I was feeling very overwhelmed about not being able to do things perfectly (just saw wood for the first time yesterday) and this video made me very happy to understand that everything is a process. All things come with practice

06:45 "… would you like me to drill that hole for you, babe? …" – well we can make a lot of jokes on this line, can’t we?

Squiggly lines is a nice trick! Thanks for making this video – for anyone who is new to wood working, this is motivating!

    Awesome video!!
There is no excuse for us woodworking guys not to have a bench by our own hands. Me included😔😔😔. Good job maam!!!

My home went up in smoke due to a wildfire last August and my workbench and all my tools acquired over the past 40 years with it.
Now I’m beginning anew and decided I’d try building a bench “without a bench” and Sarah has shown me how to transition out of “novice”…
Please, please, post the legs portion soon.

accreting), and a body with lots of mileage.

Awesome vid. Love the mom joke. Novice no vise….ok now I get it.😁😁😁

  19. Bryan E Smith on October 4, 2023 at 9:02 pm

Your mistake is that you should have started her off with some wooden shoes.

  20. Daniel R on October 4, 2023 at 9:04 pm

What a terrific video, fair play for a beginner to go for it while
Being filmed. Well done Sara, really great job

  21. Ian on October 4, 2023 at 9:04 pm

Cool video, cool project. I am however appalled seeing those individually plastic wrapped boards. I would never buy from a supplier who produces so much unneeded waste. Do they not realise that plastic waste is create ecological disasters in the sea and on land? The stuff is everywhere, they are even finding traces in chicken eggs. It’s way beyond time for all of us to act responsibly… for future generations if not for ourselves.

  22. Julia Child on October 4, 2023 at 9:05 pm

I know that this is a starter bench and poplar is cheap, but isn’t it a bit weak for a workbench top?

  23. kvdgadj on October 4, 2023 at 9:06 pm

How many people will it take to move the bench?

  24. Ramon Tristani on October 4, 2023 at 9:06 pm

Y’all just crack me up! 🤣

  25. RADCOMJ1 on October 4, 2023 at 9:07 pm

  26. Dusty King on October 4, 2023 at 9:10 pm

Wow. This is SO GREAT!! I don’t have a lot of money or tools or space and this is such great way to get a work space!!! Aaaaaa!! So excited!!

  27. Uriel-Heaven’s Guardian on October 4, 2023 at 9:11 pm

Thank you for the inspiration!!!! Your wife did an awesome job sir!!!! If im not mistaken that’s poplar right?
What was the cost of that lumber if I may ask.

  28. G. Ralph Kuntz, MD on October 4, 2023 at 9:14 pm

You got the deluxe big-box lumber. I think mine must be second hand since it never comes wrapped. 🙂

  29. Gaylan Bishop on October 4, 2023 at 9:14 pm

What a lovely family ❤ God bless you

  30. HeartPumper on October 4, 2023 at 9:15 pm

    Love you both 😎.
Btw, really not so many women on this georgous planet can say: "I’ve build my own workbench!!" . Congrats Sarah, I’m freakin bloody jealous (didn’t made my own yet – and I’m almost 50yo male in quite gelatizined state 😆).
And that moment at 9:00 😆🙌😍.

  31. Cerberus on October 4, 2023 at 9:16 pm

I admire her for putting herself on the Spot like that. Subscribed.

  32. Nick Hristov on October 4, 2023 at 9:17 pm

I love it. Only piece of advice from a novice: it’s easier to start sawing with the front of the saw, because the angle of the teeth is less aggressive

  33. Radman SA on October 4, 2023 at 9:20 pm

Always support the piece you cutting off so that it does not break off the corner , good work, only using hand tools, old school 👍

  34. Delia Guzman on October 4, 2023 at 9:22 pm

Starting the saw IS the stressful part!

  35. Ilse Hattingh on October 4, 2023 at 9:22 pm

    Sarah you’re my hero.

  36. runs naked through the forest on October 4, 2023 at 9:22 pm

wtf? why is the wood wrapped in plastic? to keep it at low moisture levels maybe but anyway it’s a waste, typical selfish type of thing to do (talking about the provider not you! 😉 )

  37. W4ff133z on October 4, 2023 at 9:24 pm

Making a bench would probably cost around 300 to make around here it seems, rip

  38. Dmitrii Fedotov on October 4, 2023 at 9:25 pm

it’s really cool video. Hope you got as much fun recording it as i got when watch it =)

After this you going to have muscles 💪

  47. David on October 4, 2023 at 9:35 pm

It’s always fun to see Sarah in your videos. She’s a real trooper. Looking forward to this series. I can do very precise power tool work but very much still learning with hand tools and a traditional woodworking bench is on my "to do" list. Mine only comes to the shop when I need help with something large and heavy or to see if I’m still alive.

  48. RMC on October 4, 2023 at 9:35 pm
