Low Cost High Profit – Small Projects That Sell – Make Money Woodworking

Low Cost High Profit – Small Projects That Sell – Make Money Woodworking

Grow your woodworking business with “smalls”! Often times smaller items are looked over by new builders because they are looking for that build that will bring in a nice profit. In this video, I discuss the power of smalls and how to think outside of the box. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I’ll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with very little cost of goods sold!

And yes… In one of these examples, I made $1000 in a day by having pre-orders and knocking it out in a day! Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let’s change that.

Do you know if pressure treated 4×4 would be OK for coasters, or not recommended?

You got me scratching my head – How’d he think of that? Just when I thought you couldn’t get any better, you go and pull out the squirrel table. Well, I’ll be darned – That’s some clever engineering right dur. I’m hooked!

I love those wall art crosses at the beginning. Do you sell the plans on your Etsy site?

  26. W.J.R. Halyn on May 7, 2022 at 7:24 pm

    All great stuff and ideas!
One thing you’re NOT telling is exactly WHERE is the best place(s) to SELL the stuff… some web thing like Etsy, or at a flea market, or off a counter on your front lawn or ????
A few hints WHERE your most productive sales are occurring would be a massive help!

  27. Shannon Hawkins on May 7, 2022 at 7:25 pm

Those squirrel tables look like picnic tables for an American Girl Doll! You could sell them for $50 easy!

  29. Angie Williams on May 7, 2022 at 7:27 pm

I think I’ve watched this before. But I came back to it. I’m a scrap hoarder. When I first started out I had zero money to invest in material. I bought a used miter saw and sander for $50 from a family member that gave me a bunch of already disassembled pallet wood to get me started. I WAS HOOKED!!! In the beginning I solely used free materials. Pallets. Scraps from job sites. Anything free I could get. I think being resource poor made me very frugal so I would never throw anything away. Now… 10 years later I have a full shop of all the tools I ever wanted. While I do purchase materials now…. I STILL have all those scraps. I can’t help myself. I just went to an auction last wee where I bought a full stack of off cut lumber that included a 2×6 that was 10’ long, and lots of 1x12s that were like 3-4” long…… FOR FOUR DOLLARS!!!!. I bought an assembled bench made out of 3/4 nice plywood for $2. Actually…. There were 4 and I bought them all. I’ve already disassembled 2 and yielded the equivalence of 3 4×8 sheets. The tops and bottoms of each suit were 2’x8’. I use ply in my furniture builds and always paint anyways. So it was so perfect. I feel like a kid at Christmas still. But I gotta start getting rid of the small scraps. And I came here for inspiration. I definitely found it. Thanks

Insane… I’ve been struggling with having adhd, just been diagnosed at 38. We are nuerodivergent…. So when you said divergent it’s all clicked… and this is why I’ve been able to see furniture that someone would throw away, as something that can be reimagined beautifully. My new theme word is divergent ❤️

Figures if you assign yourself an hourly wage similar to your day job, even a weekend project can be priced in the order of hundreds of dollars. Labor and tool wear are valuable things.

  32. Seamus Murphy on May 7, 2022 at 7:30 pm

I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. I’m a retired custom home builder. Now I make high end cutting boards and charcuterie boards and such. Been trying to do smaller crafts for pop ups
And you have given me plenty of food for thought. Thank you

  41. Peter Morello on May 7, 2022 at 7:50 pm

I see what your saying but the items you make wouldn’t sell too well in Australia. Especially not a squirrel table….. what do you even use it for??
