A V-block is a must-have shop-made jig, especially for safely cutting round stock on the bandsaw. The easiest way to make one? Use a two-cut set up on the table saw and it’ll be V for victory.

Need help! I just made this jig, and was using it with my miter saw when I got nasty kickback! I was using a stop block for repeated cuts, which might have caused everything to bind, but im not sure now how to get my cuts all the same size without the kickback. Please if anyone can help, I am very confused.

How would this be done but with a way thinner groove? For example ¬ thin as a sheet or two of paper so it just fits

If one has no access to a table saw, what are the alternatives?

  20. Dennis Harold on June 15, 2022 at 9:27 pm

Check woodprix handbook if you want to make it cheaper and better.

  21. Thomas Ralfenson on June 15, 2022 at 9:27 pm

I used Woodglut instructions for this and I already did it 🙂

George, If you return the blade to 90 degrees and cut a slot about 3/16 deep down the center of the "V" it would work better with a square.

  23. Jeffrey Cunningtown on June 15, 2022 at 9:33 pm

I prefer to build with woodglut plans.

  24. Hudson on June 15, 2022 at 9:34 pm

  25. Bernadette Husch on June 15, 2022 at 9:36 pm

Good vid on how to make the indispensable "V block" Your wooden V block is something every woodworker should have.

  27. Trey Litel on June 15, 2022 at 9:39 pm

where did you get that yellow safety pusher thing?

  28. David Sigetich on June 15, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Thank you for this video. You demystified it for me. I used a blade angle of 35° on a 2 X 4. Based on your 3/8" starting point for the wood you used, I set my fence to 1" for the 2 X 4 and, using trial and error after watching you, determined that the correct blade depth is 0.96". That 1" fence setting gave me pretty much the centre of the 2 X 4.

  29. Belia Krouse on June 15, 2022 at 9:42 pm

I did it with stodoys plans.

  30. Tamara Tamrot on June 15, 2022 at 9:43 pm

I will try to do it with Woodglut plans.

  31. Brassfield Zendejas on June 15, 2022 at 9:45 pm

Plans from Stodoys help solve technical problems.

  32. William Bergmann on June 15, 2022 at 9:52 pm

    Simple trick. Thanks.
Will lose some dimension due to the kerf but even that could be avoided.

  33. gtbones on June 15, 2022 at 9:53 pm

For me the mystery is how do you set up the saw so that the two 45’s meets in the center of the block?
That would have been a very useful aspect of this to show.

  34. Jeff Harmed on June 15, 2022 at 9:55 pm

Good vignette. Yes the V block is useful enough to keep about but isn’t it easier to fabricate? That was my first impulse. Don’t forget that the blade guard must first be removed to make these cuts, so you have to factor that in.

The fabricated V block can be made with a band saw and wood scraps

Anyone know what brand of ear protection he is wearing?

  36. Dan Hartman on June 15, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Good video.  I learned from it.  What I am still having trouble with is centering the "V" exactly where I want it.  Any suggestions out there?
