Making a Tool Box With My Daughter – Hand Tool Woodworking With Kids

Making a Tool Box With My Daughter – Hand Tool Woodworking With Kids

my daughter (7 years old) made a tool box with all hand tools including the carving on the front in red oak. This was a great woodworking project to do with kids and teach about tools and how to use them. it includes how to use a hand saw, Howto use a Brace and bit, How-to use a hand plane and other hand tool skills.if a 7-year-old can carve and build this tool box so can you and your kid!

This is so awesome! Just saw this and the video on you daughter’s channel about this as well and it seems like she is interested and enjoys learning this craft, it’s so cool that this is something you can share with your daughter.

Also love the fact that you have plans for this, this seems like it could easily be modfied with higher sides and dividers to become a beverage tote, I was looking for plans to build one for a friend who likes to have BBQ’s when the weather is nice so might just use this plan and modify it for that.

Hi I think she is a little better than you at carving, she will need her own tools now to use. I think her next project should be a step stool so she can reach the bench that chair is was standing on was a bit wobbly, then look out because she will be using your bench when you want to and you may even need a new shop for yourself. it is great that kids take an interest in woodworking.

I built one like that about a million years ago. I still use it for fasteners. Come to think of it, I could likely use another one.

Keep on doing what your doing.

Great to see a young person learning… on the safety side turn the chair backwards so if she steps back she can easily step off the chair and not get her legs caught on the chair and fall back…. just a thought… great video

  49. Paul Moritoshi on February 25, 2023 at 7:08 am

    Hi James,
Please let Melody know that my 6-year old daughter, Rika, and I watched her video about the Thanksgiving sandwiches. We had a lot of fun making them, and we painted the middle slice yellow for cheese, pink for ham, green for lettuce and brown for chocolate. She has a toy cafe, so now sandwiches are on the menu.

She enjoyed making something with wood, so next, we’ll make her toolbox.

    Thank you.

    Paul and Rika Moritoshi
