I ordered the shop apron, can’t wait for it to arrive

  2. jeffoff on May 22, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Very helpful. I don’t know why the router has been so intimidating but I finally picked one up last year. I’ve only used it a couple of times but I plan to remedy that.

All good except you do run with a treadmill, not against it haha

I just want to say that you solved a problem I have. I am making a sheet pan drawer with 1/4" dividers in it. So, I need to route groves into the drawer. But, I did not know how I was going to get an accurate cut for the center groves. In comes the jig you showed how to make. Thank you. Also, I am going to be adding the pice to my wouter guide as well because I ran into that issue, too. Thank you for your great advice! I love your content! And look forward to buying one of your aprons as soon as I can afford the extra expense!

  7. Omniescent on May 22, 2022 at 7:48 pm

Would a 1/4" be okay for just doing flush trim and round overs?

  8. Amateur To Ace Astro on May 22, 2022 at 7:51 pm

Im new to woodworking and this was such a helpful video! Thanks so much!

  9. Mario Silva on May 22, 2022 at 7:51 pm

Is that router works with 1/4 & 1/2 bits
    Or I need both routers?
    Thanks!

  10. morris shankle on May 22, 2022 at 7:54 pm

I’m new at routers I need a bit one that will punch as deep as possible what would be the best I could get just a straight down cut. A little bit of bite at a time with uneven wood ? I purchased the DWS618

  11. Xing He on May 22, 2022 at 7:55 pm

Outstanding video. I’ll be referring to it often as I learn. I’m just beginning. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

  12. DeRosa Engineering on May 22, 2022 at 7:55 pm

Great video very informative. The only thing you need now is a Musclechuck for that router to make changing bits a breeze.

  13. Silver Shine on May 22, 2022 at 7:59 pm

wait if router tables spin counter clockwise…then why are most people pushing their workpiece in through the right?

  14. ClemPi123123 on May 22, 2022 at 7:59 pm

    Dear Jonathan,
thank you very much for your very informing videos. I am enjoying them quiet a lot.
Could you or your community answer me one simple question: If i am edging my cutting board i am going clockwise, correct ? If i cut some juice grooves, i am going counter clockwise, correct? I just messed up a board and i dont wanne do the same mistake twice (the boards before that were fine, just luck ? ) Thx a lot !

Great video. Gave me a little more confidence to try more with the router. I’m laboring over 3/4" wide dado grooves right now and not sure how I want to do the jig.. I like simple so may try your 90 degree technique

Newborn DIY’er here. These 101 type vids are priceless, and I’ll be seeing what I can get from your links and store to support you (when I know what I actually need).

  21. Jeff C on May 22, 2022 at 8:06 pm

I have a related question and wondering if anyone can help. I am brand new to woodworking and I’ve been obsessing over whether I should buy a 8-1/4 in. or 10 in. table saw. One of the main reasons I’ve been leaning towards the 10" is because only the 10 in. accepts dado blades. Do I need dado blades if I can use a router instead? Just wondering if ya’ll use a table saw or a router for dados. I’m pretty sure I will be making those kinds of cuts based on the type of projects I want to work on. Also, in general, is an 8-1/4" sufficient? The DeWALT happens to be $100 off right now.

  22. K R on May 22, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Got me worried about that deflection in the jessEm lift and DeWalt router I just got this setup.

  23. Charles Fick on May 22, 2022 at 8:07 pm

If you close up the fence, how does the router cut if the blade isn’t exposed? That doesn’t make any sense, or am I missing something??

  24. Jessie Diebert on May 22, 2022 at 8:07 pm

My understanding of needing more power in a router also has to do with the center of mass of the bit you are using. A small spiral cutting bit has a significantly lower center of mass then a large diameter slot cutting bit. Because of this the router requires a lot more power to spin the bit and maintain that speed once cutting.

  25. Don Bradway on May 22, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Is there a reason you didn’t mention using a starter pin on a router table if you can’t use the fence?

  26. Eugene Kandinsky on May 22, 2022 at 8:11 pm

Most hobbyist woodworkers (myself included): "I’m not going to buy this expensive tool with all the extra features, it’s just too much. Instead I’m going to spend the same money on building my own jigs and modifications that my cheaper tool doesn’t have" 😅

Im new to wood working,j want to make a router table, but all the ones I see been made are for the palm routers,I have a hitachi big 2 handled machine,is this suitable to attach to homemade table?

I am so glad i found your channel. Love the way you explain and teach for newbies like myself. Thanks!

  31. Orrin Kelso on May 22, 2022 at 8:15 pm

Sorry, not always. I used to do miles of cove bit routing each month, and we always used a climbing bit method. If we didn’t, we would always get chip out which would ruin the work piece. Never chipped out using a climb cut. It was harder to control but did not chip out.

Keep an eye out for discounts on bits too, sometimes there is a product lineup change or other reason for the store to be clearing carbide sets at big discounts. Just recently got a $200 set 50% off – quality coated carbide, not garbage. Good luck out there friends!

Of course size matters! Nobody wants a small glass of wine!

Did you know there are two classes of woodworking projects?
Yep Wine project and Beer projects.
Wine if refined and elegant while beer is stout! (Don’t even think of IPA – Ikea pale ales!) 😉

I love my flush cut bit from Bits and Bits. Bought it two years ago at your recommendation and It’s still going strong.

Fantastic useful info… I always have my right hand and now know what to do with it.
    – I just received a package from Bits and Bits…exciting.
    – a friends wife saw me in “your” shop apron, and is now getting one for her husband.
