Nicely done J! That is one way of planning a board flat. Great job…. 👍👍

We get board when things are too plane. Flat Stuff is boring. Curves however, can twist things up.
    J/K 😂😂
    Great video as always !!

Seems like a lot of unnecessary steps to take when you have a jointer and thickness planer in the shop.

  9. Michael Carter on July 3, 2022 at 9:52 pm

Is this project a reflection of the rising lumber prices, that it’s worth spending an hour or more flattening an old 2×6. 😄

I like the way you did it. The only thing I would’ve done differently is to trim the 2 side boards on the table saw once they are attached to the warped lumber. Then whichever method you want to use for planing will work. Plane one side then flip.

Dude with really expensive tools is able to flatten lumber….

  18. BIG SEXY on July 3, 2022 at 9:58 pm

All you had to do is put it outside, clamp it down and let the weather hit it for a few hours.

  19. John Lambert on July 3, 2022 at 9:58 pm

I flatten 2×4 and 2×6 all the time by simply jointing them, if you have a jointer why not just use it?

  20. David Hoyt on July 3, 2022 at 9:58 pm

Well done sir. Not easy to do that but job well done!

  21. johnny on July 3, 2022 at 9:58 pm

oh my god, staples… Ive been just using really short screws to fix rough lumber to a straight edge… this will save me so much time

  22. Gall ANONIM on July 3, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Awesome as usual! I’m curious how much material You have to remove to get it flat?

  23. Shoto Todoroki on July 3, 2022 at 10:00 pm

    before : 2×6
    after : 1×3

Great way to beat the lumber prices of now

  27. oxcart19 on July 3, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Great idea! This is helpful. Did you notice if the board started to twist again, if you didn’t use it in a project right away?

  28. Trung Vu on July 3, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Good way to do it sir

  30. goptools on July 3, 2022 at 10:07 pm

    Hi Mr. J,
That is a handy tip. I wonder if you could use the electric hand plane and a sled, like you showed in an earlier video, to flatten the board. It would be slower but it seems like it should be possible. Thanks for the video!

Это делается гораздо проще. Японцы, иногда, доводят процесс до абсурда!

  32. majordendrocopos on July 3, 2022 at 10:10 pm

You have an excellent surface planer, a machine specifically designed to plane uneven or twisted timber flat. A little practice using it properly is all you need.

  33. Handy Andy on July 3, 2022 at 10:13 pm

nice but you really need a push block for that planer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Просто Толсто on July 3, 2022 at 10:15 pm

То есть у человека изначально есть фуганок, но он зачем то устраивает танцы с бубнами и тратит время и портит дополнительно материал?

  35. Enry Raleight on July 3, 2022 at 10:16 pm

    Excellent work. Congratulations

  36. Joe smith on July 3, 2022 at 10:17 pm

I don’t understand this at all. Why all the dick’en around. You have a jointer……use it!

  37. manofausagain on July 3, 2022 at 10:18 pm

I wrap around middle of board 3 times (depending how much it’s out but generally) with masking tape. Start at jointer from the middle of the board and do both ends with tape just on outfeed table. This will take out high spots on each end. Then joint as normal, using eye down edge of board to sight for straightness. It’s a skill, it does take practice, but once mastered, alot quicker then using shims and straight edge guides etc..

  38. Валерий Доброгаев on July 3, 2022 at 10:19 pm

С такими станками можно черта сделать, а тут доску выровнял..

  39. Лена Волошина on July 3, 2022 at 10:19 pm

Каким образом эти боковые доски, которые ниже уровня основной доски, помогли ее выровнять ?

  41. Alpha Scorpii on July 3, 2022 at 10:20 pm

Your French translations are hilarious ! Here, I learn how to have a "perfect flat" translated in the equivalent of a "perfect apartment". I mean, it’s useful, I know that I just need 2 dimensional furnitures, easy to make.
Anyway great job ans nice video.

  42. Jlm Foy on July 3, 2022 at 10:23 pm

Or you could use a scrub plane and a jack plane.😀. Regards Jim UK.

  43. Stan Brackhage on July 3, 2022 at 10:23 pm

and this is why I always put my warped lumber where it belongs. In the burn pile;)

  44. michael hines on July 3, 2022 at 10:23 pm

Why all the fuss you have a nice jointer. Just face joint one side. Then joint one edge. After that run thru thickness planer and cut final edge on table saw.

  45. Сигизмунд Колупаев on July 3, 2022 at 10:25 pm

Б..ть, у него все это время был фуганок!!!

  46. Mark Jarman on July 3, 2022 at 10:25 pm

Ignore the negative comments. Woodworking is about finding your way. If that mean experiment work then fine. We can’t all be such no it all’s

  47. August West on July 3, 2022 at 10:27 pm

I don’t think you understand how a jointer works. There’s no need for all the extra steps.
    Really odd video

. https://youtu.be/S9DLEEwZqzg just a video edit with music But a SPECIAL THANKS to James Jani and Jake Tran for their wealth of information. It really heIped me this past three years still practice to talk as well as them on my videos but I will upload videos of my voiceovers very soon! PEACE!!! ✌

All safe methods. I’ve always used a sled.
I must ask…..are you employed in the medical field or engineering? You are so precise in how you set down and arrange work pieces after a milling process with such a gentle touch as well. I think its kinda cool.
