I use my tile saw thats like a table saw in that its flat and using water eliminates the carbide dust.
How do you deal with blades that have teeth that angle first to one side then the other on the next tooth?
Yup, carbide dust is pretty carcinogenic. We have a specific room at the machine shop where I work for grinding carbide cutters and endmills. It’s set up with negative pressure and some pretty beefy high flow air filters.
That’s for an industrial scale operation though. If you’re just touching up a saw blade at home, a half face respirator and a fan blowing dust out the door is plenty.
Where did you source the sharpening blade?
Great video, thanks. However I don’t see a link to the diamond blade you’re using.
Don’t you need to sharpen the tops of the teeth as well?
👍💪.

the angle of all the teeth of the saw is not 90 degrees. There are +6, -6 ones. How
Hi John, you can improve it with a lower stop, attaching a magnet to move the blade up and over the stop. This way you have only 1 moving piece. Way faster and safer, due to not lifting your hands from the blade.
Интересная идея
Why would you sharpen a brand new blade
Do you have a brand of saw blade that you would recommend or one that you mostly use? I see the ones at Home Depot are for the most part around $50 but then I see some at Lee Velley for $100+ Maybe that would be a good video topic on here or one of your other channels
What are you doing to fight the carbide dust? It ruins machines in the surrounding area and it’s absolutely horrible for your lungs
How many blades can you sharpen with the 1 diamond blade?
Пожалуй, это одна из лучших и практичных идей по части самоделок для заточки дисков. При этом можно менять угол заточки передней грани. Очень легко доработать для заточки фрез. Спасибо за идею.
John, this blade is a diamond blade. Looks very similar to my wet saw blade. I think I could utilize your jig with my wet saw.
Very sweet idea. Think I’d use a smaller diamond wheel to be able to get into smaller gullets without nicking them.
Clever

Muy buena herramienta. De las mejores ideas hasta ahora. Gracias!
Thanks John! My blades are piling up!
Super great!
Scary!!!
Certainly gives you a nice, clean, burn free finish cut.
A quality sharpening service can replace broken teeth and will split the sharpening between the face and the top. This assures proper concentricity and maximizes life of the blade. A lot of sharpening service will only sharpen the face because keeping proper geometry on a blade such as an ATB is no easy task. Also there is relief angles on the sides of the teeth that will benefit from a cleaning, that 10" blade is in need of a good cleaning.
Impressive! I wish I was this much of a craftsman.
sir, can i ask u ?? What kind of sharpener do you use on the table saw ???
This is so perfect. Thanks.
Don’t use this with a SawStop. You will trigger the brake mechanism.
Wouldn’t the index be better on the side that has already been sharpened ? I would think that would keep it more uniform or am I missing something ?
to b honest i have noticed the saw blade cover sometimes touches the wood this is NOT good ?
This is brilliant 👍 thanks for sharing I’ll be looking at using this method. Love your set up jig
Does it kick back ?
Do you need to flip the blade over to sharpen each tooth equally?
Its a good idea. I use a pillsr drill and jig.
Always a pleasure and learning experience to watch you work.
You could put like a .005 feeler gauge in the stop to set the depth and then remove it to evenly take that amount off. May not matter though.
Can you give an update on the long term performance of the sharpened blades? Do the carbide tips get softer due to the heat caused by the grinding?
I like your ten cent washer.
😂давно так не смеялся👍

How do you adjust for the different angles of the teeth face? Such as ATB blades.
The voice seems like the exact same narrator for a popular food recipe YouTube channel? Does anyone agree?
I’m a contractor. I need to start sharpening my blades. I started charging for time and materials. I throw the cost of blades in now also so I don’t worry about sharpening so much
Sharpening blades on the table saw is brilliant but why not allow the indexing block to pivot (spring load it) so you can turn the blade counterclockwise. As you do so, the blade will push the pivoting index block out of the way until you turn it far enough for the tooth to clear — then it snaps back into place and you’re ready to grind the next tooth. Another good idea would be an adjustable stop hanging off the back of the jig that would stop at the front edge of the table so you never have to worry about pushing the jig too far forward.
Don’t roll the tips of the tooth, it will defeat the purpose of sharpening
Doesn’t this method grind the ATB teeth flat?
Nice shirt – Needs more cowbell!
Muito bem gostei 👍
Great concept. Thumbs up!
