Sharpening Jig for Chisels and Hand Planes // Honing guide
Sharpening Jig for Chisels and Hand Planes // Honing guide
I needed a stable way for sharpening my chisels and hand plane blades so I built this small jig (honing guide) which basically consists of two pieces of wood that clamp the irons, with wheels underneath.
I used a block of cherry and two big bolts with nuts for tighten everything and a piece of leather inside to increase the grip.

Woodprix has a lot of designs to choose from.
Aren’t those wheels a bit far apart to fit on a grinding stone?
Or even if you’re using sandpaper, wouldn’t it have to be needlessly wide, and screw up the edge if one of the wheels goes off the sandpaper?
Or do you just keep the wheels off the stone/sandpaper altogether?
6:14 You could just sharpen a piece of metal tube and punch out the hole! Much quicker. Nice design, I’ll be copying it! Stay safe!
Genial.
Great video and project.
Unfortunately this tool has the same problem as the Stanley honing guide. The risk of the slantwise position of the chisel or plane iron makes it less usefull.
Nicely done, your craftsmanship is impressive.
nice jig where did you get the rollers
I appreciate the quality of your work and the end product. Much simpler than many I’ve seen on YT. Leaving out the background sound track would make it an even more enjoyable video. A suggestion only. To me, repetitive sounds like you included a distraction AND I can turn off the audio myself. When there is no narration in any part of the video, a screen note saying so would be a nice touch.
Blessings to you, all those you love and to all who love you.

Questo è molto interessante, mi servirebbe proprio. Complimenti ✌️🌱
Good ideas! 👍👍
Way to slow brother.
I really like this jig. I have been looking for something like this. Nice job!
Bravo complimenti anche io ho lo stesso problema e, se permetti copio ciò che hai costruito. ti ringrazio tanto. IL nome della colla per incollare i dadi al legno?
I love it.. thanks
What a nice voice🤗. And the thing is simple, I’ll do the same
very nice job. What technique do you use to sharpen your planer blades and chisels?
I’m going to make one of these but with a slight modification. It would be stronger if it had 2 holes drilled completely through the lower piece and then had 2 bolts epoxied in place instead of the nuts. That would mean you could use wing-nuts to clamp the blade in place.
Nice video. Can you share the link to buy the rollers please? Thanks.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
what are the mini wheels called? And where can you get them? Thanks
Really nice, but i wouldn’t trust that glue, why You didnt put nut from other side(under the wheels)? And drill a screw sized hole? You wouldn’t even need that glue. And wheels woud hide the nuts. 🙂
Nice, simple design. Thanks for the video
