Is there something extremely hard about this? I always see ads on craigslist for people trying to hire finish carpenters and the guys seem to make a lot of money.

Not trying to be condescending, I have no familiarity with carpentry and I’m just curious.

Also Tim, so glad to see you using a dust collection system, cutting that MDF. My Bosch has a Rousseau 5000 Dust Solution Hood connected to 1 HP Grizzly  Dust collector, upgraded 3 micron bag, on an auto I-switch, along with the Bosch tablesaw.  I have an extension jamb inner shim tip I’d love to share with you, but can’t let the masses have. Cheers!

Hey Tim!! Question, I am dealing with a lower ceiling height in my basement due to a section where my doors being stuck under the beam & duct work in the basement… my question is should I keep a top plate for the doors, or remove them? I plan on subflooring my basement with dricore r+ and do not want to lose much height… however with the bulkhead I will be down approx 10-10 1/4" down from the joists (before drywall).. But without the top plate, how would you put casing/trim on the doors? Thanks!!

  22. Painter josh on January 16, 2019 at 8:33 pm

  23. Yuriy Zamoshnikov on January 16, 2019 at 8:33 pm

Do you make money doing carpentry cause it seems like you do things a lot slower and less efficient than normal

  24. nathaniel true on January 16, 2019 at 8:35 pm

Why wouldnt you use a protractor do the outside corner perfect no wasting pieces!

  25. Bob Davis on January 16, 2019 at 8:36 pm

So Tim, I have some tips for you. Construction terms: horizontal is level, vertical is plumb.  Use a magnetic 6 foot jamb setting level (Stabila or Empire),  check your headcasing for level prior to nailing hinge side, unless you enjoy trimming bottom of strike leg jamb with a multitool.  Always start with nailing top hinge, making sure your shims accommodate twist of the trimmer, unless you enjoy hinge bound doors.  Look over your shoulder as you apply pressure on the hinge jamb against the shims, adjust shims as needed. 1000+ doors installed, I know how to do fast and right. Nice Vid!

  41. Douglas Hanlon on January 16, 2019 at 8:56 pm

if your saw was cutting 90 degrees that shouldn’t have been there if you held it tight to the fence …..but then you are using a bosch saw so it’s understandable……35 years of doing finish carpentry the one chop saw i had that sucked was a bosch…they are no better then the crap harbor freight sells

  42. ndleinahaystack on January 16, 2019 at 8:56 pm

Use CA Glue… works a lot better and quicker than wood glue…
