  6. Albert Lee on September 23, 2023 at 8:07 pm

Bad idea for application where the edge will be exposed to moisture. The sparkle will just fall apart. Better to use bondo instead.

A MUCH easier, faster and better way is iron on edge banding.

Spackle is material for the walls right? Not originally for wood. But i understand it is better to use it on wood because it dries faster. Cheaper..

  21. Jarome Jacksan on September 23, 2023 at 8:26 pm

This time I will use Woodglut plans for this.

  22. AMusicalPsychosis on September 23, 2023 at 8:27 pm

    So simple.

  23. worldtraveler on September 23, 2023 at 8:29 pm

Spackle works great for hiding nails when painting trim molding. Lightly set your nails, spackle, sand and paint. Been using this trick for decades.

  24. Jose Herrera on September 23, 2023 at 8:30 pm

    I do this with MDF

  28. Jorgi on September 23, 2023 at 8:34 pm

Good idea, but can I buy this stuff in Germany? Would you please spell the name. It would be a great help for me. Thanks a lot.

  29. Dan Ervin on September 23, 2023 at 8:36 pm

I promise you, the edges will show over time. The plies expand and contract seasonally, and also at different rates than the ones they’re glued next to. Give it 4 seasons and your edges will telegraph right through that spackle. Just edge band and be done with it.

Had to watch about 6 videos for this information😅. Glad I found your video Thank you.

  45. SJChip on September 23, 2023 at 8:54 pm

This seems to be a very good idea for those edges / projects that won’t be under a great deal of use or stress. Spackle, while having some flex, is more like plaster than wood. It will not bend as well, expand and contract as wood does. If such an edge is struck (say by the back of a chair) it will crack and flake, rather than dent.

If your project is something which is more to be looked at more than "used" (picture frame / decorative shelving), this looks like a very nice trick to put in your "bag". But if you’re making something that will undergo some wear and tear (drawers) and/or undergo temperature changes, I’d recommend a filler that was made for wood.

  46. K LE on September 23, 2023 at 8:55 pm

Thanks for this. I was going to use those iron on edge veneers. Will the spackle hold up in the long run once painted?
