Mini Brass Plane Set 3 pc || Harbor Freight Review
Mini Brass Plane Set 3 pc || Harbor Freight Review
Harbor Freights mini brass plane set 3pc review and testing. I recently picked up this mini brass plane set aka micro planes from harbor freight and decided to try them out. Harbor freight sells this item for around $12.00 and this mini brass plane set is worth about that much. I was ready to give a bad review of the 3pc mini brass plane set made by Windsor and sold at harbor freight after only trying to tune and use the bullnose/chisel plane. Then I tried out one more without doing ANYTHING to sharpen or tune it. The results were shocking to me. So take a look at me using harbor freights mini brass plane set to plane down a piece of scrap cedar. Can these micro wood planes actually plane wood? Do these Harbor Freight mini brass planes belong in a woodworking shop? The answers will be revealed in my review of Harbor Freights (Windsor designs) mini brass plane set.

Don’t you have the blade upside down in the first one? And how can you return something you’ve worked on and reshaped?
Put the blade in the scraper one like you would a regular planer at that little slant and it works like a charm
I was at harbor freight today and bought that set. I planned on getting a cordless weed trimmer, but found out I could get a great deal on one, but then noticed I’d have to pay 59.00 for trimmer and then buy a $30 charger and $60 for a battery. No thanks! So ended up buying some general stuff I needed along with planers. I’m a sucker for any tools made of brass and wood. I’ve just tested them on random stuff and found they work as well as I expected or better for price. I enjoyed your video and watched to try and figure out what the one with the blade at 90 degrees. Still not sure. I think its sort of a plain scraper.
I got those same plans from harbor freight and they came with all the blades in them and I use them every once in a while

My full width one came with a slanted tip like a whiteboard marker, like at least 10° off from square. There is so much play in the slot that I was able to slant it enough to make up the difference
I know…buy 3 or 4 sets, choose and pick all parts to make three nice ones (kinda like Tuco at the gun shop lol) and return the rest!!
Great video thanks brother. Like the review. I really like the tool haul from the pawnshop. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother. Ye I’m not feeling good today but life goes on. Keep the videos coming brother
Just picked up an open box of these that was missing the bull-nose for like $8. Just upon first examination it seems like the sharpening angle on the blades could be improved quite a bit. Question might be … will the steel hold an edge when you get the angles optimal? Anyway, for $13 they are so cute … how can a true blue woodworker pass that up? My 19 yr. old daughter was immediately curious (because they are cute and don’t appear too intimidating). So, if it gets her into the workshop to help me with some projects then it was $8 well spent …
Great review, thanks
Use the grinder to cut open the multi tool!
Nice review video. Just goes to show…. sometimes cheap crap turns to gold.
You got some cute little curls there…
Man, I was ready to jump all over you at the beginning of this review and ask what you was smoking. Glad I watched until the end first. I got that same set a few years ago, with all the blades, and they have become my favorite planes to use. Well, the one that works like a regular plane anyway. I use it mainly for small projects, that’s what they’re meant for. I am happy with how they work for me. Like you I had to put an edge on them first but they do a nice job. I found your video because I was trying to find out if I was using the bull nosed plane right since I hadn’t really tried it before. And for $12 for the set, hell, I can’t beat that. Thanks for the review.
I build cigar box guitars and they work great on the finger boards. More fathers could do a good service to teach little ladies about shop tools and how to safely use them! Good man.
the only reason you buy it is for good looking or for keychain 😀
One curiosity–are they made of leaded brass? If so I would think that would be a bad feature of them, as with sweaty hands, etc, it could leach and eventually end up in a person’s body.
I also have the same set😀😀😀 I used it as a display🤣🤣🤣 nice vid thank you
Watched the video after i bought them. Bad mistake
Picked these up today, they’re awfully nice for being from HF. I used a coupon and got em for about $8. They need some tuning up and flattening, and they probably won’t see a ton of use in my shop. But hey, if nothing else they’re cheap and neat.
Most people don’t like the because they don’t understand them. While usually don’t need the scraper (nice when I do need it), I use the other two qite a bit on making cabinets and boxes for detail work. They take some work and tuning up front but are better than most of what I’ve seen from HF. Woodcraft sells one like this for $31 each. GOOD DEAL FROM HF.
I ate Subway in my truck earlier now I got to poop :/
It’s only 5$ and not. Bad tool
I use all three very often. I have had no problem with them and they are good for very fine work on small or narrow surfaces or where i want to hold the object in one hand and use the mini planes in the other hand.
