How to Model a Workbench in Sketchup // Woodworking

Welcome back to sketchup 101. Today is a great beginner/intermediate build. If you’ve never used sketchup before..here’s a good place to start.

If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to keep up with them, and don’t forget to check out the actual build video for the workbench: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=gM3oCXcyxoA

I know this video is older but where exactly are you typing the numbers like the measurements so the program makes it in scale for you? I don’t see where your typed it, example when you typed the 72 inches for the length of the table I might have missed it everytime but that confuses me

The problem with tutorials for software is the tutorials are totally obsolete after 6 to 12 months. Yet they remain on Youtube.

  8. Randall Carter on June 12, 2022 at 8:47 pm

  9. _c_d_c on June 12, 2022 at 8:48 pm

Question. How do you then print out the dimensions here for when you actually come to make this in real life?

  10. Egor Biletskiy on June 12, 2022 at 8:49 pm

I prefer to build with Woodprix plans.

    Good video.

These legs are a very good idea! Most workbenches you can only make if you already have a workbench to work on. But this is just a case of sawing planks to correct lengths. Simple but ingenious!

  24. Jeffrey Cunningtown on June 12, 2022 at 9:00 pm

I think you can do it yourself, just watch and learn from Woodglut.

Would you say sketchup is better suited for woodworking? I’ve been using fusion 360 but might consider switching over if there are more built in functions for woodworking sort of things.

  34. AndyPutt1 on June 12, 2022 at 9:16 pm

Give me Solidworks over this anyday. The whole thing would be finished before this was halfway through, Really seems like a pain.

  35. Xhio on June 12, 2022 at 9:16 pm

Not sure why I’m watching this when I have 13 years Sketchup experience 😂😂

  36. Miguel or Mike on June 12, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Thanks for the video – But, you were too fast for me – I’ll watch again at a slower speed if I can.

  37. tony rivera on June 12, 2022 at 9:21 pm

He sounds slobbered drunk if you change the playback speed down to 50%!! LOL!

  38. K M on June 12, 2022 at 9:22 pm

too fast. teaching is a slow art.

  39. Darlin Brady-Caro on June 12, 2022 at 9:22 pm

Love the video and actually made the sketch up right along with you. For the most part I followed your directions. Now I need to learn how to do a parts list.

  40. Kenneth Kassabian on June 12, 2022 at 9:22 pm

Excellent video. Very helpful where others make things very complex.

  41. jenonen on June 12, 2022 at 9:24 pm

When I click one of the legs to make it a component, it selects multiple legs. How do I disconnect those pieces from each other? Not sure what I did wrong but there doesn’t seem to be a way to keep the legs independent from one another.

  42. Warder McKenzie on June 12, 2022 at 9:26 pm

You Never ever mention the length of the long stretchers or the shorter long stretcher…

Do you love woodworking? Try the Woodglut plans.

  44. Michel Andreo on June 12, 2022 at 9:27 pm

  48. Shanna Heckler on June 12, 2022 at 9:34 pm

I think you should visit the Woodglut website if you want to do it yourself.

  49. EZEvans1 on June 12, 2022 at 9:35 pm

Really great job. you go fast, but are so clear that it is easy to pause and unpause to complete this even with no experience. Also you are the only one doing this on a Mac that I have seen and it is a big deal in terms of compatibility.

It’s good to see the woodprix has new Instructions to save my money and energy to build it.
