Perfect Edges Jointer on the Table Saw – Easy To Make!
Perfect Edges Jointer on the Table Saw – Easy To Make!
Yet another edge sanding solution for the cash-strapped home woodworker. Make it from scrap plywood and a low cost sanding belt. The sanding belt is 21″ x 3″ and fits on a ~6-5/8″ wheel.
The only tricky part is being patient and getting the fit perfect on the wheel. Everything else is simple, but first CHECK to make sure it will fit on your saw! Mine is homemade and can be modified, but you might not want to do that.

that is so neat, you actually also turned your table saw into a potential belt grinder 🙂
Brill, wonderful
Are your edges ok? Yes, but perfect? I don’t think so, you know not even in a cnc machine you can’t make them perfect.
Intelligence shared resulting in the enjoyment of playing with and building theoretical tools at little or next to no cost that could work well with persistence and much patience. Nice work.
Bro your fucking amazing, you should patent and sell metal wheel versions
How do you account for the fact that the side past the sanding drum needs the table to be higher than the feed side like a jointer? I noticed it looked like you didn’t have anything but your edges still came out straight, could you elaborate?
so in other words, you have just invented a sanding wheel. BRILLIANT……the world will be a in awe
Awesome as ever a very clever and practical man who will never stay stuck
you my friend, are a genius! some of these things that you make are so impressive! i really love your tool that you take the nut of the saw blade off. to make the cog out of wood is just fantastic! well done!!!
I am just so grateful that you are in the world. Unbelievable self made utopian workshop! You are just…brilliant!
For your insight John, I subscribed the second I saw many "makeshift" items. Please don’t interpret that as poor quality or anything other than me seeing this guy makes his own stuff very functionally and I can learn! We often forget commercially made items were once made at home.
3:41 this laugh at your own oversight is such a relatable laugh for any hobbyists
Dude, you are a fucking genius
This is definitely the minimum viable jointer. Love it 🪵♥️
Very cool. 👌🏼 Keep it up
watching how close your hands get to the blades on these videos always gives me the chills
how could i modify your build using a dado stack instead of building custom sanding wheel?
Would this work with a dado stack?
Very creative and awesome craftsmanship. But I’d be afraid of the disc exploding.
How did u make that router lift
that sounds like a craftsman 1.5 hp router
So, could you not use a dado blade in the tablesaw as a jointer? I never thought of that before!
Brilliant John.
Orrrrrrrr…..you could buy a jointer from Craig’s list and call it a day.
Is there a problem with snipe at the end of the cut? It seems to me that you would need to have the offset like you do with a jointer once you are behind the disc.
Very clever….
Much less terrifying than a jointer. Even if it doesn’t actually replace one
I upgraded my tablesaw from an old Ryobi contractor to a a mich nicer one recently. Considered selling the Ryobi to offset the cost, but the amount of get for it really wasn’t worth even the small amount of effort. I considered giving it away to someone starting out, but that tablesaw was so bad and needed so many fine adjustments, so often, i didn’t want to cause someone who was just starting out to hate the process of woodworking before they even got into it.
So I started to brainstorm what I could do with it, to sort of "upcycle" it (I hate that phrase, but it works. I came up with a few ideas, and though I googled a bunch, I haven’t found any that seemed worth the effort.
This, however, is such a great idea, will save so much money having to not invest in a jointer. The way you make it seems so simple and satisfying. I can’t wait to get this project underway right away.
I love how literally everything in his shop is home made, including the entirety of the table saw casing. Blows my mind, and is inspiring for new ideas. Also the arbor wrench thing is super cool.
i love this – great idea!
Wow. This guy really comes up with them.
Brilliant
You are a really smart guy. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks!
I had an extra …. table saw, from a junk buy at a garage sale, It was an old sears table saw, almost worthless. I recreated the above build with some less sexy modifications. It is now my surface sanding jointers after planning and jointing wood. It works perfect, I do not plan to use it for anything but. I am using belts I have to cut down, and gluing on, I should have made more wheels, but I only have one grit 180, on hand. I do use an eraser to clean the belt often, so all works perfect for me.
Another great idea John!!!! Thank You!!!! 👍💡😎🤘
Cool. But why not just plane the cherry?

When it comes out perfect: this has to be made perfect.
When it doesn’t come out perfect:
This doesn’t have to be perfect.
Your great great great great grandfather must’ve been Fred Flinstone. There’s nothing you can’t figure out!
Clever 😁
Just bought a circular saw and a router to start projects. Already looking into adding more tools so I can start making things. It’s where I’m at in life and I’m finding therapy in it lol
Oh yes, SO easy…..
Now this is woodworking. Homemade clamps? This dude is awesome
Seems cool, poor-man’s diy jointer. I don’t understand, though, about where the sanding wheel and fence meet in the corner. Is there a shallow crescent carved (sanded) from below into the fence to accept the sanding wheel beyond the fence face plain?
Cool channel, I now subscribe, thank you for sharing your ideas and methods. Also, super cool nut quick-threader.
تتمنيخو بينا برك.
Ok … now I am going to go find the video where you build the offset ladder gear nut driver dealy.
Familiar😸
"When I was designing and building PROJECT-A, I spent hours making sure these parts were just right. Cutting, finishing and installing PART-X took me half a day.
NOW I’m working on PROJECT-B and PART-X is in the way……"
"HEY! Pass me that HATCHET!!"
Makes you wonder why someone isn’t marketing a blade like this. If dado stacks can work, why not a narrow planing blade?
cool
👍
