Step 1: What is a jointer?
Understand what a jointer is: a machine for leveling off pieces of rough wood.
Step 2: Locate the high corners
Determine the high corners of the planks and mark them–these are the points where you will apply the most pressure to level them out.
Tip
Use a push pad to apply pressure to the front of the plank and a push stick to apply pressure to the back and to guide the plank along.
Step 3: Checking the height difference
Before cutting, make sure the difference between the two table heights is where you want it. Also, the fence should be at 90 degrees. Lock all adjustments in place. Repeat the same process with the edges and use an engineer’s square to ensure levelness.
You are a natural at this.
Just restored a 1950’s Craftsman jointer and learned a lot from your video. Totally new to this tool so your vid was a tremendous help. Thanks!
I made it myself. Just go to woodprix webpage if you’d like do the same
no hearing protection 😢
Good video. Thanks
Why weren’t you wearing your mop gear and gas mask? Long sleeve shirt…oh my! You should have your head shaved too. All of that wood behind you needed to be clearly marked and secured with 3000 lb ratchet straps. I also noticed you weren’t wearing your steel toed Red Wing boots. Your shop looks very dangerous! Im surprised you are still alive. What are you, like some sort of cat with 9 lives?
Great video! Sounds like those blades are a little dull though?
So you said you would go to the planer after the jointer, is there a reason you couldn’t just do both sides on the jointer?
What do you do if (for example) if you’re using a 6” jointer but your board exceeds 6”… love all your videos!
What happen with your safety cover?
So it’s basically a huge power hand planer upside down right.
If you want to make your own woodworking yourself just look for woodprix website. There is all you need to make it 🙂
Perfect info for me – you’re an excellent teacher!
Great explanation.
FINALLY a video that shows the finer points that I was looking for. This 6min video was more informative than ones I have seen that are 20+ minutes long.
Robyn where’s your eye protection???
Other than that, great video, very informative
Thanks for the good adjusting tips. I am just looking for a jointer to take the bow out of some narrow boards I want to use for guitar necks. I think this will work out nicely.
✂✂✂✂✂
What model and make is that jointer? Really liked the trigger feature to lower infeed table
I love the mixture of good and bad info.
*I’ve never seen a clear easy to-use manual for building a shed as this woodwork plan [Check Details== **https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/103531735360478463960/103531735360478463960/posts/WzWHik9ojPo** ]. Hardly would you ever get lost while working with this woodwork plan. It is the best stuff for woodworkers and shed designers.*
I was using woodprix instructions to make it and I did it already 🙂
I enjoy watching your videos. I just started making projects out of pallet wood for my chalk paint classes. Currently we use just a hand sander and jigsaw. We are looking for a faster way to get the wood clean but keep the rustic look. Do you have any advice for what tools I need? I’ve looked into a hand planer, joiner, a belt sander (quite expensive), and an electric thickness planer. Currently we are only using pallet wood because we love the rustic look. Would love your advice as you seek very knowledgeable and experienced!
Nice job Thanks don’t worry too much about the safety patrol but should wear glasses I’m 60 my father was a cabinet maker I was probably 10 when I first used a jointer two of my uncles lost part of their finger on a jointer because no push sticks
hello.I made a safety guide after watching your video. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
Why is it after I run a board on a jointer, one side is higher than the other if ran through like this boards orientation is. The jointed side “maybe” flat, is that why you run it through a planer afterwards? Make sense? Thanks
I agree with the previous comment. You should stress that the jointer is the most dangerous machine in the shop; there is no room for any mistakes.
Go to woodprix if you’d like to build it yourself.
I made it myself. Just go to woodprix webpage if you’d like do the same
Her breathing is making hard for me to breathe lol
Great instructor! Thank you.
I’m sure you will find good solutions for all your ideas on the Woodprix website.
Very nicely done….very professional and helpful!
thank you so much!
Im using WoodPriX instructions to make it and I do it already 🙂
I made it too few weeks ago. Want to know how ? just look for Woodglut.
thank you for explaining the fundamentals to the likes of I, who has experienced nought but the assumption of prior knowledge.
Just google Woodglut and make some dust.
I’m sure you can find awesome woodworking plans on woodprix website
Good process video. As a woodworking teacher, there are a couple of safety concerns. Safety glasses are a minimum and a machine should never be used if the blade guard does not return to the fence and cover the blade when not in use. Jointer blades don’t have brakes and the blade will continue to spin for a while after the machine is shut down.
safety glasses
Thanks so much 🤗
Why can’t you cut the last face on the jointer? Why the table saw?
Do the last face on the table saw, got it
Sometimes we maybe obtain something defected or spoil wood and want it make invisible to customer, I want massing the colour with wood, how can do this?
I am sure that you will find good way to make it on woodprix Webpage.
Model of jointer??
She just performed a VERY unsafe operation. She should have been wearing safety glasses. Otherwise very good.
Finally a good explanation of a jointer. As a beginner this video is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for it!
I’m sure the best instruction is on woodprix website.
