Brilliant! I have a project coming up in which I will need to build a number of shelves for my cats to hop around on (longer story there…) and I’ve wanted to use floating shelves for this purpose. Does your design likely support 10-15 lbs per shelf?

  11. James Mobley on November 23, 2022 at 5:14 am

Thanks to your video, I was able to put a hanging shelf in my bathroom. I’m certainly not a carpenter, but it looks like a carpenter did the work. You rock!

  14. Robert Valdez on November 23, 2022 at 5:17 am

would this work with a 2X10 or 2X12? I would assume you would go deeper with the dowel.

  15. Junau Louis-Jean on November 23, 2022 at 5:19 am

Simplest and best floating video by far. Will not take me more than 30 minutes from start to finish.

How much weight can these shelves hold? I want to do one thats about 5 feet long for liquor bottles. They get heavy in volume.

  30. Net Worker on November 23, 2022 at 5:40 am

Great instructions. I ran into a problem with one of my shelves. When I ripped the 1 1/2 " side off using a table saw, the 1 1/2 piece warped. It bows out in the middle not allowing it to fit snug against the other board. The other shelf came out fine from the same board. Not sure how to handle that vs getting another board and trying again. Thoughts?

I am planning on putting 2m long floating shelves in my studio. Do you think this technique would support the weight?? The shelves are not going to be overfilled with things!

  33. KADTMV on November 23, 2022 at 5:42 am

Great video, I’m using a 2×10 same size length. Would you recommend lengthening the dowels to make up for it?

  34. Jack Stone on November 23, 2022 at 5:44 am

Or just go to the shop and buy these for 20 bucks in 5 minutes and save 5 days of your time!

  35. Fabian Salinas on November 23, 2022 at 5:46 am

Two weekends and $120 in and still no shelves for me. I’m turning into a living "nailed it" meme.

  45. paxhix on November 23, 2022 at 5:55 am

Best video I have ever seen on simple floating shelves. Awesome thank you

  46. Ewelina Zagórska on November 23, 2022 at 5:56 am

This is a really smart solution and seems not to be very complicated. I am an absolute beginner but I may give it a try! Thank you!

  47. Kaytie A on November 23, 2022 at 5:57 am

Do you think the dowels are long enough? To support the entire Shelf? I plan to use these shells in the kitchen and I noticed that if you bought the brackets online that the rods are very long
