Sorry my friend, yes, it is simple. But, I don’t think the structure is sturdy.

So cool! My first home is old so i took apart the back deck and can reuse the 2x4x16s for these with turf grass instead of expensive landscaping love it

Newbie when it comes to woodworking projects. Forgive my ignorance but I have 2 questions: 1) Need to drill a pilot hole? When is that recommended? 2) Best to use a drill or an impact driver for this? What’s the rule of thumb for when to use which? Thanks! Keep the videos coming!

This is exactly what I was looking for!! I don’t know much about woodworking, but you made me feel a little more confident in making a bench. Thank you so much!

Not really 10$ with the price of lumber right now… but still cheap to make for fun!

I live in the UK and I made one of these out of scrap timber from previous projects, they were not all of them were same width. However , with an electric plane this was easily sorted. To buy the sawn treated timber still cost £20 roughly 30 dollars. Tip; make sure the timber you buy is straight and not twisted !!!

2x4x8’s are slightly higher in Hawaii at $7.25 a piece.

A very good design for a bench and useful video. I just have a couple of questions, at 0:16 you state the the wood depth is 12", at 0:28 you say the boards are 2" thick. Then at 0:36 you ask us to have 4 pieces 9" long. So two 2" pieces and a 9" piece is 13" in total, yet you said at 0:16 it was 12" – am I missing something, or is there just an obvious mistake? Also the height you state is 16.25", but it is made up of a 14.75" and the 2" thickness piece on top – that makes it 16.75" am I right? Please let me know if I’m missing something obvious before I try this out. Thanks in advance.

I’m a beginner and I appreciate you guys making it easy for us to build! I’m in the process of building this right now 😀

  26. kent renz on June 22, 2023 at 1:48 pm

Took me less than 45 minutes. Used three 2×4"s which I had on hand because I wanted 36" instead of 32" so it would be less cozy. Used a pneumatic framer instead of drill driver and ring shank nails. Very satisfied. Thanks.

  27. Adrift in Midgard on June 22, 2023 at 1:48 pm

    I’m making this today!

*update* I made it and I love it. Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial. I added two extra 32" pieces to the bottom for a second shelf.

I had to sub in 2x6s for the seat boards. I didn’t have any decent 2x4s.

Very nice bench! Easy and awesome

  36. Devon Day on June 22, 2023 at 2:03 pm

Thanks for the great tutorial. I made two of these out of pressured-treated 2 X 4s. They were 44” long and 16 1/2 inches wide. I built them to hold giant planters that were 20” wide and 16” tall. It took 7 8’ boards but I was able to cut and assemble them 5 hours. I’m going to seal them with an outdoor stain. I am very happy with your practical design. Lumber prices in California are still sky-high. I had the screws and the strain. For lumber alone, this bench with four top pieces to accommodate the big pots, cost $105 for two benches. For me it was worth it. I closed my eyes at the Big Box store when I checked out. I guessed it would be over a hundred. It is our new reality. I could never have bought these sturdy benches for $52.50 each. Thanks again for the great plan. Cheers!

I’ve been looking for a bench for my tiny bathroom to sit on yet slide my short laundry under! Omg I could make this accommodate changing the dimensions, length and height! Hopefully somewhere can cut the pieces for me. Great video! Thanks.

this is great for the beginner/novice woodworker…i viewed another DIY bench making and he used 6×6 cedar…really?…cost of a 4×4 cedar post already cost $30 at lowes…this DIY is so much better…thank you…

  48. Juan Alvarez on June 22, 2023 at 2:10 pm

Great instructional video, but is the stain you used water resistant for outside use of the bench? Thanks.

  49. Devon Day on June 22, 2023 at 2:17 pm

I made two 44” X 16 3/4” benches for my giant 20” x 16” tall garden pots. I chose to use pressure treated lumber. With the extra top piece, I needed 7, 8’ pieces of lumber. Each bench came in at $52.50. I had screws, outdoor Tightbond, and outdoor stain-sealer for the project already. Your plans were perfect. I did appreciate having a Framer’s square to square up the legs. There is no way I could buy these benches for the amount I spent on them. Lumber costs have gone nuts. I knew it was going to be over a hundred dollars to build these but I was glad I went with your design. It saved a lot of lumber. Thanks again. Cheers!
