Agh! My tinnitus! If your video editing software has some audio tools, look for high pitch spikes and get them out! (Otherwise, great videos, Colin β€” love your stuff!)

Why not use a router table

  6. dch888 on July 1, 2022 at 9:44 pm

Blade gullets should be above the piece being cut, otherwise the sawdust isn’t thrown out properly during the cut. The rule of thumb is to have three gullets just above the piece.

Guess I have to have a table saw to make a simple box.

  8. Jeruel Pizarro on July 1, 2022 at 9:45 pm

Lauan or utility panel has been used in the theatre for the last 40 years–or as long as I can remember to make flats (walls). We use 1/8" or 1/4" sheets on top of a frame constructed out of 1X3s. We call this a TV or Hollywood flat.

How would you do the edges/ dados of the sides if you don’t have a table saw? Would it be just by using a chisel? Or is there a better manual way ? Thanks a lot

  11. Gerry Doyon on July 1, 2022 at 9:48 pm

Nicely done, sir! I think that I’ll make one myself. Thank you very much for the clear instructions!

  12. Chevy Van Travel on July 1, 2022 at 9:48 pm

i am sorry but most people looking for this videos don’t have industrial level cutting machines.

  13. D Marsh on July 1, 2022 at 9:50 pm

Where’s the info on the first dado cut you made, shown at 6:12 in?

I just made 3 boxes before I seen this, I made the box and lid separately, it was a ton work try to match them up perfectly, I’m going to try this next time, it seems way more simple and makes more sense, awesome idea

Hi, did i miss where he explained how to make the cut (the straight) line in each board before he removed the material leaving a dado cut?

  22. J Starr on July 1, 2022 at 10:01 pm

Ok so I’ve been trying to find where you say what lengths you measure the bottom and top/lid

  23. patrick dunn on July 1, 2022 at 10:04 pm

I love the simplicity of that box Colin πŸ‘πŸ‘.

  24. Just Another Day on July 1, 2022 at 10:05 pm

Colin, you never specify what the dado cuts were setβ€”1/2” wide, 1/4” deep?

  25. Mark Bonham on July 1, 2022 at 10:06 pm

    Nice, thanks Colin!

  26. Grayson Mitchell on July 1, 2022 at 10:06 pm

This very method will be the one I use with my son to introduce him to woodworking! It’s simple and uses a bunch of great techniques that are used in so many other projects! 6yr old video and still relevant!

  31. Pedro Lopes on July 1, 2022 at 10:10 pm

Great video…simple but very necessary basic skills. You cannot imagine the trouble I had making a very simple wood box for my daughter today. Nothing was square.
Big and main difficulty??? Making straight cuts with a jigsaw…

I’m gonna build a simple wooden box from scrap wood I found at a construction site. First thing you’ll need is $5000 worth of tools. I still watched and like the video….

  34. karl swanson on July 1, 2022 at 10:12 pm

    That lid idea is genius!!!

Oh god we are making this in school but bigger to store our tools in πŸ™‚

  37. J Starr on July 1, 2022 at 10:16 pm

So hopefully you see this even though it’s been 7 years. I’m doing a box according to these instructions. Thing is when I get to what you do at the 6:50ish mark, I either get three sides to cut fine and the fourth requires me to break off chips and sand it, or two of the sides, usually the shorter ones because my piece of wood dips into the gap of my saw (even though I have the plate over it). Any suggestions?

  38. Honey Moti-Mapupuno on July 1, 2022 at 10:17 pm

thank you for this video sir.. you inspired me….i made my own version of jewelry box, i put some accessories on it… thank you.

  40. Greg Cohane on July 1, 2022 at 10:18 pm

Kind of discouraging to be enthusiastic when one must have a big table saw and cut datos

  41. DN on July 1, 2022 at 10:20 pm

perhaps you could explain " still be using our bar " What bar?

  42. Randy Pontony on July 1, 2022 at 10:20 pm

Woodglut is full of amazing tips. It helped me a lot.

  43. Joe Wilford on July 1, 2022 at 10:26 pm

Excellent video. Was simply looking for an easily made, but purposeful box. Had to scroll through quite a few videos to find one that was useful without watching a ‘carpenter’ build a box using all kinds of tools and equipment that I don’t have. This, I could do. Well done, sir!

  44. Brett Pinnington on July 1, 2022 at 10:28 pm

Are you able to make a box air tight I wanted to make a hand made Tabbaco box thanks

  45. Barry Lierich on July 1, 2022 at 10:28 pm

Thanks for the simple box. Note that your outside measurements after completed job is 6.5 inches high = to 6” plus 1/4” for top 1/4” for bottom.
I was working to exact outside dimensions. I cut the sides to 5.5” (6” board cut less thickness of board) plus extra length for cutting 2 ends. the ends would be 5.5” by 5.5”.

  46. Randall MacDonald on July 1, 2022 at 10:30 pm

Thank you for drawing those black lines showing where the dadoes will be. I’m a beginner and appreciate your video very much.
