Miter Saw Station // Woodworking How To | I Like To Make Stuff

See how I made a simple miter saw station!

In my old shop, I never really had room for a proper miter station. I dealt with it but also ways to move things out of the way to cut an 8′ piece of material and come up with creative (and some times dangerous) stop block situations. In the new shop, I have plenty of space, so it was time to make a dedicated place to use the miter saw. I didn’t want to go overboard with storage or complexity and wanted it to still be relatively compact. I also had 2 days to build it in between projects, so it had to be simple. The only real requirements for me were that it had to be cheap, easy, fast and it needed a sliding stop block system. I think I hit all of those points while still getting a solid work surface that has PLENTY of space for future improvement in the form of storage. There is space above and below to add storage and the simply dust collection ports help keep the whole area clean.

What kind of dust extraction do you have for those ports?

  2. calebgutierrez on May 23, 2022 at 7:45 pm

That’s bad ass. I’m totally going to use this as a guide for my mitre station. Thank you for this.

  3. ES Schuele on May 23, 2022 at 7:47 pm

This is the best “simple” miter saw station I’ve seen. I just might need to do the same creation. Great vid

  8. Tom Rafter on May 23, 2022 at 7:57 pm

Don’t charge for your plans. That’s lame. Make money in a different way.

  9. tom schmertz on May 23, 2022 at 7:58 pm

Hi – question for you – from start to finish how long did the whole project take? thanks

  10. Dus Bus on May 23, 2022 at 7:58 pm

instead of a fence and a T track on the fence for the stop block why not just T track on the table top with the stop block on the table?

  11. Ali Sa’ah Dat on May 23, 2022 at 7:58 pm

Hello Bob, what size of wood did you use before cutting, and what sizes did you cut them to?

  12. Derk Hedemann on May 23, 2022 at 7:59 pm

this saw station is nice enough, what matters is that it is functional and has room to store some underneath it too

  13. jeremy wells on May 23, 2022 at 7:59 pm

This is far from bare bones… lol Great build

  14. Salvo calà on May 23, 2022 at 8:00 pm

Which model of dewalt miter saw Is???

  15. Zacchary Smith on May 23, 2022 at 8:02 pm

Great video, good ideas for a beginner/expandable miter table. My only gripe is the word you said repeatedly at the end…"ruler". As my shop teacher used to go off about, "Stalin was a ruler, Hitler was a ruler, that is a scale!" Or measuring tape would also be acceptable. Just my peeve, but again, good job on a simple, sturdy table with dust collection. I also noticed that you didn’t lay the saw for 45° cuts. I guess if you don’t use your miter saw for miter work, only for straight cuts that is fine. I watched someone who held the face of the box with magnets to make it easily removable.

Not deep enough to fit my DWS779 … of course I didn’t find that out till AFTER it was assembled. Not a hard fix, but alas, Murphy got me.

  17. Milan Dzunda on May 23, 2022 at 8:05 pm

This is perfect, simple yet effective build, exactly what i was looking for. Will build myself something similar to this! Thanks

  18. Pablo Mit on May 23, 2022 at 8:05 pm

Thank you! Great and very straight to the point! All the best from Russia!

  19. feihong005 on May 23, 2022 at 8:05 pm

The shop and the amount of money for just doing it in the beginning as a hobby. Is insane. Nice job

  20. Jason Appassamy on May 23, 2022 at 8:05 pm

Hi what is the model of the mitre saw?

  21. Darren Masom on May 23, 2022 at 8:06 pm

    Easy

  22. Pákozdi Attila on May 23, 2022 at 8:06 pm

    Thanks Man!
Simple, great and easy to use.
    That’s for me… 🙂
    Absolutely good idea!

  23. Anti Latte on May 23, 2022 at 8:08 pm

You already have a flat work station for your mitre saw to make those accurate cuts, defeating the need for a mitre saw bench. Most people making a mitre saw bench don’t already have one obviously.

  24. mespenschied on May 23, 2022 at 8:10 pm

Great job i need to make one as well but i also want to addy a router table into it as well. Thoughts??

  25. I Like To Make Stuff on May 23, 2022 at 8:12 pm

This design doesn’t really take into account a compound miter cut. It’s not something I do often, so I didn’t build it in. If you need that, it’s just a matter of enlarging the center section a bit and changing the shroud to allow for that motion.

  26. ralph122 on May 23, 2022 at 8:13 pm

i love how you work : like a NORMAL PERSON

  27. jacek ringwelski on May 23, 2022 at 8:13 pm

When you screw in your pocket screws from the inside, angled towards the edge of the board you are screwing into you make it weaker. Just FYI

  28. Hey Stripes on May 23, 2022 at 8:13 pm

is there a reason that you used pocket screws for the two side tables, but just butt screws for the centre mitre table section?

  29. Libertyville Guy on May 23, 2022 at 8:14 pm

    Excellent. Very functional, thank you.

  30. Kelly cato on May 23, 2022 at 8:15 pm

  33. Darren Masom on May 23, 2022 at 8:18 pm

    Just perfect lumber

  34. Michael Mason - LYTOMIZE Woodshop on May 23, 2022 at 8:19 pm

  35. Carl Calderon on May 23, 2022 at 8:21 pm

Perfect solution for my needs! Saw your video today and wondering if there’s a link somewhere for plans? Thanks

  36. eric byrd on May 23, 2022 at 8:21 pm

I said the same thing 🤣🤣🤣

  37. Gary on May 23, 2022 at 8:23 pm

A question: I’m modeling my build off of this design using some kitchen cabinets as the left/right bases. If you had the space, would you have made one side of the stand longer, say to trim 6′ finish lengths? I’m debating this as I have the space (for now) , or will I seldom use this long length and maybe better off putting the space to other use? Thanks!!

  38. Paul Brookens on May 23, 2022 at 8:24 pm

Do you have measurements for height?

  39. Edbaccaswg on May 23, 2022 at 8:26 pm

How tall are the two main boxes?

  40. Numerous Actuary on May 23, 2022 at 8:26 pm

Looks like you forgot something at 7:47 – hate when that happens!

  41. Samuel Velez on May 23, 2022 at 8:32 pm

It doesn’t have to be pretty as long it’ s functional

  42. Abu Ahmed on May 23, 2022 at 8:33 pm

Man I don’t know what the hell this video is about it was not a tutorial you went way too fast and nothing made sense…

  43. Alba_Phenom on May 23, 2022 at 8:33 pm

Looks great, the fences with the runner and stop blacks are a great idea.
