Not flashy but thats what I like about it. You have a lot of vision for how the process goes from log to finished product. A very functional board. I look forward to your next project

that’s beautiful! I am just getting into woodworking. I need to make some of the sled/jigs, etc you’ve demonstrated.

Excellent video with lots of great ideas like the router planing jig and others. But my understanding is that you must wet the cutting board with water and sand a couple of times to eliminate a rough surface which will happen the first time you clean the board with water. Otherwise, great video.

You do a fine job getting by with very little in the way of costly equipment. Keep up the fine work!

Beautiful cutting board. Only problem is that spalted wood is toxic and shouldn’t be used on items that will be used for food.

I’m trying watch all your videos (it will take a while lol)… I’m always repeat: the beauti of the craftmenship is that you can make tools to make a tool that makes the task easier and more precised. I feel joy watching you make guids/tools that helped you make this cutting board. Absolutely stuning work- not only the final product, but the way of making it. Cole- I can only say that I’m thruly impressed. And Btw: I’ve never seen such beautiful cutting board- the texture of this lumber is remarkeble. Is this ash wood?

Good morning from SE Louisiana 18 May 21.

  9. Willie Smith on September 30, 2023 at 8:33 pm

Hello. What kind of tree/wood did you use for the cutting board? I know it was tree debris from a storm ….but I would like to know what type of tree/wood you used

  10. Dwayne Lejeune on September 30, 2023 at 8:36 pm

What type of tree? Oak? I also have scrap wood caused from hurricanes Laura & Delta.
On a funny note it may be cheaper for me to purchase tools then buying all the wood to make jigs. Lol

  11. Willie Smith on September 30, 2023 at 8:39 pm

How did you build the sled

  12. Gary Maylon on September 30, 2023 at 8:39 pm

What did you finish your cutting board with so it’s safe for food.

    Beautiful work!

  14. Jason McNabb on September 30, 2023 at 8:42 pm

Project looks great! What kind of wood did you use? You mentioned "logs" in the video but I didn’t hear the variety (just purple heart for the accents). Thanks!

  15. Shane Shipley on September 30, 2023 at 8:44 pm

What kind of wood were the logs?

Sir, your skill set is of a master-craftsman. As well, this is the first video of yours I’ve seen, it was great; inspiring! Can you go into detail on prepping the wood surface and application means/methods of applying the oil finish. For the surface finish will aid in the overall life of the block, correct? (Do’s/Don’t, alternate oil, etc. would be helpful). Some of use may not be able to afford the commercial product oil(s) and need to improve our skill set thorough knowledge transfer.
Oh, the wall organizer is ‘art’, great work! Thanks for sharing, kind regard.

Very good but isn’t that wood too soft

  19. Alex M on September 30, 2023 at 8:48 pm

Am I the only psychopath who truly enjoys sanding 🤣🤪

  20. steeldoughcider on September 30, 2023 at 8:48 pm

That was so cool, and relaxing…. pretty much the same as making knife scales with larger material 😎

  21. Larry Maupin on September 30, 2023 at 8:48 pm

Liked and subbed. Great job and a great video. Thank you!

Very nice job. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.

  23. 山田 on September 30, 2023 at 8:50 pm

Is it necessary to sand the sides before gluing?

  24. Mitchell Alberts on September 30, 2023 at 8:52 pm

Awesome video!! What did you use as a finish?

We recently lumbered a 36" maple, a 36" white ash, and a 32" pecan. After drying, we tried planing with a Rigid (Home Depot) 13" planer with 2 HSS knives https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL . This job was clearly too much for that machine. The pecan was particularly difficult, due to heavy mineral deposits, and a sharp pair of HSS knives would be consumed by a mere 3 boards. We were also having lots of problems from chip bruising, due to poor dust collection. The shavings came off like straw and jammed in the 4" hose.We bought the DW735 simply to be able to run carbide blades, which worked brilliantly for the pecan. However, we found it to be a much, MUCH nicer machine. It was far more rigid than the "Rigid" planer, and far more accurate as well. But what I liked most about it was the dust feed. This machine has its own blower, which shreds the "straw" like shavings as they come off the cutting head and helps boost the shavings into the dust collection system. No more clogs! It’s also nicely sealed so that the internals stay quite clean. This is just a well tempered machine that’s a delight to use. It literally cut the labor in half. Just another example of getting what you pay for.

The algorithm is correct. This video is great

  27. Amy Sue on September 30, 2023 at 8:55 pm

I’m trying to make Cutting Boards out of just one piece of wood also butcher blocks do you have any videos telling me how to do that

  28. Joey Byrne on September 30, 2023 at 8:56 pm

What did you treat the wood with at the end?

  29. The Devil In The Circuit on September 30, 2023 at 8:58 pm

NICE video, and good rundown of the proccess. If you keep the band saw’s blade guide lower (just above the cut), the blade will track more truly through the log.

God bless you brother! That is absolutely beautiful. I pray your channel takes off!

  31. Random WoodGuy on September 30, 2023 at 9:02 pm

Will that not just crack and warp when it dries out ?

  32. Anil and Rita Philip on September 30, 2023 at 9:03 pm

I have a log of hardwood firewood. I want to make a kitchen cutting board; how does one prevent fungi and bacteria growing in it? That is what I would like to know.

  33. inspired by Nature on September 30, 2023 at 9:03 pm

I never knew you could just attach a straight board to a log and cut it perfectly straight 😂 but thats actually pretty sweet lol i just learned alot right there 👌

  34. Marlow P on September 30, 2023 at 9:05 pm

Theres no need to run holes thru your work and risk hitting a screw while cutting. Use painters tape and hot glue, thank me later

  35. Mitch Murrell on September 30, 2023 at 9:05 pm

    You are a farkin genius!

  36. F.S on September 30, 2023 at 9:06 pm

Nice work, I really like it… question, what did you add at the end to finish the surface? is it type of oil? thank you.

What type of wood were those logs?

  43. Alex Clark on September 30, 2023 at 9:14 pm

I love this and just rewatched it. Any updates as to how the cutting board is holding up? I was wondering if working with green wood made it warp/twist over time or if it remained relatively stable?

  44. karthick b on September 30, 2023 at 9:14 pm

This is brilliant. Mind is the most powerful tool. It is evident with it, one able craftsman could create wonders.

You got some beautiful grain patterns in those boards. Looks like spalted quarter sawn white oak. Looks great man.
