Thanks for the idiots guide to installing a vise – I needed it!
Nice video’ ver.y helpful. Thanks
Overall this is the cleanest and no-non-sense install I have seen. I think if you extends the jaw liner half an inch longer, then you could add another small piece of stick and hide the back jaw completely. But that is just preference. Some people don’t mind to reveal the back jaw on the side a bit.
didn’t you want to use the vice dog ?

Suggestion: mute or diminish the volume in the video when drilling. It’s pretty noxious noise level.
Why go through all the hassle you had fitting the back plate, if you had fitted it first you would have been able to screw through the front of the vice then fit the wood plate on the front.
Great video, just the one that I needed!
Not bad. I would have made the back face flush with bench edge, and the front face insert much wider.
It’s a great vise!
Best video I’ve seen so far for this type of vice, and I have cataloged about 12 videos. What was really important to me was when you specified the "throat depth" of the vise. It was the first time I heard that term, and it is exactly what you need to know. The other dimension I’d like to know is the "reach" of the horizontal part of the "L" that goes under the bench. The video clearly shows how everything goes together.
10:21 Curiosity question if I may. At the time frame, why did you choose to put such large bolts in the wooden plates on the jaws? Since the force applied is going to be _squeezing_ the jaws together then the wooden plates would be held in place by that _squeezing_ force. Ergo, small screws would have been adequate to hold the wooden plates in place. I was watching Bobs Wood Stuff channel and he used some small magnets to hold the wooden plates on. It made it simple for him to quickly change the plates for other ones he wanted to use. As I said, this is a curiosity question (not being critical) as I wish to expand my very limited knowledge about this subject. Ta! 😀 Also noticed that your dressed 4" x 2" was actually that. Where I live a 4 x 2 when dressed actually measures 3½" x 1¾". Makes life interesting when getting pieces to fit so it depends on whether you get dresses or undressed timber. Nice vice…. *very* envious. 😡 Thanks for the video. 👍
