Using a fence NEVER works for me. I always need to "rotate" the body of the saw to keep the bade on the line. Why is that?

*Works great. For the price this thing is awesome **MyBest.Tools** Rips through plywood no problem. The quick release mechanism to put in blades is great too – very fast and secure.*

Could I ask what size bar clamps you’re using?

At last, something useful! I’m working on a project and it’s tiring to cut a whole plyboard to get the desired piece doing the manual thing. Just got a jigsaw and my cuts are terrifying… After few tries, I just went back doing the rows… I’ll definitely do this next time.

P.S. This video is really helpful, short and simple. KUDOS!

Hi, tried above method but my blade keeps moving to the left. I’ve slowed cut speed, turned oscillation on, off and settings between, I’ve fed blade threw wood slowly (or in current case mdf so its not even a grain issue) , tried new blades with low and high tpi but still blade turns/veers to the left. the blade is square to the shoe and the material is flat. I’ve tried using guide clamps and pieces of straight edge wood. No exaggeration to say I feel like binning the lot and taking up (insert activity here that does not require straight lines) ! Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for this. I need to reduce the width of a laminate flooring board longways, and this seems like the best way to get an accurate without going out and buying a table saw, lol.

Could a good jigsaw substitute for a table saw and a bandsaw in my workshop?

nice video full of useful content – no waffle. You kept it simple!

  27. Autotech1 on August 30, 2022 at 1:31 am

Every jig saw I’ve ever owned cuts a bevel when I want a 90° cut, no matter how slow I make the cut and even when using a straight edge like you show.

  28. Gray on August 30, 2022 at 1:33 am

Great tip!! I don’t know why I didn’t think of using a fence. All my "straight" lines i’ve traced with a pencil have come out curvy. Definitely using this tip in the future

Your cutted piece is to narrow! You have forgoten to add the thickness of the blade!

  32. Rebecca on August 30, 2022 at 1:34 am

Simple but brilliant tip! I’ve watched so many videos on making straight rip cuts with a jigsaw, and while most of them are excellent, they are also not geared for beginners like me, who just want to make a quick straight cut, without going into making new shoes for the saw, or complex fences and tables for the tool itself. This two minute video helped me make my cuts super straight, and by placing some tape on the surface of my MDF, I was also able to make a super clean cut. I was also able to cut some sample beveled edges that turned out great. Thank you so much for sharing this. You’ve just gained another subscriber. 🙏😊

  33. Journeyman Traveller on August 30, 2022 at 1:34 am

Good to know this can be done!

  34. Mike Soda on August 30, 2022 at 1:35 am

How do you find such a straight piece of wood for a fence though? Even though Lowes is better than Home Depot in that regard they’re never perfect, still warped.

  35. 1 1 on August 30, 2022 at 1:36 am

    Excellent thank you

  36. Raico Rosenberg on August 30, 2022 at 1:37 am

I have the same Bosch GST-135-BCE Jigsaw and no matter what, a straight line is extremely tricky to get, even with a guide. This model has added clamps to keep the blade from wandering but still its super tricky

  37. 85DODGELANCER on August 30, 2022 at 1:38 am

Is there a jig saw with a 4" stroke length?

  38. gbwildlife uk on August 30, 2022 at 1:39 am

This video is for cutting straight. Every jig saw I’ve owned has never caught a square edge regardless of adjustment! They’re crap.

  39. Randy Randerson on August 30, 2022 at 1:41 am

    great technique, thanks

  40. Luke Tillotson on August 30, 2022 at 1:43 am

My absolute least favorite tool in the shop (right behind the scroll saw) is the jigsaw, but honestly never thought of using it in this fashion, move over circular saw!

  41. xl on August 30, 2022 at 1:44 am

the blade will deflect to follow the path of least resistance.
The edge is never square with a jigsaw.

  42. Olivier Lopez Ch on August 30, 2022 at 1:44 am

In summary: The reason the cut is not straight is because we use blades that are too thin, and not made for straight cuts

  43. Jim Allmon on August 30, 2022 at 1:45 am

    Good tip. Thank you.
