McConnell Roasted For 'Nothing Campaign' In Echo Of 'Seinfeld'

As early voting in the 2022 midterm election gets underway in Texas, GOP leader Mitch McConnell is admitting that the GOP will not be running on policy this year, but rather tap into the nation’s general negative mood. MSNBC’s Ari Melber breaks down why one political party ceding all policy is a significant development and explains what this means more broadly.

McConnell’s party is escaping him. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an evil mouth-breather who only cares for his own tribe, but at least he was a logical, methodical kind of evil. Not this free-for-all, throw tropes at the wall to see what sticks kind of scumpuddle we see now.

All the GOP stands for is uncontrolled gun ownership, furthering a racially biased power structure, protecting and electing corrupt peers to positions that will make a democracy in our country the merest memory.

  5. Dave Greene on February 16, 2022 at 10:30 pm

Republicans actually *do* have a position, namely the WRONG position – on each and every issue!
This is due to the corruption that’s integral to their basic characters.

  6. Loban on February 16, 2022 at 10:32 pm

Why didn’t he just say "Whatever is opposite from what the Democrats want." That’s all modern Republicans care about anyway.

  7. gary strother on February 16, 2022 at 10:32 pm

Trump said during a rally he could shoot somebody and nothing would happen because they love him. The Republicans are saying that their voters will stay loyal and vote for them, and can’t complain no matter what they do because they voted for them blindly, without any campaign promises, or political stance to hold them to. They will tell us later when it’s too late.

  8. Bob Thornton on February 16, 2022 at 10:35 pm

What’s the point of having a platform if you’re not going to stay true to it anyway?…

  9. Allpaka on February 16, 2022 at 10:36 pm

Thanks for explaining the joke, Ari! You always got my back 😎

  10. Brian Wildner on February 16, 2022 at 10:37 pm

I bet $50 that’s the ‘no position" party takes over the House and Senate in November. Who’s up for that?

  11. Mountain Fisher on February 16, 2022 at 10:37 pm

ANY Vote For ANY Republican Is A Vote For A Corporate Nazi America, Giving MORE Tax Brakes To The Rich Making Them Richer While Us Working American PAY FOR IT ALL.

Trumps Healthcare Plan…..be ready in two weeks. 5 years later……

  13. Susan Lynch on February 16, 2022 at 10:40 pm

So, McConnell asks the American voters to buy a pig in a poke? He must think that the voters are dumb enough to fall for his shill game. Who knows, maybe he is right. God help America.

  14. JJ_ Crank on February 16, 2022 at 10:41 pm

They’re position is purely opposition. They’ve had no ideas except oppose Democrats, cut taxes for the wealthy and raise military spending

  15. Carsten Nielsen on February 16, 2022 at 10:41 pm

The only way to have a truely fair and democratic election, every wote must be worth the same. And everyone who runs for election should get the same amount of money from the goverment to get their ideas out there. No other sponsors should be aloved. Now it’s a matter of who can pay the most to get billboards, radio and television/capletime at the best hours. So it’s millionaiers and billionaiers paying to get their people in the goverment.
So therefore, sadly many policians are willing/have to degrade themselves to prostitutes to get anywhere.
    How can this be fair.

  16. Erin McIntyre on February 16, 2022 at 10:45 pm

He isn’t allowed to say. He is a puppet. The puppet masters are in control. They will never say what their platform is because the policy is everything to make them more rich than they already are are to keep the rest of us at war with each other.

Ari is saying things that *REPUBLICANS ARE PROUD OF* they are paleolibertarians – aka anarcho-capitalists. He is not "shaming" or "roasting" them. *THEY ARE AGAINST DEMOCRACY, GOVERNMENT, AND ENLIGHTENMENT PRINCIPLES*

All you have to do is read Hans Hermann Hoppe’s book Democracy: The God That Failed – to understand the lens through which FOX news and most of the Republican party now views REALITY. They are "social Darwinists" who believe in the "natural order."

THEY ARE NOT ASHAMED OF THIS IDEOLOGY. They even call neo-cons "socialists" because non-cons have governmental policies.

They BELIEVE this is the way to save our country. They call it "freedom" (from government).

  19. Jason Belfiore on February 16, 2022 at 10:46 pm

  24. Alex Mercedes on February 16, 2022 at 10:52 pm

So if you won’t tell me what your agenda is, how do I know whether I want to vote for you? What an insult to American voters.

No sales pitch about anything, and a bunch of crooks on the republican side. Emergency, everyone has to vote again!

  28. naggedd on February 16, 2022 at 10:57 pm

the republicans keep talking about midterms but haven’t articulated a single policy to run on. everything is always anti-biden with the republican party. they’re still fixated on donald trump as well. why would you want to pledge allegiance to trump the loser?

  29. Carsten Nielsen on February 16, 2022 at 10:57 pm

Trump and all of his enablers and followers, everybody who took part, or knew about the insurrection, must be held accountable. Otherwise we get the tyranny of the crazies, of the few ruthless egomaniacs

  30. David O'Leary on February 16, 2022 at 10:59 pm

Vote Republican, because we’re not Democrats. We all know what the GOP stand for and we saw it in action under Trump. Voting for a party that won’t tell you what their plans are is just plain stupid and irresponsible. They vote to block Democratic policies, which the electorate voted for and they vote against the impeachment of a criminal president. Actions speak louder than words.

  31. Carsten Nielsen on February 16, 2022 at 10:59 pm

    Trump: I have tremendous powers……
Trump: I can shoot somebody on Manhattan Avenenue and get away with it…..
That tells us everything about his mindset. Trump is the greatest danger to USA

  32. Just Charlie on February 16, 2022 at 11:00 pm

    Talk about misguided GOP.

  33. Reinier Roland on February 16, 2022 at 11:00 pm

The GOP agenda is to dismantle democracy. So, when asking about their agenda, it makes sense: it’s about "nothing". George Costanza is fairly right! 🙂

  34. Brian B. on February 16, 2022 at 11:04 pm

Hard to discuss your policies when you don’t have any… or at least none that the majority of people want.

  35. Ron Rossbach on February 16, 2022 at 11:10 pm

Ari, you’re forgetting one thing. The Republicans DO stand for something. They stand for anything that’s not Democrat. In today’s partisan environment where you’re either the good guy or the bad guy in somebody’s point of view, that seems to be enough. I’m not saying I agree with Republicans, but it’s the bed they’ve made for themselves and so far they’ve slept in it very comfortably.

  39. Bobby Wilson Fun Faith Family Music on February 16, 2022 at 11:13 pm

Thank you for the report. After the do-nothing Republician Party has Voted against Americans Voting Rights, Americans will vote no to them. Why are the Republicans so against democracy? Time is up for the GOP Republican Party. Americans know now what the Republican Party stands for, Voter Suppression the #1 thing they have championed throughout the nation, kudos

Mitch needs to go away, he’s worthless

  45. Stephen Gloor on February 16, 2022 at 11:21 pm

Policies are gone now. The problem with them is that for normal voter who votes one side because they have always done it a bad policy might actually make them think which is bad thing. They need the voters to just turn up and tick the right box. It’s the same here in Australia. Last election the Labor party lost because they made the sad mistake of having policies, whereas the winning conservatives had nothing. They just used a personal attack campaign on the Labor leader and Murdoch, through his papers, spread outright lies. This year nobody has any policies and Labor are so afraid of losing they are now agreeing anything the conservatives say for fear of being wedged.
