Love it steve. Seems the spray adhesive complicates things a bit. Something I do for inlays is to use carbon paper. They still make it! Office depot is where I get it. I mark some x’s in the corners to have a reference then trace the lines on the wood with the carbon paper. On light woods the line is dark enough to use as is, just blow your dust away instead of wiping it; but on darker woods it’s no pain to re trace your carbon paper lines(on the wood) with a pencil.
Awesome!!! Like marquetry, but cooler…

Maybe the facial features could be done with a wood burner…………
Think from the point of view of someone searching for what you are offering.
Hi steve,
A not-so-related question:
I’m really interested in woodworking and have been an enthusiastic garage woodworker for about 5 or so years now. I have been thinking about starting to upload stuff to YouTube, can you give me some advice… especially on how to tag my videos so they can be found easily– looks like you have that down.
thanks a lot
-Liam
Six fingered hand?
That scarecrow is a polydactyl. =)
hey how r u, thanks for video I am now trying to make my first segmentation art piece I’m doing an eagle , im glad u mentioned the coloring book idea because I don’t wanna go out and buy a bunch of templates and different wood pieces until I know I’m going to do more of these, I will stain or paint mine, but my main question is the type of wood used, not if its pine or cedar but dimensions, thickness , did u use plywood, or a 1 x 6 , all I currently have on hand is 2 x 4 and 1 x 4 , im using scroll saw just need advice on a few other board sizes on a small budget say 20 $ worth wood, I will also need the spray adhesive I c
Woodkestein!
Steve, I have a project I want to make soon, and I thought it might be a fun/useful and easy project for your show. A heat deflector for a furnace vent. I plan to just make two 1/4 circles from 3/4 stock, and insert magnets in the bases. The curved back will either be made of curvy plywood (from where I work), or glued-up layers of veneer (easy to do). There are a ton of other options/ideas. Thin slats, octagon, etc.
looks awesome Steve. good project 🙂
uare rapidly becoming my idol xx love it thank you
Just came across this old video. What a terrific little project!
Just an idea, Why not try wood burning for the eyes and mouth?
You should have used googly eyes
I see a lot of videos where they say to use shipping tape on top of the glued paper , but it always turns into a big mess for me. Even the spray on glue gives me a hard time, could it be the Elmer’s brand isn’t as super sticky ? One more question , I have a cheaper more generic scroll saw , will that make a big difference if I try to make one of these ?
He has 6 fingers, he must be the one who killed Inigo Montoya’s Father,
kool!
u shouldve put googly eyes
Great Video! You make such awesome videos, and I am so impressed with your wood working skills. I was actually trying to figure out how I could make a Tiger Pattern, trace it onto a tiger maple, and then make a custom orange with the kit.
Thank you again Steve…
lol.six fingers on the scarecrow’s hand. great vid though! keep at it!
I will go up to this six finger man and say:
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die."
nice men
AAAAAAHHHHHHhhh!!!!!!! scarry brite neon boarder at the end could of warned us about that…I think I’m having a seizure….oh wait I’m good it went away..
great job keep it up
Back in Canada in the 80s, I had a scroll saw, I made wooden puzzles and sold a few and I loved making them. I think this scarecrow is gorgeous! I am fast becoming a fan with your shop. I have a small bandsaw, and a table saw… But no shop 😭 my bandsaw sits on my counter in the kitchen and I take it out only on nice days. Someday ill have a shop… 🤞🤞 Love your channel
While I don’t see myself trying intarsia, I love the use of the sand bag for clamping pressure on the glue up! Thanks for the time you dedicate to these videos.
I just want to give you a giant high five.
You’ve really inspired me to the craft 🙂
Great job that really looks great
He has the best clamping ideas
Hi there ole fella prettu darn good I say what !
I saw a picture a guy , done , did ,made, using a soldering iron to lightly burn a piece of plywood [it was on old shire horse ploughing a field of corn ,smart] you maybe do that for the face features,
that all for noo,
Graeme.
The one I plan to make will be painted the same colour as my floors. I think it will be much better than the cheap plastic ones you can buy in stores.
I’ve heard you say you don’t use your scroll saw much, but man what a gem. Modern saws couldn’t hold a candle to yours. The weight and true up and down action of yours means no vibration and a very true cut. I would love to have such a beast. I would do a few mods to it (quick blade clamps and a variable speed dc motor-kbic controller…foot control, etc.), and have the best ss money could buy! Great Video! I’ve just finished my 1st intarsia project also so I can relate.
Ahw man just read through the comments, someone beat me to the princess bride comment. Looks really good Steve, keep up the good work.
Very good job, where in the heck do you get all of your ideas, your brain must be going a mile a minute
I use a heat gun, to remove the pattern, I love doing Intarsia, wish I had a better sanding setup.
I thought you did a great job… Only subbed your channel for around 2 weeks. Almost viewed all your videos. So only way to solve my problem is you need to make 2 or 3 videos a week… lol… Keep up the great job you do…
Hey Steve, I have a idea for your possible next project. I don’t know if you’re a hockey fan at all but if you have old hockey sticks you can make a cool lawn chair out of it and I think it would be cool to see you make one and it a nice project
For the paint nazis out there, you could use a wood burner or soldering iron tip. Since you went with black anyway, it would have turned out the exact same, you would just need aloe for the burns on your fingers!
This would be a fun puzzle for kids.
If you don’t want to use paint you can always wood burn the features. Still keeps it in wood.
Very cool!
verry good my friend
It looks great. I’ll have to try that.
Que tal Steve, muy buen video, te felicito. te paces al Dr. House cuando no te rasuras, hehe
Nice work again Steve. Ole 11 fingers looks great! I was good to see the intarsia process.
oh thanks!!! i made the mistake of showing my wife the finished product and guess who wants one!!! maybe its time i got a scrollsaw as it did look like a fun project. thanks for sharing it
6 fingered hands what?
considering that was your first attempt, i think you done a bloody good job, looks wonderful. Would make a great puzzle for kids.
Well… this would be a fun project for hand tool purists…. *fuddles around looking for a coping saw*
