialized 29er on June 12, 2022 at 9:09 pm

We saw the Sawstop table a few years ago and after a recent close call I thought fuck the expense and went out and bought a $4,500 table.

  18. Blue Matrix on June 12, 2022 at 9:09 pm

if you wear gloves that saw stops as well?

can you use some blades after stopping them?

  27. Bill K. on June 12, 2022 at 9:25 pm

  28. Dr_OgFresh on June 12, 2022 at 9:29 pm

Imagine you missed the hotdog and went full speed with one of your fingers : /

  33. Gunnar Horpestad on June 12, 2022 at 9:37 pm

    Bla bla bla bla……

  34. rubrum vulpes puella on June 12, 2022 at 9:38 pm

Why don’t you put your fingers ? Don’t you trust the sawstop ?

  35. toldt on June 12, 2022 at 9:39 pm

How about gloves? Wish you had put a hot dog in one.

  36. Khorne19 on June 12, 2022 at 9:39 pm

2:15 if you just wanna see the video

  37. Lorofol on June 12, 2022 at 9:39 pm

So it would work if you accidentally touch the side of the disc?

  38. Adog312 on June 12, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Honestly I want to see someone test it with their hand. I know that’s stupid and dangerous and not worth it for a youtube video, but I really wanna see it in actual use.

  39. J D on June 12, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Jimmy Kimmel oh no it’s Jonathan

  40. fuckgoogle on June 12, 2022 at 9:40 pm

I would caution people against believing you’ll walk away with a few stitches and be fine. You have to consider not only the depth of the cut but the tearing. At high velocity, you would still see serious tissue damage that could lay you up for months and there could be intense scarring and long term loss of sensation in the affected area. Having said all of that, there is still a vital difference with this vs. a conventional table saw: You get to keep your thumb and it will eventually be useful again. To me that’s worth it, just don’t let it be even a partial replacement for caution.

  41. Grady Parsons on June 12, 2022 at 9:40 pm

That’s 3 mm for normal people.

  42. live by my own Law on June 12, 2022 at 9:42 pm

If it’s such a good saw why didn’t you show video of you using your own finger that you only get a little scratch haha

  43. William Wheats on June 12, 2022 at 9:42 pm

Ok now drop a rack of ribs on it, I wanna see how it would react to falling on it

  44. FacelessDoritoOwO on June 12, 2022 at 9:43 pm

I wanna see someone slam their fist on this and see if it barely scratches their fist

  45. au7WeeNg on June 12, 2022 at 9:45 pm

why does the blade need to stop, why not simply make it go down and a bit forward

  46. rareguy on June 12, 2022 at 9:48 pm

My best friend has one of this in his workshop. One time I was helping him doing some cutting and suddenly the sawstop activated itself without any visible reason. When I took a look closer I realized that inside the wood was an old and rusty nail.

  47. Mike Larsen on June 12, 2022 at 9:49 pm

I was simply blown away by this! I don’t know what a Sawstop saw cost, but I bet it’s ridiculously expensive. And, after seeing this, I’d say it’s worth every penny. Thanks for that fantastic demonstration!

  48. Mauro Donini on June 12, 2022 at 9:49 pm

The ones who complain about this technology never worked in their entire life anywhere. Well done.

  49. domlee590 on June 12, 2022 at 9:51 pm

This really should be required in shops used for education. I recall many years ago taking a woodshop class in a middle school where students were using the table saw on a daily basis, and I always felt that was less than safe. That class was certainly not without accidents and this would improve the safety immensely

  50. Jason Stilgebouer on June 12, 2022 at 9:51 pm

This is the best recommendation video I have ever seen. I don’t even watch wood working videos lol
